Leveling the Ice is coming out on September 16. As a bookseller I got early access to it and it’s fantastic.

Normally I’d prefer a book about racism to be written by someone from the marginalized communites involved, but this book is by an older white man who’s gone through his own reckoning and is now inviting the rest of the hockey establishment to come along with him on his journey. He’s approachable about it, but doesn’t pull his punches. It’s really very well done and I learned so much.

While professional sports leagues claim to promote diversity and inclusivity, institutional racism remains apparent in all sports, but especially hockey.
