Preach
So my overall thoughts on the story for MK1 are below.
This is the best story since MK9 and Armageddon. MK9 is still my personal favorite but I absolutely love what they did with the characters in this game. It's not just a reboot, it feels like a proper re-imagining of the MK universe as a whole.
I love how Reptile, Baraka, and Ermac aren't just henchmen anymore. I love that they feel like their own characters and have personal stories and proper motivations. I especially thought what they did with Ermac and Jerrod was a really cool idea!
I'm also really happy that the game wasn't so special forces centered. That was a big problem with MKX and MK11. I'm really glad that Outworld finally gets a proper time to shine. Sindel and Mileena are especially given more spotlight and I love what they did with the two of them!
Khameleon is only seen in the background at times in the story and she's also a kameo enemy which makes me believe she'll eventually be added as apart of the DLC kameo's that have been mentioned.
I loved Kuai Liang as Scorpion. I also really enjoyed that we got a Cyrax and Sektor mention! It seems that at this point in the story, Cyrax and Sektor are still humans. I'm very interested to see them in the future in this new timeline.
Bi-Han betraying his brother was pretty predictable. I was kinda hoping we'd get him as a good guy finally or maybe some sort of redemption arc, but I'm honestly fine with him being a villain.
I wish Kung Lao and Kitana got a bit more spotlight but I understand that the writers had limited time to give each character a proper story. But with that being said, the Kenshi and Johnny Cage dynamic was amazing and I absolutely loved the scene where Johnny gives Sento to Kenshi.
Also can we talk about how far the character of Johnny has come? He's legitimately just such an amazing character in this game and you just can't help but fall in love with him.
Young Raiden was handled very well. I adored how sweet he was, especially when he first speaks with Sindel. He's very humble, kind, and I adored when he attempted to help General Shao up after defeating him in the tournament.
I never thought Kronika was truly Kronika in the game and I was correct! Unlike others I wasn't expecting an Onaga boss fight. In fact, I have no idea why people expected Onaga to be in this game in the first place? He just wouldn't really fit anywhere and I think he's better used elsewhere.
Shang Tsung is at his best in this game as well. The voice actor for him is amazing and he's very sassy which I love.
Mileena becoming Empress is fucking awesome and I absolutely adore her in this game. Also love that she and Tanya are together!
Also the nostalgic moments of certain characters repeating lines from past games made me smile like a dork.
And that final chapter... OH MY GOD!!! When it panned up to show a Pyramid and hundreds of fighters surrounding it... and then the title reveal of the chapter being ARMAGEDDON?? You should of heard me scream with excitement. And then the "CHOOSE YOUR FINAL WARRIOR" text just got me so fucking hyped.
A bit disappointed that there wasn't a proper final boss but, I honestly never liked fighting the overpowered ridiculous boss fights like MK9 Shao Kahn, Armageddon Blaze, and MK11 Kronika. Those fights always required you to cheese them and I just was more annoyed by them than actually having fun.
All in all, this story was amazing and I loved it. I have some minor issues with it but I'm very excited for the future of MK. I'm also interested if we'll be getting a story expansion for MK1 like we did with Aftermath?

Having a blast seeing ppl overreacting to the changes made to Hanzo,Kuai,Smoke and Harumi. They’re being so colorful with their language and some are quitting the mk fandom as a whole, it’s honestly entertaining.
My two cents? Loved MK1 immensely, best Mortal Kombat story ever(Not that NRS or Midway ever set a high bar). Im probably not caring much abt the whole child hanzo thing cause I never cared or liked Subscorp or subsmoke and honestly shipping them always felt wrong to me, they’re bonds feel wayyyy too brotherly for comfort. Im glad harumi’s gonna be an actual character now instead of being the woman that’s always fridged to Hanzo can go on his Kratos grind. The lin kuei have always been the part of mk i took the most interest in and boy did Mk1 deliver, solid 9.5/10 (-0.5 for ot making smoke playable in the storymode. I would’ve taken away another half point for making bi-han evil but im confident he’ll get a redemption arc. Let nrs COOK)
