waffles was sick and recovering from surgery so I cleared my desk and put her pink blanket up there so she could sleep comfortably and I could keep an eye on her while at my PC. however while she's still recovering she's doing a lot better now and I fear she's grown far too accustomed to this. look at her.

People act like I'm just being an asshole but man the whole reason I'm so anal about hating gambling mechanics is because I've been down that road and lost a ton of money on games I just stopped playing eventually anyway and it SUCKS and the more you learn about dark pattern design the more you realize that this entire corner of the game industry is just fully focused on screwing vulnerable people out of their money and it's just evil, plain and simple. #i see gambling games so similarly to vaping#my grandma got into slots games as a form of harm reduction for her gambling addiction#(bc otherwise she'd go to the pokies and spend a bunch of money.)#she has in app purchases off so she gets the dopamine hit without the actual financial harm#and that is how a lot of these specific games are marketed#the problem is that they're still deeply predatory in design.#my grandma has someone who is able to be in the room with her and tell her not to turn purchases back on#a lot of people do not have this#and now that all these games are out there kids are picking them up for fun#just like what happened with vaping#it has uses in harm reduction for severe addicts but that's not because the game is trying not to take your money#it's helps by removing the addict from the space that enables the harm (in my gma's case - the pokies -> her lounge at home)#but for people who are totally new to gambling... it doesnt serve to break any old associations#only create new ones#anyway this has been my random soapbox
