1910’s:

girls in long, twirly, light blue dresses; going to the circus; kisses on the cheeks between friends; curly hair with flowers pinned into it; dancing down grocery store isles; kitten heels and ballet flats; super extroverted; big smiles and lots of laughter; feminist rallies on sunny days & cute political pins stuck to backpacks

1920’s:

girls with short hair and shimmery outfits; always super dramatic; going to the matinee showings of plays because “there’s nothing to do during the day”; adores romance novels & movies (even though she recognizes that she’s a wonderful human being who doesn’t need a boyfriend/girlfriend to be complete)

1930’s:

girls who love waking up early in the morning and taking walks in the rain with an umbrella and rainboots; minumum makeup, usually; only watches old black and white movies; probably an amazing photographer (and loves poleroid cameras); enjoys making breakfast for her S/O or best friends—whoever happens to be over on a given day

1940’s:

girls in fur coats; shy, until around people with whom she’s familiar; cold winter days filled with anticipation for cosy nights & hallmark movies; christmas parties with close friends; prefers champagne over vodka, and silver instead of gold; forehead kisses; fuzzy socks hidden in stylish boots at all times

1950’s:

girls with secretive smiles who listen to classical music; always wears lots of blush; probably aro/ace, but has lots of friends who love and accept her just the way she is; an amazing artist; always wears unlikely combinations of clothes but somehow pulls it off & looks gorgeous; loves large gold hoop earrings & bright spring days

girls with bright eyeliner and sparkling lip gloss; super good at doing makeup; adores chunky jewelry & statement accessory pieces; prefers to be dating someone as often as possible, (which we respect, because we don’t shame women based on how much they date); super smart (and loves to read) despite not really enjoying school

1980’s:

girls who think they might be gay (or bi or pan) but have little to no experience with romance; costume parties; red lipstick; finding glitter in random places and not knowing where it came from; lots of casual middle fingers and cursing (only towards best friends, and always completely kidding); high ponytails; fingernails that always look flawless

1990’s:

girls who like to stay up all night watching movies like and sleep in all day; sad music is the best music; chokers are probably her favorite accessory (or maybe doc martens); likes long baths with candles & netflix & an essential oil diffuser; has one or two best friends instead of 10 not-as-close ones; loves inside jokes & has a dry sense of humor; thinks fall is the best season ever because summer is too dang hot

just a note: not all of these songs are the original versions because not all of the original versions exist on spotify. also, in case you can’t tell, these are my opinions of what modern girls would be like, not historically accurate ones. i included things that i felt were relevant based on the song lyrics or the way the song made me feel. it’s obviously just subjective so don’t take it seriously :)
