Achievement of the day
Since my husband's diagnosis (just before Christmas 2023), I was the show runner in our household. Childcare, chores, fulltime work, garden work, paying the bills, you name it, I did it.
As he slowly became better and stronger, we agreed he could take the kids to his parents' for a long weekend (bank holidays), leaving me on my own for the first time in ages.
And so I have finally caught up with my spoon's deficit and even got some more of them to finally have the energy to write again.
It was amazing. I finished the next chapter of Ruthless Calculus and I am confident I could post it in a next few days.
Thank you for reading this up to here. I was not really present online, just reading and not interacting, but I thought about you guys, so I hope you are safe and sound.
See you around in this place of the net,
<3 String

PSA
Just a heads up, there are bots going around on AO3 accusing people of using AI. Considering the timing, this is likely AI bros' retaliation for AO3 users calling them out for scraping their work. Examples of what you might be sent:

One problem with writing happy endings in a world that seems increasingly irrational is that it is harder than ever to convince myself that they are realistic. But I nonetheless continue to do so. They haven’t managed to win, not in the long term. They have all the money and all the power, and still, here we are. Happiness is not just an act of optimism—it is an act of defiance.

OK, so if anyone is curious how my job hunt turned out, read on.
The cybersecurity job I dropped after round one. The level of passive agressivness remarks about being a mother and therefore unsuitable for the job was staggering. "40hrs/week? We don't do that quiet quiting for our leaders here." or "how important is work/life balance for you? Are you seriously expecting to be done with your daily work at 5pm?" etc. So much for equal opportunities.
The round 4 fell of that engineering job fell through. The guys expected a level of knowledge of programming language I last coded in 12-15 yrs ago and it showed. It didn't matter to them the job would be in a completely different brand new language that everyone has to learn, still nope.
In the end I applied for more than 10 roles, some dismissed me immediately, some did so after round one. To say I was getting disheartened was an understatement.
But I got a job in the end. It is a large international software company my spouse works in, but I will not work with him, I was adamant about that. And boy, the salary is so good. With the confidence of a mediocre white man I asked for a ridicoulous sum and the boss was like:"Okay, sounds reasonable. I might even give you more that that, I cannot usualy give raise to new hires under 1 yr."
He gave me hundreds of euro more than I asked.
It means even with my husband out of work, I can easily support our whole family. Kids can keep their sports and after school activities, they can get the large lego boxes for Xmas, etc.
I have two job interviews tomorrow. The first is round 1 in cybersecurity.
The other is round 4 of 4 in software engineering.
Wish me luck.

I’m not dead though it feels like it sometimes.
Tired af. On autopilot all the time and even the autopilot turned on their autopilot and is warning me about imminent crash.
But i gathered enough spoons and updated my cv. Even wrote a cover letter (i hate cover letter, did i ever mention it?) and started to apply for new jobs.
Wish me luck.
