i think when we used to point out that a story didn't need a sex scene what we meant was "this story reduces its women to mere sex objects and gives them no interiority so the sex scenes are gratuitous and geared towards the male gaze" it wasn't the sex that bothered us per se it was the objectification of female characters while givig them little to no consequence to the overall story but nowadays people mean "sex is icky and gross and has no merit to ever be portrayed in our arts which should be good and pure and never ever make ME feel discomfort" and it's like. i bet a bowl of unfrosted flakes looks real good to you rn

The rate of extraction from the global south is truly enormous
Bananas grow by the millions of pounds, farmed by people paid cents on the hour, transported on trucks whose drivers are paid the same, loaded onto boats whose crews are paid in dollars per day, unloaded at an american port and driven by a rent-to-own trucker to a distribution center where a minimum wage worker labels and ships them to a store where another minimum wage worker stocks them for a dollar a pound. This is imperialism at work on a scale you can visibly see at every produce section at every grocery store in the usa
If you add up all the costs, the highest is first world labor. The labor of the toiling masses which happen before reaching american shores are nearly imperceptible compared to the wages paid to the american warehouse worker or grocery store worker. And yet, even those wages are nothing compared to the total profit extracted from this trade.
This same pattern repeats itself over and over again in every industry. These commodities end up in the first world to prop up their highly constructed and built by genocide and blood political-economy.

Sorry it's actually ridiculous how "don't criticize women's bodies" has been weaponized into "act like everyone who points out a fucked up beauty standard is crazy and a misogynist because some women adhere to that standard and pretend it's normal"

whenever people try to say palestine doesn't have lgbt rights as some kind of gotcha it's crazy because like 3/4 of the people using this as a gotcha don't like lgbt people either. like if the implication is that palestinians deserve to die for not being broadly supportive of lgbt people but you don't support lgbt either then aren't you implying that you should also die for it

Dr. Ally Louks went viral for her PhD on smell, attacked by American misogynist leftists for being "pretentious and pointless and wasteful" and misogynists conservatives for wasting her time in academia instead of birthing children. But anyways, her dissertation is FASCINATING.
She became interested in perfume advertisements in undergrad, when she noticed how limited the vocabulary for smell is, and how it is largely completely neglected as a sense. Companies and brands need to cue us in on a place, sex, money, luxury, travel, etc., for it to remind us of a good smell instead of just showing pictures of vanilla and star anise. When she wanted to study literature (and philosophy) during her PhD, she immediately became fascinated by the fact that Humbert Humbert worked as a perfume advertiser. The entire book of Lolita is a disturbing perfume commercial, selling the scent of Dolores by using imagery of her body. His product is the dark seductress "nymphet", the way a pedophile sees little girls. As the reader, we have to use our olfactory memory senses; the smells of chestnut and peppermint are described so vividly that Nabokov disturbingly forces us into the personal space of a little girl. The christmas scent mixed with the foul beastly scent of Humbert is a perfect sensorial immersion for inducing our disgust. It's so good. She is writing this into a book. Ally is brilliant.

I feel so bad for the annoying women at work. Like I actually feel sick when we’re interacting and I feel the annoyance occurring in my brain like she really doesn’t mean to be this way and she just doesn’t want to feel alone or rejected. you can tell she’s experienced being an outsider everywhere she goes it’s only a matter of time. And it’s not cool chic or edgy but in the ugliest most desperate and dehumanizing way. They always start hopeful. they want to connect and they go searching for someone receptive to her so she can find her people but everyone turns away from her slowly and u hear it in her voice. It’s happening again. she starts hesitating to speak and when she does you hear a shaky child ending every sentence like it’s a question. Testing the waters to know if she’s wrong for even trying. And then I realize I took her smile for granted now that it’s gone.. I have to make it up to her I can’t let something like this continue. Life is so hard for people everywhere, so building a tolerance for being irritated is nothing in comparison especially if the reward is less pain and loneliness in the world I will always be the bestie you have my word

Sometimes, I think about how upset Claudia was when Louis & Lestat read her diaries without her permission. Claudia only consented to Madeline reading her diaries. But, after her death, Louis not only read them but let Armand do so over and over (despite his part in causing her death). And now the whole world knows her story: her innermost thoughts, insecurities, and traumas (partially because Louis gave her diaries to a guy he met once! ) She may inadvertently become another commodity once again- just like the profitable “baby lulu” , she’ll now become “ the girl who moved a million books”.

She deserves to haunt all of these men !😭

the way that people interact with interview with the vampire you would think it was an ensemble cast dramedy following the inner lives of four to five main characters rather than a claustrophobic gothic romance and domestic abuse narrative within the trappings of speculative fiction . the question of who’s your favorite character is almost nonsensical when the self contained story of the first two seasons is so utterly welded to louis’s arc. the other characters are interesting and well realized but they are all relevant in relation to louis. Like you are reading jane eyre and declaring yourself a st.john ride or die. you are reading the haunting of hill house and going i wish luke got more screen time. what does it mean to latch onto a tertiary character or the pretty indisputable villain when the main character. actually main characters since claudia is indisputably second after louis. are BOTH ALREADY gay traumatized and insane i.e. prototypical tumblr “blorbo” material . like maybe you should examine your affective reasoning for not just liking this character but finding them the most interesting character in the show. + not only that the obtuse insistence on being offended or bemused when characters are understood according to their roles as characters rather than as hypothetical real human beings like it is not dismissive or flattening to view armand as an “obstacle to yaoi” when he is quite literally the second male lead
