random astronomy facts about venus
Tumblr media
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
✩ venus: an underestimated planet ✩
In traditional astrology, venus is often reduced to the “lesser benefic,” a sweet but secondary counterpart to jupiter. she’s painted as light, decorative, concerned with beauty, pleasure, and romance—but rarely seen as powerful in her own right. yet when we look at venus astronomically, her story tells us otherwise:
venus is the hottest planet. it's hotter than mercury despite mercury's proximity to the sun. a day on venus is longer than its year — and it spins backwards (retrograde rotation)! explanation:
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ a venusian year (orbit around the Sun): venus takes about 225 Earth days to complete one orbit.
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ a venusian day (one full rotation on its axis): venus rotates super super slowly — it takes about 243 earth days to spin once. that’s longer than its year!
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ retrograde rotation: most planets (including our blue planet) rotate eastward, so the sun appears to rise in the east and set in the west. venus spins the opposite way (westwards), so on venus the sun would appear to rise in the west and set in the east.
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ the sidereal day (true rotation relative to stars) is 243 earth days.
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ but because venus rotates backwards and also orbits relatively quickly, its solar day (sunrise to sunrise) is about 117 earth days. so, if you were standing on venus (ignoring the crushing atmosphere), the sun would cross the sky once every 117 earth days.
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
if we honor venus as she is—not just the “lesser benefic,” but the planet of heat, reversal, and rhythm—we see her true role in our charts: venus is not just about romance; she’s about alchemy of desire. venus is not just about beauty; she’s about the fire that forges harmony. venus is not just about attraction; she’s about the magnetic force that rewrites destiny. venus doesn’t need to chase power—she already bends time, burns hotter than mercury, and spins against the current. that’s not weakness. that’s sovereignty.

SoooOoo it turns out that the blog website I created to house all of my art is getting too expensive to pay on top of my other website. It also is not the best for viewing my artwork on and doesn't support image galleries.
Just to be clear: I have two websites, but I just discovered that my portfolio website also has an archive option. This archive page actually support galleries, makes viewing images a better experience, and doesn't cost me anything extra!
That means I have to move E V E R Y T H I N G over to the new archive, but I hope to have that up to date in the next 3 months. This archive will be on dominiqueramsey.com under "The Fun Corner" tab.

I'm volunteering for a literary journal right now and there's two things I think you all should know.
1. Most people that submit to literary journals are cis white men. We know this because our journal has an anonymous survey about demographics for people that submit.
2. Most things that get submitted to the creative non fiction section are on the level of middle school "What I did over the summer" essays.
I cannot see the demographics of the people whose essays I'm reading, but guys, if you are wondering if you should submit your work to a literary journal or not, I promise you that just in terms of statistics there are a lot of mediocre cis white men and people in general confidently submitting weird crap that isn't literature to literature magazines. Do it. Submit your work. Please. If you want there to be more diversity in literature, be the diversity. Do it. Do it do it do it.

HOT TAKE - STOP FEARING SATURN
Tumblr media
I get it Saturn rules over hardships and longevity but please stop limiting and breakdown Saturn as only struggle and pain, hardships and trials and tribulations. Especially in synastry and composite - growth and lessons are inevitable. None of y'all reference natal influence/rulership nor energy like Saturn's effect overtime. I never see proper breakdowns everything is doomsday. We aren't all ruled by pretty planets anyway nor are we all supposed to feel like Saturn is just a signage for complete struggle that's not an accurate description. Saturn energy isn't something to fear in all actuality placements mean nothing if you don't understand how that energy effects the chart. This with Saturn in the 12th composite or Saturn in anywhere none of y'all have much of substance to say except struggle love struggle struggle, no nuance thats my concern.

I am done choosing between my womanhood and my blackness.
Stop giving me fictional white female characters and telling me “these are the fictional women to admire, the ones that break the mold, the feminist icons, the representation you’ve been longing for.”
Stop asking me to squint to see myself represented on screen. Stop telling me to “wait my turn”, to support shows with white female leads as though this was a rare occurrence, as though there haven’t been thousands of them through the years. As though white women haven’t been held as the pinnacle of progress and feminism on TV since Lucille Ball.
Stop telling me that a white woman playing a spy, is innovative and feminist when you’ve had Wonder Woman, Charlie’s Angels, Scarecrow & Mrs. King and Alias before Agent Carter.
Stop telling me that seeing Jessica Jones, a white female character with PTSD, on screen is a long time coming, a revolutionary feminist act, when Joss Carter, Abbie Mills, Olivia Pope, Sasha Williams and Michonne aren’t afforded the same treatment regarding theirs from writers, media and fandom alike.
Stop telling me that “romance is not part of the show” when said show is built on the loss of the White Male Lead’s love interest. Stop labeling black female characters as one half of a “brotp”, as the supportive friend, a mammy that does everything but wipe the white man’s ass or tuck him into bed, only to prop up the Random White Woman In The Background as the obvious choice for a new, better suited love interest.
Stop giving me Trojan Horses, those black female characters I’ve longed for, the ones I finally can see myself in, the ones that you’re praised for creating and writing, the ones you make money off of only to kill them later, once they’ve served their purpose.
We are not your first step towards success, we aren’t a tool to be used to avoid criticism, or appease higher ups afraid of losing money because of the lack of diversity and representation in their shows.
We are not either women or black, we are both and we deserve to be spies, the fated love interest, the damsel in distress, the selfish one, the vulnerable one, the pinnacle of feminism and progress, the one who’s turn has come, the one who was a long time coming.
Stop giving me a drop of water and calling it the sea.

Correcting some misconceptions about Ketu
Theres a lot of misconceptions around astrology whether it be vedic, sidereal, tropical and the nodes are up there...
Ketu is NOT what you lack. Its not where you're unlucky or unfortunate, honestly its kinda hard for me to grasp why some people make it out to be that way.
Both nodes are malefic but Ketu has a significant benefic territory. In simple terms, it's where you have mastery and therefore you're casual about it. In transits, when Ketu transits a house you will get unexpected blessings that you didnt work hard for regarding the placement. E.g when ketu was transiting my 10H, i got my first job without even applying for one. 2 women i know had their babies when ketu was transiting their 5H
So when someone has 3H ketu, you cant say "they don't have siblings, cant learn new skills, dumb"
3H ketu does NOT mean a person wont have siblings, presence of a planet in 3H highly indicates siblings or cousins. Ketu there means they will have a lot of siblings and cousins that they may have trouble keeping up with and there will be something unusual about their relationships such as big age gap, step siblings, interesting circumstances etc.
They may have cutthroat style of communication but they will be very good at picking up skills and be practical as malefics do very well in 3H.
When someone has 11H ketu, you cant say "they dont have friends, they are left out" etc.
11H ketu gives one wide circle of friends and network, ability to get along with everyone and outsource things, they are often well known but desire to be cooperative or fit in is lacking, meaning they won't really care about having friends. Its the "if one leaves another comes" mindset (i have it) . Instead, they will prioritize romantic connections and their mind will be preoccupied with romantic interests due to 5H rahu. Another benefit of this placement is ability to manifest due to their detachment from ambition/desires, theres a natural understanding of "It will come one way or another"
When someone has a 5H ketu, you cant say "they dont like kids, they dont like to have fun"....the transit literally brings potential childbirth. This moreso pertains to them having breaks in education, but they live quite dharmically.

Black ppl of all ethnic groups in America are under attack rn in a real ass way.
the fact that Michael Robinson being brutally assaulted by 8 white teens to the point he was begging for them to stop so he wouldn’t die? is in the same place where fucking RODNEY KING happened & was one of the things that jump started the LA “riots”.
his peers came together to voice their ire with the Simi Valley city council and baby… the recording of one of the perpetrators literally saying he will kill niggas in front of his COP FATHER is… yeah we gotta start whooping ass on all sides, no hesitation. the kids can get it too, idgaf.
that’s why i must reiterate, white & nonblack ppl’s “ edgy racist phases” may have been temporary for them, but had lifetime consequences for Black kids & teens.
