what kind of stuff do you do at your day center

we do a lot of things. it is focussed a lot on creative things. we do lots of arts and crafts, baking, gardening, cooking, board games, watch DVDs. my favourite things to do there are painting and learning new board games

i love u aac users that get overwhelmed by low tech aac

i love u full time users that struggle to use aac

i love u ppl that have been using aac for years, or grew up using aac, that still struggle to use aac

i love you aac users with multiple disabilities that make it harder to use (blind/visually impaired, mobility issues, memory issues, etc)

i love you ppl that have aac on smallest or small grid size and still get overwhelmed/ frustrated

its not morally bad to have a hard time using aac, you are not a failure or bad person either. You are not alone in your struggle and your experiences and your voice should be heard within aac communities.

Early diagnosis of a disability or illness can and often does result in specific kinds of social, familial, and medical abuse. Early diagnosis is not always (or usually) indicative of how caring or abusive the caretakers of the child may be or what their home and school life (or lack thereof) looks like. This is not a privilege and should never be treated as such.

Late diagnosis isn't always indicative of a person more able-bodied than someone who was diagnosed early - lack of access to medical care due to poverty or severe abuse and neglect can and often does produce disabled adults who have found ways to mask away or cope with severe symptoms in different ways than those diagnosed early do (though early dxers may mask in ways too!) This is not a privilege and should never be treated as such.

oh. whats that? u cant ? or u would but ppl r always being rude or making a big deal out of it or wont leave u alone or u dont have access to aac or aac is slower than speech or ppl make weird assumptions about u or-

so then u dont want to be nonverbal. u dont want to deal with what it is actually like to be nonverbal and everything negative that comes with it.

u want to have a choice not to speak, u want oral speech to not be seen as superior so you can communicate comfortably, u want better aac or better access to aac. and thats perfectly reasonable and good actually !! i want that too. but thats not the same thing as being nonverbal. so please dear god stop phrasing it like that.

me go through periodic panics thinking that tobii dynavox will decide to not let people who make one time purchase have speech output anymore. this because the switch to subscription was so sudden and unfair. make me very scared. me rely on using td snap daily and have perfect set up for me. me also sad that anyone at all is forced to do subscription for voice. so unfair
