I have an idea/writing prompt

A story where every person is connected to an individual plant

Our protagonist is riddled with depression and mental illness and wants to cut down the weak sapling they’re connected to.

They arrive, having overcome the challenges of life, encountering a thunderstorm.

They run for cover under a large oak tree.

The tree is covered in scars, sap leaking out punctures made to its trunk. But it is large, and it is powerful.

This is their tree. They may be damaged, but they are nothing if not strong.

Maybe there are some side characters who try to talk them out of it? Like a friend? Because no one deserves to go through that alone.

In The Honest Truth (great book), the main character runs away with his dog, so he has a companion but is still free from authority
