I know things are hard right now for people in America, the UK, Australia, and Canada, but I don't want anyone to give up because that's exactly what they want you to do. They want you to feel powerless and unable to stand up to the establishment. They want you to feel alone and isolated. Do not let them win by giving in to defeatism. Do not surrender to the system.
There can be a day when YouTube drops its AI age verification policy and returns to its old self. There can be a day when MasterCard and Visa relent to their customers and tell Collective Shout to go fuck themselves. There can be a day when the Screen Act, the BEARD bill, and the HR 9495 bill go down in flames. There can be a day when KOSA is no more, and there are no bills to replace it. For those in the UK, there can be a day when the Online Safety Act is completely removed. For those in Australia, there can be a day when the restrictions for minors are lifted and ID is no longer required. For those in Canada, there can be a day when no more KOSA-like bills are introduced.
But to get to that day, we must work together. We must make our voices heard by any means necessary. If we must throw bricks or start fires or march in the streets, we shall. If we must drag the people who forced these bills and acts upon us out by the hair of their heads, we shall. We will get our point across, and they will hear us.

Results from calling about the refusal to process payments for adult work on itch.io and Steam:
My script in each case hit the points of 'I'm a cardholder calling about the recent refusal of this company to process payments for works deemed adult, particularly in regards to the Steam and itch.io games marketplaces. This has been in response to protests made by a small religious group in Australia. Frankly, I don't find it [company]'s place to dictate how I spend my money, and I'm very concerned that this is in response to protests from a religious group that should have no legal power over me. If this continues I will be seeking an alternate way to make payments and will no longer be a customer of your brand.'
Visa
heard me out, thanked me for the feedback
asked me to email my feedback to '[email protected]' so they can track it
advised to not include any identifying details such as card numbers etc in the email
Mastercard
the phone tree did not have a complaints section so I navigated the options as 'current cardholder' -> 'a question about benefits'
happily took my feedback after confirming my customer details (full name and contact number)
let me know that they had already received significant feedback about this issue and it had been 'escalated' and registered my feedback to add to the pile
I was concerned about feeling awkward about calling a company and basically being like 'yo I'm mad you won't let me buy porn' in terms of I don't think a poor customer service rep should have to deal with that, so I was planning on sprinkling in 'and LGBT content is frequently mislabelled as adult' in my script but I Forgor and it was fine. Each call was <1:30 and minimally painful. If you needed a sign to call, call today! Or, well, maybe email Visa.

Sorry we really went from free the nipple, take back the night, slut walks, and ending gender/sex segregation in sports being fucking milquetoast feminism 101 concepts to fucking girl dinner and "I just worry about fairness if we let trans girls play against cis ones" and "it was right of that woman to call the cops on a black man for existing near here in public during the day time because men are all violent monsters" and "radical feminism isn't transphobic we just need to kill all men including trans ones those oppressive traitors" and I will legit never be able to be normal about it. What the FUCK happened. I'd say I wonder what the feminists of my youth would say about this but I'm one and lemme tell ya I want to throw up. Go fucking read bell hooks or do something else useful please because all of this learned helplessness, gender essentialism, and transphobia dressed up as feminism is actively holding us back.

every major structural social problem right now is basically "we don't have enough skilled workers on the ground" and the reason is always "well we've been intentionally underpaying and understaffng them for decades to increase corporate profits" and somehow the news always just mentions the "shortage" without digging into the cause
air travel is a mess? shortage of air traffic controllers - for some mysterious reason
logistics a mess? shortage of truck drivers - for some mysterious reason
public transit can't meet demand? shortage of bus drivers - for some mysterious reason
We even mysteriously have shortages of doctors, nurses, teachers... FOR SOME MYSTERIOUS REASON
FUCKING PAY PEOPLE AND HIRE ENOUGH STAFF

My current not-approved-by-the-government opinion is that im not anyone's parent and i should not be responsible for random teenagers online. If I post smth thats 'meant for adults' and its labled as such then what happens from there is literally not my problem. If a teen- who is fully capable of turning on self moderation settings on their own btw- doesn't use a site's provided self moderation settings and they see boobs or dicks then like literally whatever, its neither the end of the world or a big deal. It shouldn't fall on me or a website or a tech company to do a parent's job, and also frankly i don't think a parent should be breathing down their 16 year old's neck on the off chance they do actually want to look at tits, but thats a discussion that americans will fucking throw a fit at so maybe we'll discuss that another day in better company.
"But what about young children!!" see thats! where parents should be involved- that is to say, why are you letting your young child on the internet in the first place, you fucking idiot.

We live in the dumbest, lamest cyberpunk dystopia possible.
So LA has been — and continues to — protest against ICE. These protests haven’t gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasn’t reflecting it.
TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.
They’re calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are “stages.” The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. “Here’s what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.”
And it fucking worked.
TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words “music festival” or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.
So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but it’s the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline we’ve landed in.
