As of April 6, 2020, this Tumblr is on permanent hiatus. I have moved my online activity to my Pillowfort. Feel free to contact/follow me there, if you like. This thing is a side-Simblr for Sims 3 pics and stuff, to keep it off my main, Sims-2-only Simblr.
Don't wanna be here? Send us removal request.

Mooooving!
So….I decided to start a new, separate Tumblr account. It be here. There’s exactly one post on it right now. I did this because I want a separate TS3-related dashboard instead of mashing in TS3 stuff with all the TS2 stuff because that’s overloading my poor old brain. Basically, it’s a fresh start without really being a fresh start.
Why does this matter to anyone but me? Well, if you follow me on my current TS3-dedicated sideblog and want to continue to do so, you should probably unfollow that sideblog (which may or may not get deleted; I haven’t decided) and go follow the new main blog instead. I will likely follow back anyone who posts TS3 content. And if you follow me on my current main blog and want to continue following me for whatever reason, I’ll be active on the new blog, not so much on the old one. Well, maybe “active” isn’t really the right word at this point, but I’ll be more active on the new blog than I will be on the current main blog. So if you want to keep keeping up with me and don’t mind TS3 stuff, that’s the place to do it.
The new blog’ll be TS3-focused, but I’ll probably post non-Sims-related nonsense on there on occasion, too. (I always tag such stuff “non sims,” though, so you can easily block it if you don’t wanna see my nonsense.) I’ll also be sharing some stuff I’ve made, and there’ll be gameplay pics, and all the other usual crap for a Simblr, once I get it all up and running.

J'adore Champs les Sims
There is a disturbingly large part of me that wants to completely revamp and rebuild Champs les Sims because 1) I rather often move Sims there permanently, via Traveler, to be layabout drunkards upstanding winemakers, and 2) I hate the weird layouts of many of the houses, especially the really sprawly ones near the town center. Also, I love French provincial style architecture.
On the other hand, I don’t love building in TS3 all that much. And I’d really like to restructure the lot layout and get rid of some large lots and replace them with multiple smaller ones, but I can’t get CAW to run, or at least I couldn’t on my old machine. I suspect it’s because I had TS3 installed weirdly on that machine, so it might not be an issue on this new machine, but...Even if I got it to run, I have no clue how to use it, and I’ve heard that it has a steep learning curve. (Not that I’m afraid of that at all, but I’d like to finish this potential project before I die, if I start it at all!)
But I still want to do it. Like, a lot. Can you even mess with the EA worlds in CAW? There must be a way. I know there’s a custom empty CLS, but I want to edit the default vacation one more than I want to have a standalone world. Or maybe I can default-replace the EA CLS with the custom one? I know I’ve seen default replacements for the University world, so it must be possible. There’s a thought! Hmmmm....

Boredom and insomnia struck today (*cough*actually yesterday*cough* Sleep is for the weak!), so I decided to...make a lighting mod????
Well, not really. It’s more like I made a mod collage, snipping out bits I liked from several existing lighting mods and then mooshing the bits together into a new one. (Thanks to @technicallyswagpizza for the tutes! They are super-awesome and super-helpful and not super-confusing!)
The result with just the lighting mod wasn’t exactly what I wanted so I will probably tinker endlessly with it, but combined with some NVIDIA settings (which are doing most of the heavy lifting, honestly) and exactly two Reshade shaders, which just desaturate and sharpen the image a bit...I’m pretty happy with the results. Especially since I can keep it all on for gameplay. It averages about 40-50 FPS (limited to 60 FPS) if I’m not constantly zooming around the map, and nothing’s lagging even when I do zoom around, so...yay!
#Sims 3#sims 3 pictures#do i want to admit how many hours i spent fiddling with this?#no#no i do not#but maybe i can sleep now

Thought I’d share one of my favorite YouTube channels. This is a live cam of the aurora borealis, and there’s a camera operator, so it’s always pointing at the best view, if there is one on any particular night.
The cam is in Churchill, Canada, where the time zone is UTC -5, which is convenient for me because it’s only an hour ahead of my own time zone.
The show was spectacular tonight!

This is the consignment cashier that the game generated. I think he might actually be Satan. I’ve changed his name accordingly. (Well, OK, I named him Mephistopheles, not actually Satan, because it went better with his surname, but still...)
Anyway, hail Satan, the consignment store guy.
On a different subject: Am I going crazy, or did I actually see something (a mod? a hider? something?) that makes it so that that weird green-brown hair color above doesn’t generate on NPCs. If it does exist, I can’t find it now. Am I nuts? I swear I saw something like that, and I have no idea why I didn’t download it...

Screwing around with ReShade. As usual. Pics be unedited except for cropping/resizing.
I like to increase the contrast because to me the game in its native state just looks...flat, but I’m also going for a sort of dreamy look. So desaturated, slightly higher contrast, and a bit blurry, basically. And also not terribly resource-hungry, so I can leave it on all the time.
I’m also trying to make the outdoor lighting less...harsh, I guess? Because no matter what lighting mod I’ve tried, they all seem to look over-exposed and washed out (yet with harsh shadows, somehow) and sort of...red? orange?...outdoors, so Sims, especially, look weird to me. I want less bleaching and softer shadows. I’m getting close to what I want, I think. (The third pic is the sim in outdoor lighting) It’s still washed-out, but at least the shadows on the sims faces are a lot better. Unfortunately, if I adjust the washing-out too much more, the indoor lighting (second pic) will be too dark. *sigh* It’s a balancing act, and I’m not sure I can have exactly what I want...but I will likely fiddle with it for a few more hours again.
I do like the nighttime exteriors, though! So that’s another thing to balance. *sigh*
Here’s a before-and-after. Reshaded on the right, obviously.

Storybrook County by My Sim Realty, at dawn.
This is a world I’ve always wanted to play, but when populated it choked my old Simming computer because I’m a snob and have to have nice-looking graphics and shit, so I refuse to lower the settings. Now I can play it, yay!

Gots me a new computer that can run Sims 3 the way I want it to run -- all EPs, lots of CC, heavily modded, highest graphics settings + NVIDIA tweaks and ReShade, playing large worlds without lag, etc. -- and I’m kind of feeling like maybe sorta being online a bit again, so...here we are.
I was messing around testing out some makeup I downloaded and making some unnatural hair color presets because it seems hard to find ones that aren’t either pastel or eye-searing neon, and I made these two Sims while I was doing it. The girl ended up looking kinda sorta like a rounder-faced Rihanna, I think. Don’t know how I managed that; I just slidered a randomizer-generated sim a bit.
I kind of liked them, so I tossed them into Storybrook County.
#sims 3#sims 3 pictures#i love this skin btw#because it has the eye corner details yay#i wish it was 2k rather that 1k but still#then again it's a default so 1k is probably a better idea

I don’t know if this will be of use to anyone else, but I thought I’d share anyway. :) It’s a spreadsheet I use to help me with gardening in TS3, which is perhaps the game feature that I like the most. Its complexity is one of the reasons why, now, I prefer playing TS3 over playing TS2. In short, I use the info on this spreadsheet to make gardening/farming more realistic in terms of harvest times, for all the harvestable plants I have in my game, including all of the CC ones that exist, as far as I know.
More info and the download link are on my Pillowfort.

Packin’ up and moving to Pillowfort.
I think most people who follow this little sideblog also follow my main TS2 Tumblr, but just in case that’s not the case...
This is posted on my main blog. The tl;dr is that I’m moving all my online activity to my Pillowfort, leaving Tumblr for all but a few things. So, if you’re interested in seeing what I’m doing in TS3, feel free follow me over there (if you have a Pillowfort) or bookmark the blog or...whatever. :)

Fun with the Transmogrifier: Jetpack flying...without the jetpack or its visual effects. :) This is more like how fairies ought to fly, I think.
#sims 3#i love messing around with that thing#i used a box of tissues as the script 'recipient' *laugh*#just have to remember not to delete that box of tissues#out of the sim's inventory

I think I’ve settled on a lighting mod for Lylanir. It’s not the one in this post, which I like better, because that one unfortunately has a longer day, with the sun not setting until 2100, which means it’s still semi-light at 2300 and then it’s already getting light at 0400 for an 0500 sunrise. I’m not fond of that. So this is an earlier version of the same mod that doesn’t have the extended day, just Maxis-standard. Unfortunately, that one doesn’t have a version with Moonlight Falls’s nice blue water. This one has Monte Vista’s green water, which I’m not as fond of, but I prefer green water over freakishly-long days year-round.
Speaking of which...It’d be nice if lighting could be based on season, with longer days in the summer and shorter in the winter. I mean, assuming that the planet the Sims live on has an axial tilt, that would be something that happens. :) I wonder if any lighting mods do that....
#sims 3#lylanir#only thing is the ground is still pretty light at night#but then i realized i needed to add gelina's tweaks

Unicorn! <3 His name is...
I lol’ed.
(And yeah, I pulled him into CAS and made him a lot hairier than he was. All unicorns ought to be hairy, IMO. But I seem to have lost my tail length slider in the transition to a new user account. Gotta go redownload it...)

The perils of hitting the “randomize” button in CAS when you’ve got a lot of body sliders installed... Oh, the lulz!
This one’s not too bad, though...
But on that note....Are there any hand/foot size sliders out there that DON’T cause shaking that makes the affected Sims look like they’re suffering from Parkinson’s disease? Because all the ones I’ve tried do that. *sigh*
#sims 3#no i'm not really making sims#just checking out the medieval clothing i dumped in#deciding what to keep and what to toss#before i merge the hell out of it
