the children in a prophecy’s shadow.
Sort of my take on 999. I imagine both them and Purple would be affected the most in regards to the prophecy, probably not considered as important as 1k. Whereas Purple seems to manifest this impact through worrying about how others perceive him, I’d imagine 999 is a bit more angry at their circumstance. As a result, they’re a bit grumpier and less eager about 1k’s existence, probably choosing to avoid meeting him as long as possible.
They’re not even that mad at 1k. They’re just bitter about the prophecy, and it doesn’t help that 1k is the prophecy.

random alcatraz headcanons because he is unfortunately not leaving my mind (long)
Post-New Alexandria his body has difficulty regulating his own body temperature. As such, he overheats faster than other robots. This is a combination of factors, ranging from the overall stress from New Alexandria to potential troubles in transferring consciousness in the early days of civilization. This unfortunately isn’t something that can easily be fixed.
As a result, his living place is colder than most places in the city. It’s more comfortable for him.
He has bad knees thanks to New Alexandria.
He is good at video games. Scarily good. Maybe speedruns them too. Might have started after New Alexandria while he was waiting for repairs to his body. Probably was gifted a few consoles over the years by friends. 1k post canon probably pesters Alcatraz to play at some point, and then proceeds to lose because Al has 700+ years more experience. Still doesn’t stop 1k from pestering him afterwards.
Just due to the fact everybody who’s played the talos principle 2 likes Al even if they disagree with him, he’s just a pretty popular guy overall in the city. Everyone likes him.
When Byron became mayor, Alcatraz took a break from his administrative role, then returned after they reconciled during the Isles of the Blessed section of the DLC.
Says he doesn’t have a cat, and doesn’t plan to have one just yet, but ends up feeding some of the local strays that live outside his door daily. But those aren’t his cats. Doesn’t matter that a few of them wander into his house when it’s cold outside and he has cat beds for them. Still aren’t his cats.

random headcanons for talos principle 2 (long)
The concept of siblings in the context of the new humans is different than their ancestors. For one, biology is not a component here at all. It’s highly likely the new humans are adopting familial terms based on vibes, but I think the component of how quickly two humans were activated in comparison to each other may influence whether or not a bot considers another bot a sibling. We know two sets of siblings canonically confirmed in the game: Eustathius and Cornelius, and Euhemeros and Mabon. Eustathius and Cornelius were awakened in a relatively short timeframe of each other, therefore Euhemeros and Mabon were likely awakened in the same way lending them the status of siblings.
The rate at which new humans were made is not linear. We now by the time 1k is born, 2 robots were made a year based on dialogue with Purple. That being said, jumping off from the brother headcanon, there may have been a time where robots were made a faster rate in some centuries/years, and there may have been some time where the rate was much slower. I imagine events such New Alexandria may have slowed that rate significantly in response to possible resource depletion, as well as Hermananubis administration implementing some restrictions that slowed the creation rate within the years leading to 1k’s birth.
Human technology restorations is popular as a means to learn about their ancestors. This is kinda evidenced by the fact that the robots have canonically played Bioshock. Pellegrino has gotten stumped every time a “I am not a robot” prompt appears.
Someone (likely Jacques) has definitely played outer wilds and is probably losing their minds in the post “theory of everything” ending during the space exploration scene. (I definitely did)
Hermananubis is confirmed to be doing great after being elected out in the DLC. I think maintaining a lie for so long to preserve a civilization in the short time only for it to have underlying damage to its future is gotta be really stressful. Good for him.
Certain avenues of artistic expression (movies, films, video games (?) etc) were probably not made by the new humans due to potential resource limitations. I think this is kinda interesting, as other forms of art like art, poetry, text adventures, still managed to persist based on group chats. This may be because of limitations within the Archive, whether it may be copyright reasons that prevented Arkady from uploading movies as well as not having enough data to preserve them. Maybe after resources aren’t as much of an issue, there may be some attempt to revive these art forms.
There’s an inherent limitation in record keeping using digital means, as the accessibility of technology is not universal even in the current day. A lot of human history is inherently going to be lost through this form preservation. I wonder in what ways it affects the new humans perceptions and understanding of their ancestors, and whether or not it may affect their trust/faith in the Archives.
Purple has named two cats “red” and “blue”
the crabs are sentient.

1k and his two dads
#the talos principle 2#the talos principle#1k is meant to be holding a 3ds that he found at some point#he would love the original professor Layton trilogy I think#Byron and Alcatraz are at least very prevalent mentor figures to 1k based on some of the dialogue in the dlc#to me I interpreted that the game is leaning to a bit more familial relationship based on the fact that Melville calls herself “Auntie”#but that is only my interpretation on how the characters view each other

Eusthathius was kneeling above him. Two arms, scuffed and worn, wrapped themselves around Alcatraz’s torso and arms.
Error codes flooded his visions, and questions overloaded his mind. A choked sound escaping Alcatraz’s voice processor.
“Lad, it’s okay, it’s okay. Please don’t push yourself,” Eustathius spoke, hushed by the sounds of a fire. “We need to get you out of here first.”
More error codes appeared. Some of them were urgently warning him of an imminent power shut down to his legs. Alcatraz groaned.
“I know, lad, I know. Try to go to energy saving mode, yeah?”
As much as he could, Alcatraz nodded.
Before he could close his eyes, he saw New Alexandria.
What remained of the city were flames, gnawing at the buildings they had spent months working on.
Metal bodies were melted onto the destroyed stone roads, some still with their eyes intact, staring at Alcatraz.
Before the end of its fifth year, New Alexandria was gone.
#the talos principle#the talos principle 2#kinda was sketching a redesign for Al in which his upper half was an older model for the new humans that was more like Athena’s model#and his lower half is the default model for the new humans in talos principle 2#because of the whole thing with new Alexandria#And considering his beliefs I think he would have kept onto parts of his original model to save resources#then this idea came about through a quick sketch#It’s not “finished” but I’m making it “done” because I don’t have time to complete it

I know it’s probably due to some limitations during development that all the new humans look the same in game, however I think it would make sense if the new humans were a bit more individualized. I think it would have been interesting if some characters, particularly those that believe in the whole thousandth human prophecy, have kept the original models they were made to conserve resources.
I imagine those that explore more like Yaqut or Byron would pick up clothes as souvenirs. I also think shoes would be more common as to prevent wear and tear on their mechanical body.
I also just thought that’sYaqut would look cute in a pilot’s cap and goggles.

tip for spotting gen AI art imitations or at least avoiding blogs that don’t really care if the images they post are gen AI:
For paintings that seem to use traditional mediums like oil paint, pastels, etc., check to see if the description includes the materials used to make such a piece. Not just the name, but the dimensions, the materials used to make it, and the material it was made on.
The more detail someone is able to provide about how a piece is made, the more likely something is less likely to be a result of AI. A blog that is willing to provide this is more likely to be more careful in what types of art they repost. If they only credit the name of the artist and the artwork isn’t something popular like the Mona Lisa or the Last Supper, there is a pretty good chance that it is AI.
#art#i think this also ties into a bigger conversation on general internet etiquette regarding proper crediting but that’s a whole other post tb
