“You two shouldn’t be here.”
“Nice to see you too, Senator,” Maia replied to Bail, who was shaking his head at them. They had landed their shuttle at the Palace and the Senator had hurried to greet them.
“We’ve come to help,” Obi-Wan added.
“Won’t you get in trouble with the Council?” Bail sounded concerned.
“Probably.” Maia shrugged, feigning indifference. “But we’ll deal with that when we get back to Coruscant.”

“You’re distracted.”
Maia sighed. How did he always know? Well, she knew how he knew – it was their connection through the Force. She just wished he wouldn’t point it out all the time.
“Sorry, Master.” She tried to focus on her meditation, on connecting to the Force but her mind kept wandering. She just couldn’t clear the image from her mind.
“Talk to me,” Obi-Wan’s voice was soft.
Maia opened her eyes, meeting his gaze. She instantly felt assured. She could tell him anything.

A Sky Full of Stars ~ Chapter Fifteen
Chapter Summary: Anakin joins the Jedi Order.
Chapter Warnings: None
Word Count: 1.3k
Masterlist
When they got back to the Temple, the Council held another meeting about what to do with Anakin. Maia stood in the centre of the room with Obi-Wan and Anakin, surrounded by the Council members.
“You still have an apprentice,” Mace was saying. “You cannot also train the boy.”
“Maia will take the Trials when she is ready. Until then, Anakin can be placed in the Creche. It will be a good chance for him to learn the basics before becoming a Padawan,” Obi-Wan countered.
A small smile crept onto Maia’s face. She had suggested that to Obi-Wan, reminding him that she had also spent time in the Creche. She knew she wouldn’t be able to put across this idea herself. Speaking out of turn would be seen as disrespectful.

Prompt: Musician AU
Pairing: Kris Fletcher x Deke Shaw
Summary: When Roxy Glass, one of the guitarists in the rock band The Deke Squad, injures her hand, she desperately turns to her friend Kris Fletcher for help. She asks Kris to take her place on stage that night, but Kris is hesitant as she hasn't performed on stage in years. After Roxy wears her down, Kris eventually agrees, her stomach churning with nerves as Roxy excitedly introduces her to the rest of the band.
Firstly, there's the other guitarist, Olga Pachinko, a stern Russian woman who doesn't speak English but attempts to teach Kris the set anyway. Then, there's the twins, Ronnie and Tommy Chang, the friendly pianists who welcome her immediately. Cricket, the drummer, is a laid-back but kind of rude guy who's clearly using and selling drugs. And lastly, Roxy introduces Kris to the lead singer, Deke Shaw. Right off the bat, the two don't get along with each other, but they have no choice but to be civil – either they perform together tonight or the whole show is cancelled.
Pushed way out of her comfort zone, Kris is extremely nervous at the start of the show. But as the night carries on, she loosens up and begins to enjoy the thrill of being on stage again. And, high off the post-show adrenaline rush, Kris and Deke find themselves hooking up backstage.
All in all, it turns out not to be as terrible as Kris had initially thought. And, maybe, just maybe, she would consider performing with The Deke Squad again.

And Suddenly I Saw You
Prompt: Colourless AU
Pairing: Maia Callis x Obi-Wan Kenobi
Summary: After living in a colourless world her whole life, Maia Callis finally meets her soulmate. The only problem is he’s a Jedi, forbidden to form attachments. But Maia is certain they can find a way to make it work.
Word Count: 1.1k
Also read on AO3

Maia had been too excited to sleep. And yet, she wasn’t tired in the slightest. She rushed around from place to place, trying to get a feel for the expansive city that was Coruscant. She had bought a holo-map which labelled all the best tourist destinations and had been crossing them off all day.
It was now dusk, and the stars were starting to appear. They were a lot fainter here than they were at home. Probably due to all the light from the surface, she thought. She could see the sun setting behind the tall buildings, but this sky was just as colourless as the sky on her home world.
Maia sighed. She had travelled around the galaxy and yet she still hadn’t met her soulmate. Everywhere she went, everything she saw, was dull and monotone. Her parents often described colours to her – the grass and trees were verdant green, the sky and the sea were clear blue, and the flowers around their house were all shades of pink, and red, and orange. But those descriptions were meaningless to her – they didn’t change the fact that she still couldn’t see the colours. Only her soulmate could change that.
Maia stopped walking. She supposed she should be getting back to her apartment, but she now found herself hopelessly lost. She had been on her way to check out the Senate building but must have taken a wrong turn somewhere along the way. Now, she had no idea where she was.
It was her own fault, really. She had been daydreaming, not paying attention to where she was going. Her feet had carried her off as if she was following something, as if she knew where to go.
But she didn’t. And now she didn’t recognise her surroundings at all.
She stood underneath a bright sign, using the light to examine her map more closely. She spun around, trying to orient herself, not watching where she was going. She collided with someone else unexpectedly. Her map and the bags of souvenirs she had been carrying scattered across the stones of the square. She hurried to pick them up, hoping that nothing was broken.
“Oh, dear. I’m terribly sorry. Here, let me help you.” The stranger bent to help her.
“Oh, it’s okay. My fault, really. I should have been watching where I was …” Her voice died as her eyes met bright blue ones. Her vision burst into brilliant colour, stealing the breath from her lungs. “... going,” she breathed out.
She blinked, taking in her surroundings. The sign above her was a warm yellow, the holo-map was pale blue, her clothes were deep purple, and the sunset … the sunset was burning orange, fading into a dusty pink as her eyes moved upwards.
She turned back to the stranger, who was also looking around with a slight frown creasing his eyebrows. His ginger hair was short and spiky, except for a thin braid on the side of his head, and he was wearing cream-coloured robes with a dark brown cloak. A silver hilt rested at his hip, glinting in the light.
“You're a Jedi,” she breathed in astonishment.
She knew what this meant, she had heard the stories – Jedi rarely ever found their soulmate, and even if they did, they weren’t allowed to form any significant attachment to that person. If they were to remain a Jedi, then their duty to the Order must come before any personal feelings. Most Jedi became friends with their soulmates, but the relationship never went any further than that – no romance, no marriage, no children. But there were also stories about some Jedi refusing to have any sort of relationship with their soulmate, platonic or otherwise, and that worried her.
Of course, there were non-Jedi soulmates out there who never fell in love with each other but remained close friends their whole lives. But Maia had always hoped she would fall in love with her soulmate. And now, she had just found out that that might not happen.
He turned back to face her, and those striking blue eyes met hers again. “I am.” He nodded graciously. Then he held out his hand. “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
“Maia Callis.” She shook his hand. “Nice to meet you.”
As their hands touched, she felt a surge of … something shooting through her whole body. It was a connection – that was the only way she could describe it. A connection.
“And you,” Obi-Wan replied, looking preoccupied. “I … I must head back. My Master will be looking for me.”
Maia nodded, a little disappointed. “Of course.”
Although she had only just met Obi-Wan, she didn’t want him to go. She had so many questions, and she guessed he did too. But also, there was something about him that drew her in. He made her feel comfortable and at ease, like she had known him her whole life.
That was the bond soulmates shared, she supposed. They were your other half, the one person in the galaxy who knew you best. It was only natural that she should want to spend more time with him.
And in that moment, she realised that maybe she would be okay with not falling in love with him. That, maybe just being his friend, just being around him, could be enough for her.
She smiled at him as he handed her another fallen souvenir. “Thank you for your help.”
“You're welcome.” He turned as if to walk away, but stopped. “I hope I’ll see you again.”
Maia felt a surge of hope. Maybe they could make this work, after all. “I hope so, too.”
He shot her a kind smile, nodded, and then headed towards a large building with five towers stretching up towards the darkening sky.
As she made her way further from the Temple, she felt a coldness begin to creep in. The night had seemed so warm in the square, just outside the tall doors of the building. It was a strange feeling as the air around her didn’t appear to have changed; the coldness seemed to be coming from within. Well, she was from a tropical planet, and her parents had warned her Coruscant would be colder than what she was used to.
She shook off the feeling and placed an extra blanket on her bed when she returned to her apartment. She wrapped the souvenirs she had bought and attached her parents’ address. She would post them the next day, she decided.
Maia expected sleep to come easily after such a busy day, but it alluded her yet again. She couldn’t stop thinking about Obi-Wan. His presence was familiar and calming, like soft summer sunlight.
Maia stared out her window at the stars, hoping she really would see him again soon.

Shadow of the Moon
Prompt: Dark AU
Pairing: Maia Callis x Obi-Wan Kenobi
Summary: When Count Dooku left the Jedi Order, he took Obi-Wan Kenobi with him. Qui-Gon, devastated, is hesitant to take on another Padawan. But when he runs into Maia Callis outside the Jedi Temple, he sees her potential and promises to train her.
Years later, after Qui-Gon’s tragic death, Maia meets Obi-Wan for the first time. Although he has fallen to the Dark Side, Maia won’t give up on him and is determined to bring him back to the Light.
Word Count: 2.2k
Also read on AO3
Maia had heard a lot about her Master’s former Padawan. At fifteen, he had decided to leave the Jedi Order along with Count Dooku. Qui-Gon had made many desperate attempts to bring him back, but had failed each time. At one time, he had even vowed never to take another Padawan again. Until he met Maia outside the Temple one evening.
No other Master would train her, believing her to be too old to start learning the Jedi way. But Qui-Gon had seen her potential. Her Master had always believed in her, even when others did not – most Masters thought she was too impulsive and stubborn, and they didn’t like how she spoke out of turn and bent the rules when she thought necessary. But Qui-Gon had supported her at every turn, telling her to trust her instincts, to let the Force guide her, and to be wary of giving in to others’ expectations.
This made it all the more devastating when he died on Naboo. She had killed the Sith Lord who murdered him, but nothing would ever bring her Master back. Nothing would ever heal the gaping wound in her chest that ached every time she thought about him. The only light in the darkness of her grief had been Anakin, the young boy that Maia promised Qui-Gon she would train. She had fought hard to keep that promise, arguing for hours with the Council, insisting that he stay with the Order – she was determined not to let him go back into slavery.
Over the years, Anakin had settled into his place in her heart, a place that had always been there, waiting to be filled by him. The time she spent with him, training him, were some of her fondest and most treasured memories. And the day he graduated to the rank of Jedi Knight had been the proudest of her life. Anakin had become her whole world, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
But having her own Padawan had made her realise just how much Qui-Gon had lost when his had left. The stories he told, the sadness in his voice, the regret on his face, all haunted her.
And now here she was, staring at the man she had heard so much about. Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Daylight filtered through the large, triangular stained glass window, bathing Dooku’s throne room in green light – a stark contrast to the red lightsaber in Kenobi’s hand. He strode down the stairs towards her slowly and deliberately, his black cape swishing behind him elegantly. His blue eyes studied her closely, watching her like a predator watches its prey.
But she was watching him, too. She moved further into the expansive room, keeping her pace steady. Her eyes never left him. Her thumb brushed over the cool metal of the lightsaber hilt in her hand, but she didn’t ignite it yet. She wanted to see what he would do first.
The faint sound of the battle outside was the only thing that permeated the tense silence between them. Until Anakin stepped towards her.
“Come on, Master, we can take him,” he hissed in her ear.
Before Maia could reply, Obi-Wan spoke up, his voice echoing off the walls of the vaulted hall. “Rather impatient for a Jedi, aren’t we?” he mocked.
Anakin bristled. Maia put a hand on his arm as if to say ‘not yet’.
“And how would you know?” she replied calmly. “You’re not a Jedi.”
“I could say the same about you.” His eyes swept over her again. “I grew up in the Temple, and I don’t remember you.”
“I joined late. It was after your time.”
Still, they drew nearer, circling each other as they approached the centre of the room.
“Ah, and here I was hoping for a challenge. Instead, I get an impatient child and an inexperienced would-be ‘Master’. My, my, the Jedi’s standards truly have declined.” A condescending smirk played at the corners of his lips.
In the Force, Maia could feel fierce anger pulsating around Anakin. His grip on his already ignited lightsaber tightened. In truth, she could feel her own indignation rising hot in her chest. But she held it back for the moment.
“I’m hardly inexperienced. It might interest you to know that I was trained by your old Master, Qui-Gon.” His gaze sharpened – that had caught his attention. “He was a great Master, and I assure you, he taught me better than Dooku could ever teach you.” She didn’t hide the bite in her words, wanting to provoke him.
And it worked. A dark shadow of fury crossed his face, and he leapt towards her.
In one swift movement, Maia ignited her lightsaber and swung it upwards, blocking him. They locked eyes through the gap between their crossed blades, rage boiling behind their gazes. But, while Obi-Wan’s was red-hot and full of resentment, Maia’s was calm and controlled. As he jumped back, readying to strike again, Qui-Gon’s words echoed in her ears – feel, don’t think.
So, that’s what she did. With Anakin at her side, she dodged and parried Obi-Wan’s attacks. But she refused to remain on the defensive – she and Anakin had become quite the coordinated team over the years, practising all sorts of joint attacks to startle and confuse their enemies.
But, to give Obi-Wan his due, he matched them well. They traded blows equally, neither side giving the other much ground. The way they were almost perfectly in sync, it looked somewhat like a dance.
Anakin’s lightsaber whooshed past Obi-Wan’s face, just barely missing his cheek. In retaliation, he used his free hand to Force-push Anakin away, sending him flying back across the room. The thud of Anakin’s body hitting the wall made Maia’s stomach flip. She cast a glance over her shoulder to see her former Padawan slumped on the floor, unconscious.
She whipped back around to see Obi-Wan staring at him, sick satisfaction flashing in his eyes.
“He was bothering me,” he drawled. “Though, Dooku may still have some use for him yet …” He trailed off, making direct eye contact with Maia to ensure that she understood his meaning.
She did. She glared at him, the anger in her chest burning brighter, igniting a fire behind her blue eyes. This seemed to please Obi-Wan greatly, so Maia decided to wipe that smug look off his face.
“Stay the hell away from him,” she growled.
She lunged forward, aiming her lightsaber as though to stab him. While he was distracted by deflecting her blow, she used the Force to shove him back. It was harder than even she expected, her emotions fueling her strength.
Obi-Wan crashed into the desk at the other end of the room, toppled backwards over the tall chair behind it. Maia marched forward, ready to keep fighting, expecting some sort of payback. What she wasn’t expecting was to hear laughter. She paused momentarily, before coming round the side of the desk. Obi-Wan was kneeling on the floor, his head down, chuckling. When he looked up at her, his expression was full of glee.
“You know, you would make an excellent Sith.”
“I’m afraid it wouldn’t work out. I don’t seek strength or power.”
“But your passion makes you stronger. Why not set it free? You would win this war a lot quicker if you had the ability to crush your enemies swiftly.”
“But by embracing the Dark Side, my allegiance would no longer lie with the Republic. I would no longer be a Jedi. I would have failed. And I refuse to fail.” She set her jaw, her decision final.
Obi-Wan shrugged. “Have it your way.”
Maia’s throat closed. She wheezed and choked, gasping for air. Her lightsaber flew out of her hand, Obi-Wan catching it as he stood up. Maia clawed at her throat desperately, black spots appearing at the edge of her vision as Obi-Wan squeezed tighter.
Her feet lifted off the ground, and she levitated towards Obi-Wan.
“I’m sorry about this, my dear. Truly, I am. You were an … interesting opponent, at least. More than I can say for your other friends. But, you know what they – if you’re not with me, then, by definition, you are against me. And the less Jedi there are, the better. So, I’m afraid this is goodbye.”
Maia’s eyes narrowed. She was now inches away from him – perfect. She swung her leg up, her boot colliding with the underside of his chin. He stumbled back, his concentration broken. Maia dropped to the ground gracefully, using the Force to return her lightsaber to her hand. She stood up, twirling it around until she settled into her hanging stance. The hum of the blade in front of her, resting just above her eyes, steadied her.
“You were saying?”
Obi-Wan wiped away a trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth, glowering at her. His lightsaber flew from the ground to his hand, and he wasted no time in attacking her again.
The round was more intense. They charged at one another, bombarding each other with offensive moves. Hit after hit, strike after strike. They barely had time to think or register what was happening – they were moving on pure instinct.
Blood pounded in Maia’s ears. Her palms grew slick with sweat. Her limbs ached, the ferocity of the fight taking its toll. Her vision blurred with nothing but red and blue streaks. There was nothing else but this fight. Nothing. Obi-Wan had completely consumed her.
With their blades locked once more, she spun her lightsaber around as quickly as she could. The movement flung Obi-Wan’s lightsaber out of his hand. It careened through the air, smashing through the window and disappearing out of sight. The noise of the battle outside became clearer, coming in through the hole in the glass.
Maia didn’t hesitate. She Force-pushed Obi-Wan to the ground, and held him there, the tip of her lightsaber aimed at his throat. The impulsive side of her screamed at her to end it – finishing him off would be a great step towards the Republic’s victory. One less Dark-sider for the Order to worry about.
“What will you do now, Jedi?” he sneered. “Are you really going to kill me?”
“The thought did cross my mind.”
“But I’m unarmed. You can’t kill an unarmed opponent.” He smirked, thinking he had caught her in a trap.
“You’re unarmed, yes. But you’re not defenceless. The Code states that we cannot kill those who present no threat to us or others. You present a great threat. Killing you would be justified.” She stared down at him, her gaze steely.
Then, something totally unexpected happened. Maia saw a flash of fear in his eyes. It was brief, only visible for a moment before being disguised by arrogance and anger once more. But it was enough to soften Maia’s resolve and quench the fiery anger in her chest.
Qui-Gon had told her stories about how good Obi-Wan was – his kindness, his compassion, his willingness to help, his instinct to protect. He had once been a shining beacon of the Light Side of the Force. Her Master had always suspected that Dooku had used Obi-Wan’s goodness against him, twisting it into something dark and dangerous. But Qui-Gon had remembered Obi-Wan’s true self. Qui-Gon had never given up hope.
Qui-Gon had always believed that one day Obi-Wan would come back to the Light Side.
And it was that belief – her Master’s belief – that stayed her hand. She had spent the last ten years honouring Qui-Gon’s wishes by training Anakin. Now, she must honour his wish to see his Padawan return to the Light.
Maia retracted her bright blue blade. “Killing you would be justified,” she repeated, her voice calmer now. “But that’s not the kind of person I am. I will not let this war make me into a monster.”
A cheer went up outside, making them both turn their heads towards the window. Through the crack, Maia could see her men celebrating. She turned back to Obi-Wan.
“Looks like the day belongs to us. I suggest you go now – they’ll be coming for you next.”
But Obi-Wan didn’t move immediately. He stared up at her, a mix of emotions swirling behind his eyes. Then, he surged to his feet and took off towards the desk. He pressed a button and the floor opened up beneath him. He shot one last look at Maia before leaping into the darkness below. The floor closed again.
Maia turned around at the sound of a pained groan. Anakin was pushing himself off the ground, wincing as he moved. Maia rushed over to him, helping him to his feet.
“You okay?” she asked, concerned.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine.” Even as he said the words, he rubbed his back with a grimace. Then, he looked around, his brow furrowed. “Where’d he go?”
“He, uh, got away,” Maia lied. “We’ll get him next time. Right now, we need to get you to a medic.”
“I swear, I’m fine!” Anakin protested.
He continued complaining as they made their way out of the throne room. Just before the doors closed, Maia cast one last glance at the spot where Obi-Wan had disappeared. Hopefully, they would cross paths again. Hopefully, she would be able to bring him home.

Prompt: Dark Academia AU
Pairing: Maia Callis x Obi-Wan Kenobi
Summary: At eighteen, Maia Callis had no idea what to do with her life. Directionless, she delays going to university, choosing instead to travel the world and discover other cultures. Eventually, she can't put it off anymore and picks a degree in politics at Coruscant University. But after the first few classes, something still doesn't feel right.
For fun, she takes a philosophy class, taught by Professor Qui-Gon Jinn and his teaching assistant, post-graduate student Obi-Wan Kenobi. When it comes to asking questions, Maia feels more comfortable approaching Obi-Wan as they are the same age. The two become close and Maia changes her degree to religion and philosophy, just like Obi-Wan.
Over time, the two develop feelings for each other. Despite there being no problematic age gap, the fact that Obi-Wan is her tutor creates an issue, preventing them from being open about their new relationship. Although keeping this secret is difficult for both of them, Maia can't help but enjoy the thrill of sneaking around the ancient halls of Coruscant University. Perhaps pursuing higher education wasn't as boring as she first thought it would be.

Prompt: Book Store AU
Pairing: Flora Baggins x Fíli Durin
Summary: When her cousin Bilbo decides to go travelling, Flora Baggins takes over the family’s secondhand bookshop and cafe, Baggins’ Books.
One day, Fíli Durin stops by for a coffee after work and finds himself flirting with the cute owner. He keeps coming back, pleased to discover that customers get a free coffee if they buy a book to read in the cafe (meaning he has an excuse to stay and chat with Flora longer). Wanting to get to know her better, he asks for her book recommendations. She tends to recommend cozy fantasy, historical fiction, short stories, and poetry, all of which he is sceptical about. Fíli prefers reading mystery, epic fantasy, sci-fi, or anything with tension and cool action sequences. But, surprisingly, he finds he quite enjoys Flora’s recommendations.
Flora, now in charge of the bookshop, decides to redecorate a bit by adding plants and flowers around the shop and cafe. She adores nature and is very diligent about keeping her plants healthy. Fíli, on the other hand, knows nothing about plants but loves to listen to her talk passionately about them.
Despite their differences, they do have one thing in common – both have just inherited their family business and are trying to find the right balance between respecting traditions and doing something new. While Flora has free rein to go her own way now that Bilbo is out of the country, Fíli’s uncle Thorin is still very involved in the business even though he can't work there anymore due to illness. Like Flora, Fíli wants to introduce new things – their metalworking business is known for producing practical items like tools, gates, and railings, but Fíli wants to branch into more artistic products like furniture, sculptures, and custom artwork. Flora encourages him to pursue his passions.
After consulting his uncle, Fíli begins making more creative items and they sell really well, giving the business the boost it needed. As a thank you, Fíli makes some custom art for Flora’s bookshop, which she hangs on the wall with pride for everyone to see. And, in gifting this to her, Fíli finally plucks up the courage to ask her out on a date, and she eagerly accepts.

Maia waited outside the Council eagerly. They were being assigned another mission, and Master Qui-Gon was coming along too this time. She had never been on a mission with him before, and she was excited to learn from him. He and Obi-Wan were currently being briefed by the Council, and then they would be on their way. She hated that she only ever received information about missions second-hand, but it was typical for Padawans. Missions were often secret or involved sensitive information, so Padawans were only told what they needed to know.
The chamber doors slid open, and Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon entered the corridor. Maia jumped up.
“So, where are we going?” she asked keenly. As they approached her, she noticed their grave expressions, and her excitement died down.
