Can't believe that Dream dramatic ass appears in Hob's dream (while Hob is sleeping beside his girlfriend) and bid a farewell like he is a soldier about to leave his wife for war. That fuckass gay stare make me believe they are gonna kiss

West Side Story (2021) Thoughts
I’ve seen West Side Story (2021) twice. One of the reasons I’m eagerly anticipating it’s arrival to Disney + is because there are aspects of it that can be easily missed during the initial viewing. I felt the seismic impact of the rumble much more during my second viewing than when I watched this scene the first time.
When Tony is attempting to discuss and explain the extent of his feelings for Maria with Bernardo, you can practically feel the tension among Tony, Bernardo, and Riff. Tony is desperately trying to redeem himself so that he and Maria can have a worthwhile future. Bernardo is jarred by Tony’s revelation and allows his knowledge of Tony’s past along with his race and association with the Jets to hamper his abilities to be receptive to Tony. In addition, Bernardo’s devotion to his family, particularly Maria, means he is in protective mode at all times. He can only see Tony through the eyes of someone who is affected by racism and xenophobia every day, specifically targeted by the Jets.
Then you have Riff. Riff is invigorated by his allegiance to and maintenance of the Jets, who are his only kin and reason for what he perceives to be “moving forward.” Tony is a central figure from Riff’s past. Now, he sees Tony slipping out of reach as he pursues love and, ultimately, permanent alienation from the Jets. Therefore, when Riff says, “You’re breakin’ my heart with this shit!” to Tony, my heart breaks for him. This doesn’t mean I condone Riff’s choices and behavior nor do I believe his actions are justified. However, I can empathize with his inability to accept the changing dynamics with his friend because when a friendship has been integral to your life and begins to shift, it can be unsettling and arduous to accept. He doesn’t understand why Tony can’t do this for him after he’s done so much for Tony, including fostering a brotherhood with him and, in turn, forming an entire band of brothers who are consistently there for one another. It is in this pivotal moment I believe Riff feels he has truly lost Tony and no longer recognizes his best friend. Moreover, Riff fails to realize that Tony can no longer be who Riff needs because Tony needs to be a better man for Maria and, most importantly, himself.
I had a deluge of thoughts in relation to this scene and needed to explore and express them. Thanks for reading them and feel free to share your thoughts, too:)
