in light of Trump's inauguration speech declaring multiple national emergencies that require him to take god-knows-what executive actions immediately, I'd like to remember this chapter of "On Tyranny" by Timothy Snyder:

i wrote an interactive poem for my girlfriend in 3 parts. she said you need to read it.

Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!

that man went on live television and talked about how poc are eating the cats and dogs, aliens conducting trans operations. he is a convicted felon. of 34 cases. he is a rapist. he proposed project 2025 which strips away basic rights from everyone except cis-het white men and he still had 51% popularity votes. that should anger you. that should be focus of the collective rage and disgust, not your fellow queer and poc acquaintances. please.

the social norm of “its your ethical responsibility to be constantly aware of, and angry about, every bad thing happening in the world at all times, even if you can’t possibly do anything about it” is possibly the best way I can imagine to create burnout and cynicism and depression in a population, so good job guys

This is why "eat the rich" is not a violent statement. Rich people literally kill others for their own profits. Any violence against rich people who do this is self defense.

This is also one of the many reasons why there are zero good cops. The nicest cop in existence would arrest someone for stealing to survive but would not arrest these greedy employers for killing for profit.
