“I didn’t mean to wake you up…”

Like lightning had struck her, Katherine jolted up with unsteady breaths. Despite her knowing it was a dream, it didn’t keep her mind from getting so caught up in it all. Thanks to her inhaler, she finally felt steady enough to speak,

“No... No. I am happy you woke me. Best to get up to great the day.” She took a long drink of water before continuing, “Was there anything I could help you with, Dead Sea?”

“How late were you up last night?”

She didn’t think she had looked as tired as she felt, but clearly the doctor was delusional. The bags under her eyes were layered with each hour she didn’t sleep. Exhaustion lead her gaze and the words spoken to hear felt hazy.

“I... Stayed up all night.” Katherine hated to admit, but, “I haven’t slept for the past 48 hours, I’m afraid.”

      How can you stand it?”

“Meyers.” she stated firstly, “Doctor Meyers. And I honestly can’t. I would suppose I am quite good at hiding it.”

“But I do have a solvent that is like a cooling cream, of sorts. It’s good for your skin.”

Sleep Starters

“How late were you up last night?”

“You’re not pulling another all-nighter, not if I can do anything about it.”

“Aren’t you cold? I can go get you some blankets!”

“Are you alright? I thought I heard you talking in your sleep.”

“Don’t worry, you’re alright. It was just another nightmare.”

“I don’t want to get up!”-“You can’t make me go to bed!”

“Can you turn your music down? Some of us are trying to sleep!”

“That looks highly uncomfortable. How do you even sleep like that?!”

“I didn’t mean to wake you up…”

“Don’t you think it’s getting awful late?”

“Sweet dreams!”

“I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night.”

“You said some interesting things in your sleep last night.”

“Did you have another bad dream?”

“Come on, let’s just go to sleep.”

“You look exhausted. Did you get any sleep last night?”

She nods, face dull of emotion as she passes over a bottle of purified water.

“Here, and I agree. This heat is was greatly unexpected from somewhere so far north.”

🐳: a water creature

Crawfish have even more legs. They are quite adorable to Katherine and they’re ridiculous, adorable walk keeps her from wanting to eat one.

🐤: a flying creature

Katherine has encountered many types of birds, many of which kept her company on quiet nights and distracted when sitting alone. The most aggressive though are the birds of prey in the desert.

She watched one carry away a young gecko off into the air.

It was worrisome.
