My name is Annette McKinney and I am a full time student at the University of Florida and this blog is for my class MMC2100. I am also a certified personal fitness trainer, a nutrition specialist and a Zumba Instructor. I have been enrolled in school almost five years and in that time, I have neglected to maintain my own personal fitness goals and healthy lifestyle. During this time of quarantine from COVID-19, we all must do what it takes to get and stay healthy. Here are some suggestions for maintaining your health.

As this ending time for class and the school year approaches, I have learned so many skills that I can use in the PR industry and to my perspective employers. These newly acquired skills relating to PR work will enable me to gain experience as I am faced with new challenges and tasks of the public relations industry I have learned new skills such as creating a website for clients, writing press releases, marketing and advertising for businesses, managing social media, and reviewing Google Analytics, writing crisis plans, making contact list, writing stories, writing blogs, writing articles, creating and publishing press kits, critiquing my mistakes in writing and editing videos for publishing. I am so grateful to the many professors that have given me the tools I needed to build these skills. I am especially grateful to Dr. Dobry for offering feedback on assignments turned in. I now have the tools skills and knowledge to be successful in whatever position I obtain in the PR industry. I was able to demonstrate these new skills to Dr. Dobry when I handed my assignments in and received feedback that would enable improvisions. As I explained what I learned to my friends, their expression of surprise confirmed I had many new skills that I am anxious to put to work real soon. I am confident that the material and work that I have obtained so far will be a big asset for me and the team that I will work with. McKinney Communications is a service offered by me to clients that are looking for branding or rebranding, social media managing, creating a business website and numerous other services that require a professional touch. I am confident in my ability to do the best for any client I work with and help them and their business be even more successful through my services.

Online Media Room
Annette McKinney
My first goal for my class at Ful Sail, Online Media Room, was to know what to look for when developing digital media for an organization, along with the lessons in our class and assignments completed, I learned a lot about putting together successful elements and the importance of establishing, reaching, and interacting with the target audience through the right content. I learned that the content and elements that I create should be relevant to their site, easy to find and reflect their vision for the company.
My second goal for this class was to know how to manage social media and to create the content and goals for the success of the website and business. I have realized through the lessons given in this class, the importance of monitoring the social media platforms as every social media platform may not be the particularly appropriate platform for that company. If results of the analytics can show that the company’s social media platform performs better on some more than others, then a reassessment should be conducted and utilize the more successful platforms that are fitting for that company.
My third goal for my Online Media Room class was to lean how to update online media assets. According to IBM, “a Digital Asset Management efficiently stores, organizes manages, assesses, and distributes an organization’s digital assets (Digital Asset Management, n.d.).” ‘The media content would include any photos, videos or multimedia as well as podcasts (Digital Asset Management, n.d.).’ Through the many steps and stages that this class has advanced my skill, I have realized and value the knowledge to create, update and manage the online media for my clients. The digital asset management helps me to know how to produce an efficient and productive website that will drive traffic up to the company website and covert potential customers into customers.

Reputation Management Strategies
My first goal for this class was to know what analytics to report and how to do this. The true focus on this class was strategies of dealing with a crisis and the necessary plan to follow through with resolution. Though I am very familiar with analytics, I know very well how and what to look for upon analyzing reports of my client’s social media accounts and website on the SEO. I did learn how to put a plan together that can effectively keep all that are involved with a crisis inline. Policies and procedures delegates assigned persons to a task that would protect the company’s reputation from hearsay, slander, or negligence of addressing the current situation. Following the guidelines of a strategy plan is a sure way to minimize and prevent any fallacies that would be detrimental to the company’s image. After learning and practicing strategies for a potential crisis, I am now able to put together a plan should there ever be a crisis to take place. From the plan, steps are written out, naming assigned staff to tasks and listing the dos and don’ts to maximize effectiveness and resolution. Should I need to use these skills in the future with my new career, I will have the confidence to put a plan together that will safeguard the reputation of the company I work to represent. I really enjoyed putting the plan together that will enable my current client to be proactive in having preventive measures in place to avoid chaos and confusion or panic during a crisis. This class is an asset to my newly learned skills, and I am certain will provide a lot of guidance with the clients I will work for. Many what ifs could arise from a crisis, but if there is a plan to counteract that, everyone can remain a little calmer.

This post is for the class, Events Marketing and Production at Full Sail University. I set goals to learn a lot of things from this class like learning the responsibilities of a PR and how a PR supports events. Typically, you may have assistants help in the event production and the process of putting the event together. However, that is not always the case, such as with myself.
I do not have anyone that I could ask for assistance, as the staff at my client’s facility works several jobs besides working at the gym. They do not have any spare time. I have managed to create a webinar and put together informational slides that offers details of the event I am hosting. One of the posts for the event has already reached over 100 people and the registration begins May 31, 2021.
I am super excited to have learned these new skills and will work hard this week to get the word out and introduce this amazing facility so that participants entering the event can workout if they desire or use some of the amenities of the gym. My client is looking forward to the event and shares the expectations of the outcome of the event I have planned. I have a phenomenal professor who has supported my work and gave me sufficient feedback to succeed in the production of the event.

Toni King-Jenkins and Anissa Shakira Lipscomb came to watch me accomplish another level of achievement in my life. What a great day it was and when I wanted to break down and cry because I couldn't believe it was happening, God showed up and let me know all is well. Thank you and much love to these two for supporting me. I wish they allowed more people to attend but we we were fortunate to have this ceremony. To God be the glory! https://www.instagram.com/p/COra4VHNb75_kLR_OxvYzUyUFobexiNyAZo-4g0/?igshid=ft3itbs8qfyj

Mastery Journal
Media Relations-Full Sail University
Annette McKinney
My number one goal for Media Relations which is my current class, was to obtain a vision as a leader. As the class progressed and I was faced with different tasks, I have a deeper sense of high expectations for myself and the achievements that will help me become a leader. Each week, I was faced with new and exciting assignments that caused me to step put of my comfort zone and gain the ability to accomplish and complete something new I had learned. I have obtained this by my unending diligence and perseverance to stay focused to my commitment and dream, so that I can utilize the newly learned wisdom and experience in my near future career.
Though media is viewed by society as sometimes negative and rarely positive, it is up to me to make that change that I want to see. This change starts with how tell a story. I have lived that statement and now put it in practice by gaining new ground becoming a Public Relations specialist. Like everyone else viewing media and the news, it is not what you say sometimes, but how you say it. Many times, I will be faced with circumstances that will call for a reaction, however, I must remain professional in my thoughts and ethical in my practices to deliver the best possible stories to the world.
I will not stop learning or practicing what I have obtained from Media Relations class, because my skills are getting sharpened, for example with the Media kit that I had to put together for a class assignment. There are positive strides I wish to make for media, and I realize that I will be having to be part one of those links to form a more positive view of everything that Public Relations represents.

Beginning and Maintaining Fitness at Home

According to the WHO(World Health Organization), being sedentary is one of the leading causes of death globally. Our immune system can be susceptible to sickness and disease as a result of being inactive. With every business shutting down due to COVID-19, more and more people are staying at home, resulting in decreased levels of physical activity.
Incorporating healthier eating options for those snack attacks and boring moments as we fill our day with productive choices, can be a persistent and consistent battle. Cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes are some of the noncommunicable diseases associated with decreased inactivity.
The WHO defines physical activity as” any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that require energy expenditure.” Working out at home does not require equipment all the time and there are numerous ways to perform exercises using your own bodyweight.
Performing normal household chores can be considered physical activity, for example, mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, or push mowing the lawn. At any time during your day, you can do pushups while waiting for food to cook or doing dips on the edge of the sofa while watching t.v.
While the overall big picture of doing 30 minutes of exercise at one time can seem overwhelming, smaller increments of maybe 10-minute sessions can accomplish the goal too, depending on your fitness level. The New York Times suggests walking up and down the stairs at your house or apartment building is a great way to get some cardio activity.
Physical activity relieves built-up stress and tension that can be brought on by the reality of being quarantined and coping with the restrictions of daily travel to work, school, and stores. Engaged and increased activity also boosts the endorphins that can help relax and promote good mental health.

Online apps for workouts during quarantine
To maintain our routine schedule while under quarantine at home, it is important to know the options and resources available for your convenience. Online and virtual fitness classes are extremely popular right now due to gum closures.
There are downloadable apps and recorded and livestream classes available to use anytime, anywhere. Walking up and down the stairs at your house or apartment or house is a great source of cardiovascular activity.
Engaging in physical activity helps to relieve some of the stress and tension brought on by being isolated. Nearly all classes taken at your local gym can also be taken online and on phone apps such as Zumba, Yoga and Full body routines.
Almost nearly all fitness facilities offer free workouts to members as well s nonmembers. Crunch, YMCA, Planet Fitness, L.A. Fitness and Orangetheory are just a few of the gyms offering free workouts online streamed live and recorded on YouTube and Facebook. Our mobile devices can conveniently travel anywhere so going outside and grabbing some sunshine while working out is a great benefit to our health.

Choosing Healthy Food In Quarantine

Nutrition is especially important in remaining healthy during COVID-19. Make minimal trips to the grocery store during this time of isolation.
Be prepared to shop with a list and go by the list to avoid spending unnecessary time in the store. Try to steer clear of high calorie, high sodium items like chips, soda and cookies.
These items should be special treats and not eaten as part of your daily nutritional intake. Remember we are trying to remain healthy by feeding our bodies foods that are nutrient dense and essential to our well-being.
Try to opt for the whole grain breads, rice and pasta, fresh fruits an vegetables, meats such as : turkey, fish and chicken. Canned goods containing these options can be hard to find especially now, so buying fresh and freezing items can be considered.
Just as we get physically active, we should also eat right to boost the immune system. Eating whole grain and green vegetables is optimum for healthy maintenance.
Three of the foods that are very beneficial to the body providing minerals, vitamins and antioxidants are olive oil, tomatoes and dark green vegetables. the photo above includes the ingredients: baked chicken, protein pasta, tomatoes, zucchini and tomatoes. protein pasta is a good substitute for not getting enough protein in your daily intake.

Internet Resources for Workouts

Online classes give the instructor and participants access to the class as they are livestreamed and recorded and can be watched anytime. Virtual classes will have the instructor in the classroom online with them.
During the workout sessions, the instructor coaches and addresses questions or concerns from the participants. Fitness experts are transitioning to teaching live classes because it is almost the same as physically being in class with all your clients.
CNBC reports there are over 30,000 members shaped base in the U.S. Currently all fitness facilities are closed and are offering free online workouts to members and nonmembers.
In case you are not familiar with Zoom, it is also used to conduct meetings and office hours for businesses as well as college classes. Zoom allows the screen to be shared by multiple people at one time.
This is one of the advantages and benefits to the participants and the instructors because everyone can share the screen and you can see people from other states and cities right in the same classroom as you. So for times when you wanted to go to class with a friend and couldn’t quite fit it into each others schedule, now you can invite one another to go to a class to workout together.

Elements of Staying Healthy

The above photo demonstrates an incline pushup. This is the modified versions of a regular pushup. Minimal equipment is required for working out anytime. Following an instructor or trainer online can direct our routines and bring us the most benefits.
If one should choose to workout using fitness equipment, it is recommended to use two different dumbbells, a resistance band, a stability ball and a medicine ball. There are many variations of use with this equipment and the resources are limitless.
An example of using the stability ball is sitting on the ball facing a wall with feet on the floor and approximately three feet from the wall. Lie back on the ball and press your lower back into the ball as you come up. These are crunches that will engage your core and build strength in your abdominal area.
We must maintain our mental and physical health while we are quarantined but vigorous exercises that you perform in a workout routine at your local gym should not be the focus of maintaining your exercise at home. Though our daily routines have been momentarily interrupted, we should redirect our insights on staying healthy and in-taking the proper amount of nutrition.
Restrictions have not been placed on going outside, so take that 15-minute walk or jog or jump rope in the yard. Times of rest between workouts are encouraged to prevent over training and allows muscles to recover from being worked.
Our immune system benefits from regular exercise because it helps to destroy pathogens that could cause infection. Three elements of maintaining our health during COVID-19 is: exercise, healthy eating and enough rest.

Lake Desoto

Pictured here is Lake Desoto in central downtown Lake City. Muskets have been found here from one of the largest battles of the Civil War called ‘The Battle of Olustee.’ Lake Desoto has a circumference of 1496 yards and is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and local businesses. The trail that encircles the lake accommodates walkers, runners, and bicyclists. Fishing is also permitted at Lake Desoto and is a favorite relaxing activity for locals and visitors. There are lots of events that take place here such as the Battle of Olustee Festival, weddings, birthday parties, and receptions.

There are several roads available for access to Lake Desoto. This entrance shown here is coming from US Highway 90 from the east or the west. In the background to the far right of the photo is Lake Shore Hospital of Lake City and to the far left is a pavilion used for events, parties and special occasions.

Here in this photo, is another entrance at the rear of the Columbia County Courthouse. The faint yellow line on the road is a lane for walkers, runners, and bicyclists. The monument you see pictured here is a memorial dedicated to first responders who lost their lives saving others.

The ducks shown above are called Muscovy ducks. They are migrants from Mexico and Central America. Their natural habitats are lakes and swampy areas such as around Lake Desoto. The red mask around their face is called caruncles which protect them when they are searching for food in the mud. I go to Lake Desoto daily and notice that most of the ducks that are around the lake are Muscovy’s. Occasionally there are some Mallards.

The Muscovy’s are the largest breed of ducks here at Lake Desoto and occasionally, as I witnessed today when I took my daily walk, that there are residents close by, who are protective of these ducks who take care of them, making sure they get bathed and fed. Feeding the ducks bread is discouraged as they like to eat insects, spiders, and fish.
I have discovered there are many things to see and do at Lake Desoto. I take breaks here often and regain my peace for tranquil moments in the middle of a busy day.
