Taking back control of my life by trying to make time to do things I enjoy, not just housework and kid-care. (It’s hard because a family of six with over half the folks having brain gremlins and/or sleep issues is A LOT and I am physically tired all the time.)
Today that means working on getting my 66 treadle in working order. Specifically, cleaning the metal facings.

Llamedos is open! (July 27. If you’re seeing this on another day or the code doesn’t work and want to see what’s on offer, leave a comment and we can make a plan.)

I’m revamping my island, and have a lot of items and some diy’s to give away. I’ll have them all set out early next week, G-d willing. If anyone wants the Dodo code, let me know so I can tag you when it happens. Feel free to let others know. So many people helped me get my island going when I started, I’d like to share the wealth.

I want to see more 'inspiration' post/articles/whathaveyou about grown adults working in their industry, or starting out later in life, doing awesome and innovative things. Not all of us can be twenty-somethings with the ability to experiment with stuff. Some of us are thirty-something and just getting into the habit of actually living. We could use some inspiration too.

Two weeks ago I found moths in the craft room. Luckily my husband installed the shelves in the new craft room a week before that which means o have been washing and putting away all the fabrics. Also luckily there was a heat wave, so all the yarn, fiber, and wool fabric has been sitting in black bags in the car parked in the sun, which should hopefully kill everything that’s still there. The moth traps I ordered arrive today.
Of course all this progress needs to be put on hold while I do a full and total clean of the laundry room, because one of my children got mad and decided to smash a canning jar in there.

I have a friend who sometimes is hired to set up auctions/estate sales. A few years ago he worked on the estate of a professor of some sort, and was given a number of things as part of his payment. He’s now downsizing his stuff and gave me this collection of Egyptology books. I’m particularly excited about this one on the Ramesside Inscriptions. And it’s always nice to have another copy of the Book of the Dead.
One day I will again have time/energy to stuffy properly.

I would like to be one of those people that posts regularly on tumblr. But clearly I am not. I’m not sure it’s worth even having the account, honestly. I only joined so I could get in touch with @spiletta42 since she wasn’t answering emails. I was too late though.
Anyway. That’s the post.

I have come to the realization that internalized ableism is a thing, and I don’t like it.

Happy Pride month.
I’ve been thinking about what, if anything, to post. I do not like performative activism, and its important be an ally and have pride year round, not just in June.
Pride started as a riot in response to police brutality. It morphed into a celebration of self as people got fed up with hiding and being shamed for being themselves. To me, Pride is not about sex, or even sexuality. It is about acceptance and self love. It is about acknowledging that there is nothing wrong or bad about being a sexual being, even if the way one is goes counter to social norms. It’s about realizing that gender and sexuality is a spectrum and that no matter how different one thinks they are, they are not alone. Queer is not new, nor are any of the alphabet soup of labels people use to express and explain their inner experience. What is new is that people are being honest with themselves and society, and no longer allowing themselves to be pushed aside. There are so very many ways one can experience gender and sexuality, some have names, some don’t. I plan to spend time this month listening and learning. I hope others do to. Regardless of if a person is queer or not, there is so much to be learned so we can make the world more comfortable that people can feel safe to be themselves.
So to all the queer folks out there: happy pride. If you’re out, not, or somewhere in between, be proud because you exist, you are valid, and you have decided to own your life and that is worth being proud of.

I went to the hardware store on Friday to get the parts needed for securing the shelves to the wall in the new craft room. What was the craft room will be become the girls room, and I will be moving everything into the depressing windowless box that was the storage room. I’ll be doing it properly this time, and slowly to make sure I don’t accidentally end up with this kind of mess again.

I have no idea how I’m going to make time to get the shelves put up though. So for now I’m trying to sort things and downsize. I have a very hard time getting rid of things.

I’m copying this from my Facebook page, because I feel strongly about it. I’ve had a lot of conversations recently that have been less than comfortable.
: I support Israel. I support a two state solution, that allows Jews and Muslims access to their holy sites. I want peace. I acknowledge that the governments of Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank do not speak for all their inhabitants. I recognize that there have been, and continue to be, big issues with how many things have been handled.
What I do not support is terrorist organizations being in control. I do not support civilians being attacked, and countries under siege.
The issues are large and complex. I do not support nor appreciate people only caring when Israel defends itself while under attack. I do not appreciate people saying that Israel needs to give the land back to the Palestinians, leaving us no where to go.
If you believe that the country of Israel as a whole belongs to the Palestinian people and the Jews and Israelis should ‘give it back’, you are saying that the Jews have no right to a home.
If you condem Israeli use of force, but say nothing against the constant barrage of rockets sent daily from Gaza into Israel over the last 15+ years, you are saying that you support terrorist tactics, and that you are okay with attempted murder - so long as it is done by the ‘underdog’
My family are under attack. They are not oppressing people. They are trying to go to work, the park, eat dinner. If you side with hamas and their rockets you are telling me that you are okay with my family, and by extension me, being killed.
I don’t need that kind of friend in my life. I’m happy to discuss the issues, but only with those willing to see the nuance in the situation. Anyone else is welcome to defriend me both here, and in person, at their leisure.

People keep posting on Nextdoor about seeing foxes, coyotes, turkey, deer, geese, and owls. I find it both annoying and hilarious. These animals are native to the area, it’s really not that surprising to see them.
