The fourth episode of Sing “Yesterday” for Me gave us an in-depth exploration of the complex relationship Shinako, Rou, & Rou’s deceased older brother share.
Death is hard, but it’s something we inevitably face in this life. All of us deal with it differently, whether that’s because of the person involved, or how we react to the idea there’s someone we’ll never see again. In harsh terms, you accept that the person’s gone and move on, or you cling to something you’ll never get back. That brings us back to this show, while Rou accepted the passing, partially out of his jealousy that’s understandable as someone with a sibling, Shinako didn’t. As a result, there’s a strong rift between the two, one a woman who only sees her lost love, the other a young man who wishes she’d look at him for once. This episode appears to bring a certain acceptance to the situation, whether that’s Shinako facing the reality she has to move on, or Rou knowing that he has to let her face this alone. Time heals all wounds, but only if you’re willing to let it.
Every episode of this series is tough - and like every one so far this hits home. Loss is relatable, having a sibling that always gets the attention is relatable, the whole thing is just, it’s another part of life wrapped in a half hour & it hurts a little.
