AU where Dumbledore’s Army uses the Chamber of Secrets instead of the Room of Requirement

Ultimate security as Harry is the only one capable of opening it. 

Myrtle proudly spending her time acting as a guard/lookout. 

Later, Harry diligently teaching Ron, Hermione, and a few choice others, like Neville, how to mimic parseltongue so that they can open it too. 

Muggleborns experiencing vicious satisfaction that they’re using this chamber as a place of education and defense, reclaiming the very space Slytherin built to rid the school of their presence. 

Hermione methodically dismantling the basilisk’s corpse, covertly selling the priceless ingredients to potion masters, using the funds to continue their work - buying books and battle robes and new wands for those who can’t afford it. 

(Hermione saving a portion of those ingredients for her own research, straightening in triumph when she learns what basilisk venom does to horcruxes, knowing she has vials of it hidden up in her room). 

Harry reverently adding the Chamber of Secrets to the Marauder’s Map, proudly continuing his family’s work and reveling in the difference they’re making. 

These students - these kids - choosing to train in a dark, horrifying place that was never meant for them. Learning spells amongst shadows, growing stronger in inches of murky water, the smell of a decomposing corpse in their noses, memories of all that had happened here haunting them. They know this is what war is really like and it helps to push them forward.

The houses as things I've overheard

Gryffindor: "Why are you laying on the floor?" "Cause I can't do random shit and scream 'for the vine!' anymore."

Ravenclaw: "That's stupid. Wait actually no that's brilliant, get the watermelon."

Hufflepuff: "Unicorns and Deadpool are my two heroes. I just spotted a shirt containing both. fUcK mE uP."

Slytherin: "Soccer practice was great! I rammed into a racist dude and he couldn't play. No one chastised me."

so i have a headcanon that Remus Lupin was the mastermind of all the pranks the Marauders did. I mean who would suspect mild mannered Remus to come up with the most insane prank ideas? No one that’s who.

Peter was the scout. He always had an easier time fading in the background, gathering information about the spot where they would place the prank, the people they targeted etc.(i mean seriously the man became a spy for the Dark Lord and no one suspected him, not one person that’s something) It got even easier after they became Animagi.

James and Sirius were the power behind the prank James with transfiguration and Sirius with charms(he could alter spells like nobody’s business with a bit of time to work out the kinks). They also came up with the best cover stories or provide diversions when they needed to distract the teachers. They sometimes chose their targets when someone pissed them off but Remus? 

Remus was the brain. He chose their targets and decided when and how they would strike. James and Sirius were divas they wanted the attention, they wanted the school to know they were behind the prank but when Remus was behind them no one could figure who did it(one time they managed to convince the teachers and the school that a group of Slytherins were behind the prank and did it so masterfully that even the Slytherins were convinced they made the prank and then forgot about it) Also he brewed the potions when they needed them mainly because while James and Sirius could brew a decent potion while Peter was a disaster, they didn’t have the same patience and talent with them.

McGonagall made him prefect in the hope that he could rein in James and Sirius but she didn’t realize that it was usually James and Sirius who needed to rein in Remus.

Years later when Teddy Lupin comes to Hogwarts and is sorted into Hufflepuff she thinks that she dodged a bullet until one morning the Great Hall is filled with kittens and she realizes with dawning horror that she made a great mistake (teddy, after all, is the son of a marauder and a woman who, for one week, came to class with the face of the professor who was teaching the class, and the less said about his godfather the better) 

(when James Sirius is born she puts her head in her hands and decides that she will retire the day he gets his letter (she doesn’t)
