I was thinking about this, and how Jax is one of the characters who apparently never curses in the show, which subverts some expectations and I just considered another reason it might be.

We see in episode 5 how Jax clearly cares a lot about control and his autonomy. It’s why the vegan stuff, the tail, and the maid dress all seem to mess him up badly. He likes to downplay the power Caine has (“Caine wouldn’t do anything malicious, it’s not in his nature.” “The only thing holding Caine back is the fact he likes us.”) It’s better for him to think that the reason he is able to do whatever he want isn’t necessarily because Caine is letting him, but because nobody has the power to stop him.

But cursing is one of the things the circus has hard rules about, it’s one of the things that Caine clearly DOES have control over. So even if Jax swore, and the implication was clearly there, as we see with the other characters, the fact it’s being censored would likely be another blow to his autonomy, another dent in the illusion that he has control.

This whole “Can Caine change the minds of the members of the circus” smacks a lot of this scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Just found out something that someone pointed out

So for Jax to be confused about his tail being missing could have a deeper meaning to it

Okey so theory time: What happened to the physical bodies of the cast and what does C&A have to do with the circus?

First of all, I, like many others in the fandom have been thinking from what we saw in ep 5 that at least Pomni, Ragatha and Zooble have entered the circus from the headseat in the desk of the old looking building showed in the pilot when Pomni is looking for the exit.

In the pilot when she enters what it seems like an abandoned office while looking for the exit, she sees a particular desk with a computer and a headseat and starts to laught like a maniac and right after we see the C&A logo of what it seems a company.

So, it may not be the first time in the show but in ep 5 we see the SAME logo INSIDE the digital circus.

So there is an obvious connection to whatever C&A is and the circus.

Note : I cant stop thinking that C&A is a reference to Cain(e) and Abel.

So, I assume that every character's entrance into the circus is connected to the C&A company. And if at least more than one entered via THAT computer it SHOULD have been a body (either dead or alive) using the headset next to the computer, and i dont think that anyone would just ignore that body and just put another random headseat on. SO im starting to think two ideas

1) The bodies are actually INSIDE the circus. They were sucked in along with the mind, the soul and every "part" of the person who put the headseat on. So the bodies are inside the circus but they are dissconected from the minds and remain hidden somewhere inside the digital circus.

2) The bodies remain in the outside world but someone connected to C&A hides it or gets ride of it, so other people can come to the building, see the computers and put a headseat on. It would mean that someone or something inside the C&A building or related to the company takes direct action to "hunt" people into the circus for some reason.

Thats it.

Surprised to see not that many people talking about a lot of Jax's anger coming from a loss of bodily autonomy?

That struck me as a huge thing from this episode. From first the vegan joke to how he gets noticeably distressed from it at the bar, to realizing his tail is gone, even the maid outfit section, Jax clearly doesn't like being controlled. He tends to roll with the punches during adventures, or finds ways to have fun otherwise, but when its his own body being changed against his will, thats when he gets actually upset beyond the point of masking it with being an ass
