what really sucks about jackieshauna is that realistically, they were never meant to be 'Jackie haunts Shauna years later because that's how deep their love was.'

as much as I hate to admit it, they would've made a terrible couple. Little Miss 'I don't know how to communicate' and Little Miss 'Why didn't you tell me' would've been the couple that's head over heels for each other for exactly two weeks and then breakup.

in a normal universe, they would've been that one homoerotic girl best friend relationship that every sapphic girl has as their awakening and eventually fallen apart— presumably when Shauna inevitably chose to go to Brown instead of Rutgers. then maybe, they'd reconnect years later, as better people and then date— or both have separate partners who can laugh with them about how intense they were at 17.

they were supposed to be the ones who opened each other to love, not haunt each other for the rest of their lives.

they never got that because Jackie died loving Shauna and the part of Shauna that could love properly died with her. Jackie dying is what deepened Shauna's love for her— absence makes the heart grow fonder.

if she never died in the snow that day, if the crash never happened, I truly believe that they would've fallen apart and remembered each other with fondness as their first loves but move on and find their actual perfect halves— or fit each other perfectly when they grew as people.
