One of the things that I absolutely love about Jane the Virgin is just how unapologetically and profoundly and thoroughly Rogelio de la Vega loves the women in his life.

His first reaction after discovering he had a daughter is going absolutely crazy needing to see and interact with her. It’s not running away, it’s not being scared or neglectful. He loves and supports Jane even after he learns that she doesn’t share his artistic passion for show business and continues to give her his best interpretation of love and support, even if it fails to actually help her - he’s by far the most vocal of her immediate family in how great of a writer she is, even if it’s a skill he can’t immediately relate to. When she didn’t feel comfortable calling him “dad”, he didn’t push. He just wants to be there for her, he just wants to be her father. He never ever uses her as his emotional support tool, despite how dramatic he can be. She’s his daughter and he’s her father.

There are so many reasons any other show would’ve portrayed Rogelio and Alba as bickering frenemies who are barely civil - but Rogelio respects her. He respects her not only as Xiomara’s mother but as an individual in her own right. They have a special bond and connection as people who have had firsthand experience with the exclusion and prejudice first generation immigrants face. They’ve experienced real poverty and though they’ve made very different life choices they both respect each other so much and there’s so much kindness and shared pain between the two.

Though we don’t see much of Valeria and Victoria in the later seasons, we know that Rogelio keeps contact with his stepdaughters and they’re an important part of his life - which, again, is uncommon to see a stepfather embrace in media. He’s not scared of being “stuck with them” but cares about them and their feelings and when Jane points out they might feel left out by their new connection, he goes out of his way to correct it - even if it’s in a way that doesn’t deal with the heart of the issue, he had good intentions. I wish we’d seen more of them later.

Sure, he has his flaws, but he always tries his best to be there for Baby. He loves her just as intensely as he loves Jane and we can see that while they may be apart, and it seems like Darci has primary custody, he longs to be with her and appreciates her and sees her as a gift, not a burden or an accident!

Even if the relationship was short and tempestuous, Rogelio never once doubted Darci as a mother and how much she loves and cares for Baby - he’s respected her and her boundaries when it comes to childcare more than some of the other male characters in the show.

Sure, his professional relationship with River Fields is also complicated and they’re bickering rivals - but when the chips are down, they really do respect each other as artists and decided to come together to promote equal pay for artists in both racial and gendered grounds. They’re both bombastic and a little self-involved, but at the end of the day, there’s a kinship there, even if begrudging.

And of course, saving the best for last, Xiomara! They ar some of the healthiest straight relationships I’ve ever seen, period. He just. She’s so much to him. You can tell he truly sees her as beautiful and irreplaceable and no matter how many times there’s been circumstances where he had to abstain from sex for her sake he was perfectly willing to do it with no follow-up questions. Sure, he expects her to be there for him, and he’s there for her in return. There’s so much love in his eyes when he looks at her and I can’t even talk about it because frankly if I’m ever loved by someone half as deeply as Ro loves Xo I should could myself lucky.

Special mention goes to Dina because I couldn’t find anything to say that hasn’t been said.

4x02 Damon manipulating Elena:

“Why is Elena feeding on Damon’s blood such a big deal?”

Julie Plec: “That’s a little bit of a shout-out to the books, but also just to vampire folklore in general. If you look at any of it metaphorically, it’s a very intimate exchange of bodily fluids. So you can read into that what you will,” she says. So is it fair to equate it to vampire sex, or should we not go that far? “Well, it’s like vampire naked cuddling,” Plec says, laughing. Does it come with any side effects? “No,” she says. “Elena doesn’t know what she’s doing, but Damon damn well knows what she’s doing. That’s really Stefan’s point: It meant something to him, which means it means something to me.”

Damon really deserved to be punched by Stefan.

In S5, there is a scene where Elena says to amnesia Stefan that his instinct was always to protect HER. It was just soo bad coming from her, because girl, it would've come accross less self centred for you to say, his instinct has always been to protect everyone. Because that's exactly what it was and who Stefan has always been. When people need him, Stefan has always come through for them. It's like Katherine said in 5x09, "Deep down Stefan's a hero. He can't always come through for himself but he can always come through for others." It's funny because Katherine is supposed to be the self centered one, she's the one who was supposed to not know Stefan the way Elena does. But it's truly the opposite.

S5 Elena was truly something else. So narcissistic in the way she made Stefan's whole amnesia about herself. She was trying to jog his memories by reminding him of who she was to him rather than reminding him of who he was. But to do that ofc, Elena needs to have the understanding of who Stefan is, at his core. But she thinks Stefan's whole life revolved around her. She thinks he was only a hero for her. That's why she she says dumb stuff like "your instinct was always to protect ME".

It is truly hilarious how, as the show progresses, Elena comes off as the person who knows Stefan the least. Because even Caroline who hadn't dated Stefan at that point understood him way better. She brought amnesia Stefan back from the edge of being the ripper again, by simply saying "this is not who you're Stefan. You might not remember but I do". She's emphasizing that Stefan's not the kind of person who enjoys hurting people. It's a significant difference from Elena, because Caroline's not making it about herself. She makes it about Stefan and who he is. Not who she is to him. She also brings this point home in S6, when she stands in front of Stefan and says "You're the one that always cared. Even in our perfectly messed up lives, you cared more than anyone." Stefan cares. Not just about her. But about everyone. And Caroline understands this about him. She goes as far to say, that's the thing she likes the most about him.

Elena somehow thought Stefan only ever cared about her (Elena stans also have this misconception lol). How she got there, I truly don't know. And it is far from truth. I also have a theory that, this attitude is what she likes about Damon the most. She loves the fact that Damon only cares about her. She has even bragged about how her serial killer of a boyfriend (Damon) would kill just about anyone for her. She revels in the fact that Damon would do things ONLY for her. This is what makes her say in S4, "look I know you guys have issues with him but I'm happy." The *issues* being, Damon abusing Caroline and Damon killing and turning Bonnie's mother. Lol. These *issues* are not important cos "he has always been there for ME whenever I needed him". That's all that matters to Elena Gilbert. Even with Stefan in S1, it was the same for her. She couldn't understand why Bonnie wouldn't want to be around Stefan, even though he was partly responsible for her Gram's death. So Elena said "After my parents died, it's been a while that I felt good, and Stefan's a huge part of that". So Bonnie's feelings dont matter, she wants Bonnie to get along with Stefan cos he makes HER happy. That's all she cares about.

As long as Stefan and Damon are there for her. It doesn't matter who they hurt.

And she makes the mistake in thinking that like Damon, Stefan ONLY did things for HER. Even in S2 she says "he doesn't like dancing, he only ever did it for ME". But we later see this is not true. Stefan enjoys dancing. In fact HE seeks Caroline out multiple times to dance with her. Elena just never bothered to understand him. She always thought it was all about her and only about her.

I have nothing against Dramione stans but it's worth noting that in every single fanfic I've read, Hermione's this stunningly beautiful woman, and Draco can't believe his eyes when he sees her after the holidays with long endless legs, and beautiful eyes, and hair flowing down to her waist and all that rubbish.

It's not as if Hermione's not beautiful, it's just that she's not a recuperated version of Angelina Jolie.

It seems as if Dramione fanfics are mostly based on how Hermione's the literal version of the 'ugly duckling', and Draco's this handsome Greek god of Slytherin and sure, there might be hidden feelings slithering underneath the surface as fanfic authors so wisely point out; the story almost always starts with Hermione being noticed by Draco for her looks.

There's no such thing in Romione. Ron accepted Hermione for who she was, he loved Hermione because she was smart, she was kind and she was brave. Draco didn't. Ron didn't love her for her looks, and sure, physical appearance is a defining factor in a relationship but more than that, it's character. Not once, did he ever comment on how Hermione looked, except when she looked stunning.

Dramione in canon would be extremely toxic and Hermione would never forgive someone who called her a Mudblood every year, wished her death (and did you forget she trapped Rita Skeeter as a beetle, in a jar for writing rubbish, permanently scarred Marietta Edgecombe for being a snitch and attacked Ron, yes Ron, with exploding birds for kissing Lavender?) You really think she'd see the good in Draco after everything he did? Hermione is not a forgiving person, goddamn it. And honestly, if Dramione is compared with childish love where the boy pulls the girl's pigtails and basically 'annoy the girl who you like' temperament and the girl hates him but then they grow up and become dashing teenagers and oh MY GOD, he is so hot — then honestly, I don't know if you read the books properly.

This is not a pull the girl's pigtails scenario, this is a bully and a girl fighting the bully.

Hermione Granger is a witch with character damn it, who was known as the brightest witch in her year for seven years straight. She was not known for her looks, she was known for her brains. We need to appreciate that. And sure, Draco might have been a severely traumatized child but SO WAS HARRY and I don't see Dramione fans talking about that.
