best friend on the phone: "hey if you had a daughter and she brought home a robot and said it was her boyfriend, how would you react?"
me: "oh girl. you shouldn't have asked me that."
*proceeds to ramble off a list of question starting with if this robot is sentient, if it's a free agent, what role do robots have in society in general, why is it gendered, how does robot gender work in this world, why were robots created and by whom, what has this particular robot's life looked like before meeting my daughter, is it able to consent to a romantic relationship, do robots face discrimination in this world, what is their relationship to humanity, do we still live in a capitalist society or--
best friend: "hey so actually nevermind."

Murderbot showing up at ART's front door like some kinda designer cat wandering around as a stray meowing for a meal.
Murderbot walking on to the transport blithely not realizing it is being the equivalent of a stray cat walking into a human person's home. There's that thing abt how cats apparently perceive humans as fellow cats, but just differently shaped, sounding, and weird or sth? but anyway- This is Murderbot thinking ART is just gonna be like a regular-ass transport or perhaps a peer.
and then whoops! turns out ART is (to it) a vast, incomprehensible being of nigh-cosmic proportions that greatly outclasses Murderbot, for all that Murderbot has guns for hands (much like how on average a human can outclass a cat, despite them having knives on their hands). Which in some ways, is cats to us, etc.
and then Murderbot huddled down scared after ART reveals itself. that is like when the semi-feral friendly has crammed itself into a corner in the bathroom. and then you have to lure it out with food treats and toys.
anyway all this to say. you know how there's that post about Han Solo & Chewbacca being a story abt a man and his dog, but Han is the dog? In many ways, Murderbot is about the story of a man adopting a stray cat off the street. But Murderbot is the cat.

It has come to me. ART and murderbot. Tiger and cheetah bonded pair.
Actually in a codependent trauma bond emotional support mess?
But like one is fast and mobile and smaller and anxious, one is big and very dangerous but also sociable enough to a select few.
Like together, chill enough.
One of them alone, well grumpier for sure.
Still, both are 100% capable of murdering you. Bit they like you. They just might stare and loom threateningly. It鈥檚 fine. Let them destroy something, like a corporate. It鈥檚 coping skills. For their anxiety.

comparing autistic people to robots as a form of mocking and dehumanization <- very rude, ableism, not cool
making up robot characters with traits that autistic people have because you're trying to thoughtfully portray someone with a logical, unorthodox, alexithymic personality and end up making them autism-coded <- autism approved, new hyperfixation, i am the character

I'll always talk up internet radio stations because I don't think the average person is aware that they're free, can run in your browser (or in any program that can connect to them), work on your phone, run better than a youtube tab, and give you a much better selection of music than you could get from a general algorithmic playlist
(also lots of them have live shows which you can tune into for free)

It's crazy how many people use Death of the Author to mean "separating the art from the artist" when it's actually not supposed to have anything to do with who the author is as a person and is supposed to be about the idea that the author's interpretation of their own work should not be seen as the definitive, correct opinion on that work. Like you're not supposed to invoke Death of the Author when JK Rowling devotes her entire life and fortune to transphobia, you're supposed to invoke it when Trent Reznor says Closer by Nine Inch Nails isn't a sex song.
