IT WAS HIS own fault for his lack of awareness. he had enjoyed his meal, intent on returning his dish to maeve & giving his compliments to all who had helped prepare it. joshua had thought nothing of the carrots he had left on the side of his plate after so long of being allowed such a privilege by the undying, & so he took no special note of jill's approach until she had been an obstacle, hindering him from his task after inquiring about the only part of the evening meal that he had not finished.

CONVINCING HER TO allow him to avoid this single, unpleasant act was not something that he had anticipated being such a challenge. the phoenix did not cover from enemy nor monster that crossed his path–––– but the advance of shiva's dominant made him consider an outright retreat. in further proof that he was ever the poor tactician, he stood his ground, leaving himself open to the swift & menacing assault that was her hold on his cheek as if he was still a boy, rebelling in the few ways he could within the walls of rosalith castle.

THERE WAS NO pain to her hold, but certainly a part of his pride had been shattered forever. while he could hear maeve's attempt to quiet her laughter, mid gave him no such grace. even clive was watching with an expression that divulged his amusement. there was no doubt in his mind, this would be the latest gossip of the hideaway within the hour.

" i am not a child any longer. there is no need for this! "

NEXT TIME, HE would wait until her gaze was averted & pass his carrots to torgal.
