I will literally never get people who say that c!wilbur was manipulative in pogtopia, because by definition, manipulation means using someones emotions in order to get what you want. Quackity and dream are an example of two characters who are adept at this. (but are on entirely different levels in terms of how harmful their wants are) Quackity, for example, wants people to need Las Nevadas, thus he plays into their fears and uses it to draw them in. Dream, on the other hand, wants to hurt Tommy specifically and thus uses everyone's anger at his actions to redirect it at Tommy and isolate him from any sort of friends or support group. Now, what did wilbur want?

Well that's the thing- he didn't really want anything besides his own death.

He'd already given up on gaining back respect from his former citizens pretty early on. The walls being torn down by his own son and protege was the death of the lmanburg he knew and loved and thus he didn't want that either. He wanted to be loved and have support, but he felt like he didn't deserve it. He wanted his family and friends to be safe but gave up on that as soon as tubbo got executed. Why manipulate someone if you have no goal or want? How can you manipulate someone without an end goal in mind? It's easier to think wilbur was being manipulative in pogtopia in order to hurt Tommy than to think that maybe he was just... an asshole. An incredibly traumatized asshole lashing out at anyone and everyone because not only does he believe he isn't worth saving but also because he doesn't trust the hands reaching out to save him. But an asshole, nonetheless.

Sometimes there is no overarching plot to end the world. Sometimes people are fucked up and bring everyone around them down in their self destruction. Sometimes the word "manipulation" is overused and no one actually knows what the fuck it means. Hell, I could be called manipulative for using this tone of voice in my writing in order to persuade you into not calling c!wilbur manipulative anymore. But that's not really the focus of this post. The point I'm trying to get across is this:

Sometimes people just really, really, want to die.
