If Earth had Saturn’s Rings

From Washington, D.C., the rings would only fill a portion of the sky, but appear striking nonetheless. Here, we see them at sunrise.

From Guatemala, only 14 degrees above the equator, the rings would begin to stretch across the horizon. Their reflected light would make the moon much brighter.

From Earth’s equator, Saturn’s rings would be viewed edge-on, appearing as a thin, bright line bisecting the sky.

At the March and September equinoxes, the Sun would be positioned directly over the rings, casting a dramatic shadow at the equator.

At midnight at the Tropic of Capricorn, which sits at 23 degrees south latitude, the Earth casts a shadow over the middle of the rings, while the outer portions remain lit.

… that many podcasters now debate on whether to use “Kanera” or “Spacemarried” when referring to Kanan and Hera.

And they no longer debate whether these two were “an item”.

They have accepted that as a fact.

Hera in A New Dawn

So I had a really interesting conversation with @worriedaboutmyfern after her latest masterpiece First Flight regarding Hera.

In short, we had differing headcanons on how Hera would treat Kanan when they first start out together on the Ghost.

To summarize my view:

My headcanon is that Hera would be more open with Kanan as a friend and crew mate. Hera is still the super driven, do-good-in-the-galaxy superstar we know her to be, but over the course of the novel she comes to like and trust Kanan. That’s not to say she would respond to his advances right away, rather she’s amused by it but has other priorities right now.

I believe that she’d be happy to leave their relationship vague and open-ended. She has set goals, and if someone comes along that can keep up and is useful in achieving them, great, she’ll take it. If not, well that’s too bad, she’ll do it her own way. She’ll take any little advantage at this point to help in her fight and extra bonus for Kanan being a Jedi.

Fern’s headcanon:

I do not think that Hera would leave their relationship vague and informal, especially not since he’s explicitly brought on as *crew*. She’s employing him. That means (I really believe) she’d spell out what she’s offering and what her expectations are very explicitly. They’re not roommates. She’s the captain and he’s the crew.

I see her as focused, driven, and very reserved. She’s not warm and welcoming with Kanan in that book at all–she gives him the brush-off several times, and it’s basically just because he’s persistent (and *useful*) that she ends up accepting his company.
