Klance Fic Rec: Master List

Hello! So I've been heavily into the VLD/Klance fandom lately and I was thinking I should share some of my favorite fics. I've not included some of the more popular fics that I believe most people are reading already. Aside from that, I hope everyone keeps in mind that this list is just the opinion of one person. Have an open mind when clicking on this list, for both me and the authors that have written the fics! Thank you and enjoy.

Note #1: As S2 edges closer, I feel that I must disclaimer these fics as written post-S1, pre-S2.

A Shove Towards Love by General_Button Summary: A simple rescue mission turns into chaos when the species on the planet Novaria take an interest in the lives of two of its paladins. Rec Notes: Soulbond fic that is not AU.

blaming space by venpest * Summary: In which Lance is sick of space and Keith is sick of fighting and both of them are more lonely than either cares to realize - because, by some unspoken rule, you shouldn’t kiss people you hate. Rec Notes: This fic is so nuanced in its writing, I’m in love.

“You shouldn’t go out to the sea at night,” their grandmother says. She’s in a rocking chair, old and creaky, her withered body settled with a shawl around her shoulders, wrinkled fingers gripping the edges of the arm rest. “Don’t risk it.”

“Risk what?” Shiro asks, eyes wide. He’s fourteen, just a young boy, on the cusp of maturity, arms wrapped around his younger brother as they sit before their grandmother.

His grandmother pauses for a while. “There is danger in the sea.”

daytime star by draconicwyvern Summary: 

Keith's neighbor across the balcony is annoying. And not just annoying — Lance is get-on-your-nerves, make-you-want-to-punch-a-wall annoying. So when Lance announces he's moving to Colorado, Keith finally feels as if the world is back to being just him and the night stars.

But things don't go as planned: the paper airplanes, the scent of coffee at 1:00 a.m., the words inscribed on Keith's neck, and the slow curl of a blue flame echoing in his chest. And maybe, just maybe —

— stars do exist in the day.

Depth Perception by Moami Summary: In which Lance has terrible perception for a lot of things, Pidge curses like a space sailor and doesn’t get paid enough, and Keith can’t tell French from Spanish or two unrequited crushes from one mutual one.

The Dreamer by zxrysky Summary: 

Lance isn't really afraid, or worried, or hesitant. Nah, he knows what his dreams are about, for those that he can remember at least, and they're all pretty good. He hasn't had a nightmare in ages. All the dreams he'll be recalling and re-experiencing will be nice comfortable dreams in a flower field or something. Maybe he'll find that one dream where he's trying to catch chickens in a farm and they all dog piled on him. Or that one dream where Hunk and he became the top in Iverson’s class, which made their commander’s face turn so sour Lance could've sworn he'd swallowed a lemon.

Dreamwalking will be a piece of cake....Or so he thinks.

drive me to distraction by freshia Summary: Where Keith is sort of kidnapped for a road-trip with Lance, and is sort of okay with it.

Driving Me Wild by arrafrost Summary: Keith and Lance aren't able to get more than a few minutes of alone time, sometimes less, and are always interrupted by their teammates whenever things start to progress in their relationship. They are more than a little frustrated and it's only a matter of time until one of them snaps. Rec Note: This fic had me in stitches.

the electric synthesized pop ballad of why keith can’t have nice things by kay_cricketed ** Summary: Keith can’t have nice things. That’s it. That’s the story. (Or, in which Keith slowly learns that sometimes the best family is the one you make, Pidge has strong feelings about peanuts, Lance has a secret but would’ve spoken up sooner if he’d known it would break Keith’s brain, Hunk is the actual best, and Shiro is just relieved he didn’t have to give anyone the Talk.) Rec Notes: A/B/O-verse. For a fic set in this universe, this is absolutely adorable and hilarious.

eyes wide to you with wonder by aknightley Summary: Keith doesn’t dislike his job, but he definitely dislikes Lance. Probably. Maybe. Rec Notes: Hilarious and ridiculously cute office AU. Sequel: you make me make bad decisions

excelsior by warmth Summary: “Onward and upward,” Lance says. “to greater glory.”

equations for a fallen body by csoru * Summary: Keith, Lance, an alien drug and an enclosed space, and what happens after. Rec Notes: The dialogue in this fic is some of the best I've seen in the fandom.

Far Away From Nothing by Ikira Summary: 

When Lance is the last of the paladins to be recovered after their separation through the corrupted wormhole, everyone is a little concerned for him, considering how much Lance likes to be around people. Surprisingly, Keith seems to be the most concerned of all.

But that concern quickly shifts to flustered preoccupation when Keith finally finds Lance and discovers that his time living on an uninhabited jungle planet have wrought some changes in the Blue Paladin. Some really nice changes. Turns out there are no barbers or hair stylists in the jungle, and Keith? Is unexpectedly okay with this. Really okay with this. Oh boy.

Rec Notes: I laughed more than I should have while reading this fic.

Fire & Ice by wolfgun Summary: In which Coran almost poisons the paladins, Lance is the first to discover his new powers, and Keith is the last.

Flirt Fiend by tylerproposey Summary: Based off a tumblr post that basically said: Shiro only elbowed Lance when he was flirting with Nyma, because he knows about Keith's crush on him and doesn't want to see his bro suffer. Also known as 5 times Shiro ruined Lance's flirting attempts, and the 1 time he didn't have to. Rec Notes: Hilarious! I love the shenanigans in this fic.

For Gold or Money by arkadianmouse Summary: 

Lance rose silently. “I’ll go.”

When a mysterious prince calls on his family for a companion, Lance offers to take his sister's place. He doesn't realize the castle is home to a beastly prince with a dark secret. As he grows closer to the prince, he also betrays his trust, and is soon thrust into an intergalactic struggle to win back the love of his life.

Based on the fairy tale "East of the Sun, West of the Moon" and still set in space.

Foundations by needchocolatenow * Summary: When Keith met Lance, it was over a briny sea. Rec Notes: One of the most original AU’s I’ve ever read in fandom.

Fragmented by darkgaaraluver Summary: In a world of soulmates, Lance drew the short straw. The indelible marks forever marked him inferior to his soulmate, and the people around him, what made it ever worse were the first words that pass Keith's lips...

Garden of Beginnings by needchocolatenow Summary: Hunk gets a criminal record, Pidge might have blackmail on Keith, and Shiro's wondering what happened to his shirt. Keith and Lance fall into each other's orbit and keeps falling.

ghost of a king by ashinan * Summary: During a routine recon mission turned ambush, Lance and Blue must take drastic measures to ensure their survival. The aftermath leaves Lance lost and dreaming, and the team helpless to the possibility that, without a guide, he won’t make it back. Rec Notes: I’m a sucker for hurt!Lance and this fic, without a doubt, hands it over in spades. It’s nicely written and hits all the right notes.

got got got it bad by kairiolette Summary: Keith acknowledges his feelings for Lance and promptly goes through the five stages of grief.

Have a Taste (I Want More) by songsofthespring Summary: Keith has a problem: he’s fallen in love with Lance. This is particularly troubling because he and Lance have been messing around in private, but Lance has made it obvious to Keith that this relationship is purely sexual. But Keith may not be able to hide his feelings from Lance for as long as he’d hoped. Otherwise known as that fic where Keith pines and Lance and Keith are stupid.

Heroes by battleshidge Summary: 

“My mom always hated the Garrison and what we were supposed to do there. I never got it. How can you despise the idea of being a hero?” Lance laughed a little here, dryly. “But I think I understand now.”

He took a shuddering breath.

“Because heroes aren’t meant to survive,” he choked, and then buried his face as the tears started falling again.

Honey & Lemon by DylanOhbrien Summary: Keith has one rule: keep any interaction with a customer terse and professional. It’s a rule he’s strictly followed since he’s started working at Shiro’s shop. Then Lance walks through the door and Keith thows professionalism right out the window, along with any semblance of dignity he had left.

i can't help but want by aknightley Summary: Lance deals with the aftermath of being sucked into a black hole and stranded on an alien planet.

“Uh,” Pidge said, “Lance? Buddy? What’s the deal?”

“That’s Lance?” Hunk shouted, somehow still ramming ships away from the castle; Keith felt like bubbles were bursting in his head, effervescent pops of giddy fear mixed with conviction. Lance, he thought, Lance feels like this. “Thank God, I thought I was going crazy for a second.”

Rec Notes: I love this fic so much asldawieralgsakl!!! And if you can't tell, I have a huge boner for aknightley's fics. They're all so amazing. A+, 10/10, GOLD STAR quality fics.

Now, here’s the thing. Lance is crushing on Allura with her pretty eyes, dark skin, sweet smile and the way she can kill you if she wants to because Allura is scary and dangerous, which is hot.

But Keith is scary and dangerous as well, with pale skin and a challenging smirk on his face and he’s much more willing to hold his knife to Lance’s neck and make his blood run hot, which makes Lance crush really fucking hard on Keith. It’s a horrifying thought that he’d ever choose Keith over Allura, but the day has come, it’s probably Doomsday or something, and Lance is horribly attracted to Keith and his stupid hair and his infuriating smile. And those muscles, goddamn.

Laws of Gravity need not apply by Yuu_chi Summary: It's a difficult thing to go from secretly crushing on your school rival at a distance to sharing a tentative psychic connection with him, an audience of three other people, and an assorted collection of sentient machines. Harder still to watch that crush come to be something more.

Let The Water Lead Us Home by LynnLarsh Summary: Lance finds himself stuck in a simulation and Keith is determined to get him out.

Like Devo by surveycorpsjean Summary: As rival jammers, they’re rough, skating around the rink, giving bruises, bloody noses, broken ribs and snapped fingers-But when the cops show up, Keith grabs his hand and yanks Lance into the storm drain. And thats how they start dating.

Making the Most of the Night by saezutte Summary: Having sex with Keith in order to secure an alliance with an alien species wasn’t how Lance expected to lose his virginity, but it wasn’t the worst way for it to go. (Until afterwards, of course, when it all goes wrong and Keith won’t speak to him. Not that Lance has any idea why. Or why it bothers him so much.)

Straight Into Your Arms by morvish Summary: 5 times Lance went straight into Keith's arms, and 1 time Keith went straight into Lance's.

ten things i hate about you by nikkiRA Summary: Neither of them are particularly good at this, so they each say hate when they both mean love.

This House Unfinished by boyghosts *** Summary: Lance keeps losing the things he’s built. Then there’s Keith. Rec Notes: My favorite fic in the fandom thus far. This is the kind of fic where after you finish, you have to take a seat back and process what you’ve just read. The writing is wonderful and layered and the content just stays with you after you’re done. Beautiful fic all around.

thread our way through a string of stars by steelthighsvoideyes Summary: Lance is a humble astrophysics student trying to conduct research, which turns out to be a bit difficult to do when he finds a strange guy sitting in his customary research spot. A strange guy looking for aliens, no less. Lance isn't going to stand for this.

Summary: When Tony Stark takes a bullet intended for Steve Rogers, he wakes up in a world entirely peopled by alternate incarnations of everyone's favorite Star-Spangled Man.Welcome to Stevechester, Population: Steve

Why: Minor errors aside, this fic was incredibly charming. It reads funny and light, fluid, and most of all, I feel like the author had incredible fun writing this and it translates very well into the fic. Definitely give this a read if you haven’t already!

Summary: He's met Toni Stark. He's seen the best that this century has to offer, dolled up in impenetrable sunglasses and a lipstick-stained grin, and he knows that this world isn't going to save itself.

Why: A mix of podfic and fic, this was done wonderfully. It’s fun and an absolute joy to read and listen to.

Why: Teyke has recently emerged as one of my favorite underrated authors of the fandom. Their ability for plot is greatly showcased in this fic and their writing--as always--is solid and worth a read.

Pairing: Makoto/Haruka

Summary: Even with all of Tokyo’s new acquaintances, classmates, near-strangers, and neighbors, Haruka and Makoto will choose each other.

Why: Oh, my god. The writing in this fic is, first of all, sublime. It’s beautiful and touching and this fic made me feel ALL THE FEELS EVER. It is a slow moving piece about Haruka and Makoto in Tokyo; it’s half introspection and half character growth and reading this is like watching a master painter at work. Except here, tothemoon is a masterful writer and every word in their text pulls its weight to crafting another piece of the full picture. I cannot commend their writing enough, their use of dictation is beautiful without pretentions, their characters written so well that I gobbled up any and everything they threw at me. I highly recommend this fic; this is definitely one of my favorites of the fandom.

Fandom: Neon Genesis Evangelion

Pairing: Kaworu/Shinji

Summary: Shinji closed his eyes and listened, imagining the kind of person that sat at the seat of the piano.

Why: This fic is beautiful, for a lack of another word. The style of writing is heartbreaking and evokes such a strong resonance with the Evangelion TV show that I was hanging on to every word and in near tears by the end.

Pairing: Makoto/Haruka

Summary: Haruka and Makoto have known they were truemates since childhood. Things were so natural between them that Haru hardly even thought about it; that is, until Makoto started talking to Kisumi again.

Why: I generally do not like a lot of the Omega-verse fics that I read, but this one is an exception. It’s sweet, it’s cute, and the smut is hot. I love the way ghostly writes Haru here, he is such an adorable dummy and Makoto is also an adorable idiot. These types of fluffy, sexy fics are the kind I live for. Read it if you haven’t read it yet!

Pairing: Tony Stark/Steve Rogers

Summary: What do you do when the Roman Empire you were raised to love consigns you to the sands of the arena? Antonius is a prince of the Dacians, captured in war and sold as a gladiator. He yearns for his freedom. Stephanos -- the last living centaur -- is his fellow slave and trainer. Centuries old, disillusioned by a Rome that has become a shadow of itself, Stephanos has all but given up on life... until he meets Antonius, and both of their lives are forever changed.

Why: Wow-ee. It’s been a long while since I’ve read anything in the Avengers fandom, but I was quite blown away by this fic. The writing is solid, the characterization is great, and the ending. Oh my god, the ending. It made me crave more fics in this universe. Overall, I’m glad to have taken a chance on this fic because it reminded me of everything that I enjoyed in this fandom and this pairing. Also, historical Rome! You can tell that the author did research into the topic and I applaud them for that. This fic is just begging you to read it and it delivers so well on all levels mentally, emotionally...physically...It was such a ride and a great investment. Definitely a recent favorite for me from this fandom.

Fandom: The Hobbit

Pairing: Fili/Kili

Summary: When it is prophesied that Kili's heart has the power to grant immortality, Thror plots to murder the young prince...but there is another prince who would give his life to prevent this. A Snow White story.

Why: Personally, I enjoyed reading this. Sometimes, I'll encounter fics where writers try to emulate the written style of Tolkien or even the spoken dialogues from the movie, but they start to break away from it and put in "modernisms." Anath_Tsurugi never breaks language during this fic, which helps with the immersion. Also, if you're not a fan of mpreg or voyeurism, feel free to steer clear of this fic. Overall, while a good and lasting read (20k!), YMMV.

Pairing: Fili/Kili

Summary: Kili falls in love and everything after is the crumbling of trepidation in its wake.

Why: Damn, this is beautifully written. I rather like Kili's vulnerability in this fic; I normally prefer him with a harsher edge, but melfice makes the angle work for her. Her Fili is also great and she writes tension and angst very well. An absolutely heart wrenching fic to read.

Summary: Fili and Kili have their first adventure in the world of Men.

Why: Genderbend!Fili! What a wonderful insight into how their relationship and dynamics are with Fili being female. I love this fic because you'd think their interactions and characters would change, but it hasn't, not really; Fili is still recognizably Fili and Kili is Kili. Great fic. I quite enjoyed reading this and wished there was more at the end.

Pairing: Fili/Kili

Summary: Fili manifested the Aching much younger than other dwarves his generation did. The first time he felt it, it had only been a strange itching at his chest and he had paid it no heed, returning to his studies while Kili lounged next to him, bored. The next time he felt it—before dinnertime over a week later—he had doubled over in pain, feeling like an arrow had pierced his heart.

Why: An unique twist to the soulmate premise. Overall, it's a cute, fluffy fic that really made me smile. Empirium's one-shots tend to do that to me.

Why: Can I just say: jealous!Kili + top!Fili + really hot smut. Because if that doesn't convince you to read, then...I can't help you.

Summary: Kili grows up without his brother, and there's always something missing. 

Why: Oh my god, this fic is heartwrenching. Or, in the words of tumblr: "MY FEELS!" There's just something about the way that sospes writes that tinges her work with a bittersweet sense about it and it just chips away at your heart as you read. If you haven't read this fic by sospes yet, I highly encourage you to do so!
