His head cocked to the side. That was an odd answer. His parents hadn't even considered it for himself until it was the last option available. 'Really?' He signed back, brows furrowing questioningly. 'That's odd. Not many learn.' Honestly, he wasn't sure if he believed her, who just learned it? But at the same time, it was nice to kinda talk to someone.

She was trying to think quickly of how she would know signing. It was not a talent most people were taught. She assumed other royals were taught it but she didn’t want to scare him away if he found out she was a royal or have him go get gaurds for her. She decided to be pretty truthful, I mean her father had been a spinner at one point. She signed “My parents thought it would be a good talent to have. So they got me a tutor who is an expert in it.” Amelia told Edric smiling.

He has a habit of ignoring people. Not just because he's deaf, but he'll actively ignore people too.

Mmm... I don't think so.

6. Their romantic relationships?

He's never had one, but he's thought of it. 

7. What is the biggest mistake they’ve ever made?

I'm not entirely sure but I feel like it was having a huge fight with one of his family members. I'm thinking his mom or one of his siblings, someone close to him that supports him more than most. 

15. How might they be ignorant or prejudiced?

Oh, he's prejudiced against hearing people. If they sign he's slightly more okay with them, but even then he's kinda eh. So it's like all the time basically? He gets tired of having to work to communicate and being held back because of his deafness and being treated lesser so he usually just sticks to himself instead.

He smiled softly and nodded. Slowly, since he wasn't sure how many signs she had learned, he signed back 'Where did you learn to sign?'

She watched carefully as he spelled his name. “It is nice to meet you Edric.” Amelia signed back to him.

She was signing? Amelia. He smiled. It was a pretty name. He slowly finger spelled his own name back, making sure to go slow for her. E-D-R-I-C. Then he signed 'nice to meet you', mouthing the words just in case.

Amelia waited for him to speak. Her brows furrowed as he took his finger and slashed across his neck. She then realzied he couldn’t speak. She had never heard of anyone who…yes she did, some of the servants  and visiting royals gossiped in the castle. She never cared for it, everyone was born a certain way they never asked for it. She had never asked to be born into privilege but she was. She was not very good at signing, still learning it. But she brought her hands up to sign her name and to let him know that though she was rusty she could sign.

There was an awkward pause between them as he thought best how to answer her question. Taking his finger, he dragged it up his throat and shook his head, trying to indicate he couldn't speak. He knew if he tried to tell her he couldn't hear it would just be more explaining. And she might start trying talk louder and slower or something.

She looked at the boy and noticed that she didn’t say Hi. “Hi, I’m..sorry again for bumping into you. I”m Amelia. May I ask what you’re name is?” She felt horrible for not saying Hi first but was also grateful that he did not seem that perturbed by the fact that she bumpled into him.

Father isn't there. Edric sneaked out. And he wouldn't recognize her (they keep him cooped up a lot), and she might not recognize him unless she's just heard about the embarrassment of the duke's deaf son at court (im sure there's gossip). a lot of people view deafness as a disability and back in more medieval times he would've been viewed as an embarrassment I'm sure. but since he was born as a noble, he got off easier than most and is relatively well adjusted, except mostly hidden from public and never expected to do anything.

so because i”m out of it and he’s the Duke’s son my Amelia just relized he might recongnize her or if he doesn’t then if his father comes around he might recongize the crowned princess

He shook his hand in a 'it's no big deal' sort of way. He typed something else out, [See you around], showed it to her and looked ready to leave.

"Oh, okay" Amelia replied as he told her that as long as she didn’t talk to fast he’d be able to understand her. "Thank you again, for getting my phone."

'Yeah, in the dinosaur age.' He mimicked a dinosaur, holding his hands up as claws and moving slowly.

"Give me one good reason why I should wear a dress."

'Complement those giant sunglasses of yours,' he signed back, exaggerating the size of the sunglasses he had seen the man in before.

'I can see,' he automatically signed back. 'Not bad for a hearing person.' He turned to his bike and kicked the stand free, pulling it towards him. He waved a goodbye to him.

Neal smiled. ‘My mother taught me. When I was a teenager. She had a nephew who was deaf and I wanted to be able to talk to him. I am a bit rusty. It’s been years.’
