btw i am constantly thinking about kevin day’s comeback and the way he spent weeks training with wymack just to get to a place where he could contribute on the court, and how rough his playing still was, and how the Foxes didn’t think he’d be able to pull this off, & he pushed himself until he could score anyway

and i am constantly thinking about how, “Instead of getting irritated, Kevin got quiet,” how he honed his aim and focused on being able to score on andrew, because if he could score on andrew, he could score on any of the other goalies in the league—it meant he was good enough to play. and it took weeks, but he did it.

and i am thinking about how scoring once wasn’t enough, how kevin relearned his target, relearned the game, and did it again and again, and how andrew rose to the challenge, and as kevin regained the pieces of himself, he dragged andrew with him, and “for the first time all year, Andrew had looked—awake”

Kayleigh Day is such an unbelievably interesting character to me. I have so many questions. How did she become close friends with the cast-off son of the Japanese mafia? Was she really so close to Tetsuji as to name him Kevin’s guardian in the event of her death, or was her will forged? Why did she not tell Wymack that Kevin was his son as Kevin got older, when Wymack’s future was more secure? Did she know about Tetsuji’s criminal connections? Why was she still close to him if she did?

And we may never know the answers to these and it drives me crazy. Unless the Kevin duology-

in honor of kevin duology ive been sketching anyone but kevin

kevin day and guilt. he couldn’t save riko. not as a child, not in the nest, not from death. he couldn’t save nathaniel. he couldn’t save jean. he couldn’t even accompany renee in helping get jean out. he was limited in what he could do for jean after and I think he knew that jean wasn’t in a place where he could see him. he genuinely thought neil was going to die and there was nothing he could do about it. he couldn’t save himself, even when so many other people seem to be moving forward. with andrew, most of the people he cares about and himself, kevin can only use exy to push people along or take the edge off of cruelties he has no control over. and even then. half the time it’s exy that’s damned them all anyways.

and imo it’s obvious to anyone who read these books that kevin does deserve the credit for what he does for others and for everything he set in motion (so many charas care So Much abt Him specifically!), but I don’t think kevin thinks nearly so positively of himself. if at all lmao. it was all of the sport and none of him outside kevin day, the exy player. kevin day and his drowning self-deprecation ☺️☺️
