It hadn’t been expected by any means, but it seemed his embrace was exactly what the young demigoddess needed in that moment. The reaction was automatic, her entire form relaxing as she leaned into him, head resting on his shoulder. “Could I maybe borrow some clothes?” Cassie mumbled against him after a moment of silence, their closeness making her intensely aware of the fact she wore only a towel.
Tim hummed softly as he embraced her until her request reached his ears. And then he suddenly felt anxious and embarrassed.”Oh, yes.” Releasing her, he stepped back and scratched at the back of his head. “Yes of course you can. I think I had some of your stuff washed after our last patrol? Should be in my closet on a shelf. If not, help yourself to any of my stuff. Sorry if you end up swimming in it.”

“I don’t need to even out. I need…I need…fuck, I don’t even know what I need,” she breathed. She didn’t cry too much, and she wasn’t a big puker…but this certainly had her shaken. Was this what her new life in Gotham would be like? It certainly left her with questions regarding Tim’s upbringing in the city. “You can keep my suit to take samples from. The thing is covered.”
As Cassie unraveled a little bit more trying to put her thoughts together, Tim rose from he seat and crossed the room as she finished promising her suit for him to test. However, those words were ignored as he stepped close and wrapped his arms around her. She was a meta, and could throw him through the skylight if she wanted, but he still coiled his arms around her and held her to him. Maybe he misread the look in her eyes, but he felt for certain that she needed a hug.

Usually, when Tim starts laying out all possible logical reasons of certain things that would prove her wrong, Stephanie would tune it out. In this scenario, however, Steph couldn’t stop listening. It was probably just her guilt. She should be grateful because Tim was helping her even if he had probably better things to do. “I’m sorry.” She said in a low, embarrassed voice. “I’m just making sure, you know.” She looked at their hands when she squeezed it before looking up with a happy grin as he gave her positive reinforcement. “You really think so? You really think I am improving?”
Tim lingered for a moment before letting his hand flit away to his side as his eyes brightened. “Yeah, I really do. We live in a world where flying men can lift trains, but I’m still amazed what a normal human can do when they put themselves to task of training up. And you’ve done a great job. I’m really impressed.”

TIMOTHY DRAKE
As Tim tapped out, her eyes furrowed in confusion but she kept her hold of him, expecting for him to make a move to get out it. When he didn’t, she pouted as she released him then moved a few feet away from him just in case he decided to trick him and counter attack. “Okay, did you go easy on me, Timothy?” She asks him with her eyes narrowed at his direction. “I told you not to go easy on me.”
“Steph, you know as much as anyone that I’m a man of my word. I didn’t go easy. You should know by now that a fight isn’t just one plus one equals two. There are numerous variables. Is the other person tired? Were they up all night working? Did they just crush a workout to keep their perfectly sculpted physique? All of these can give someone an edge over the other. Just like Bruce taught me, I’ll teach you.” As he stood he stepped forward to her and gave her hand a squeeze. “You’re training is progressing faster than you think it is. Don’t be so doubtful of your ability.”

“Tim, this isn’t a joke,” Cassie spat, clearly upset by the afternoon’s events. “This wasn’t some emotional outburst we’re talking about. This was a literal explosion. A person literally exploded. I was covered in the blood of a dead person who randomly exploded into hundreds of pieces.”
Leaning forward he placed his face in his hands and cradled it as he groaned. “I know this isn’t a joke Cass. I’m just trying to help you even out. Which obviously isn’t working. You told me no questions, but I wish you would have started with the fact you were wearing the blood of someone who spontaneously exploded before you washed his DNA down my bathroom drain.”

“You just need to be less predictable in your thinking,” Cassie told him, stepping out of the bathroom to finally face him. “Couch,” she ordered, pointing at the object and moving to take a seat on it. Only once he was beside her did she continue. “I don’t know exactly what happened. One minute I was trying to talk down a meta, and then I was covered in…” She trailed off, taking a breath. “They just sort of exploded. I don’t even know what triggered it.”
Tim slumped his shoulders in a heavy sigh of defeat at her words. “Fiiiiine.” he said dramatically a she turned heel and headed into the living room, plopping onto the couch and muting the tv he had been watching. Multiple live streams of news across the city and country. He hoped she wouldn’t notice. He had been chastised about being a workaholic from her before. “Well did you tell them to calm down? Cause that always works.” He said with a sarcastic bite.

“You were thinking them,” Cassie shouted back over the water. She scrubbed at her hair, skin going pink from the effort to remove the bloody residue. Only once she was sure she was clean did she shut the shower off and exit the bathroom wrapped in a towel.
Tim rolled his eyes dramatically as he let his arms fall. “Well, if I’m going to be held accountable for my thoughts that’s hardly hair now isn’t it.” However, whatever he might have said in defense. She was certainly right that he did have questions he was thinking of. Damnit Cass.

Not hesitating, Cassie entered the penthouse and made a beeline towards the bathroom, shedding down to her underwear as she went. “I said no questions,” she repeated over her shoulder, sensing the several questions that must’ve been running through his mind given her current state. Only when she had the door closed did she remove her final layer of clothing. The hot water of the shower was a more than welcome embrace after what she’d just dealt with.
Tim held his arms wide dumbfounded after having closed the door. “Did I ask any questions? Well, besides that question.” He said as he picked up the clothes and took them to the laundry chute.

“Look, I really just want a shower. No questions.”
Tim blinked once. Twice. And then three times before it registered what he was actually looking at. Swinging the door wide. “You know the way.” He said as he did his best to not looked too concerned.

Cassie flinched at the simple touch, the recent case putting her on edge. As if to let him know it was alright, her hand moved up to rest atop his. “I think…I think I just need to go check in on my mom.” As distant as they’d most of her life, their attempts to come back together had her feeling protective and afraid. All she wanted was to know the woman was safe. “I’ll come by tomorrow and we can work on this. And my new lease,” she added, trying and failing at a lighter tone.
As her words came to a close he pulled his hand away. “Yeah, of course. Check on your mom. Tell her I said hey.” Reaching over he swiped away the images on the tablet to take it to the home screen. He threw her a bone on her attempt at a lighter tone. “You know you don’t have to sign a lease. I’m not doing to be some shitty landlord that is going to bind you up with legality. At least, I would hope you trust me enough not to.”

“It’s sick,” she spat, fully turning from the screen and even putting a few feet of distance between herself and the images. Cassie had seen a lot in her time as Teen Titan, but nothing even came close to what tonight had brought them. It sent a shiver up her spine, and she could practically feel her blood boiling with the fire to find whoever had done this. “We have to find them. I don’t care what it takes.”
He could sense her tension and discomfort. You could see all kinds of things as a hero in this world, but Gotham...Gotham was a different beast entirely. It took those with supple spines, chewed them up, and spat them out. He knew for a fact Cassie had the right stuff to thrive here, but she was still acclimating. Setting down the tablet, he stepped closer to her and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Cass...you don’t have to do this right now. I can do all the detective work. I’ll understand.”

Kara bit down on her tongue to hold back anything about Supergirl and how she could get him. So she nodded and sat back in the chair for a moment before sighing. She proceeded to stand up and straighten herself up. “Well, thank you Mr. Drake for your time. I really appreciate it.” she said with a smile.
“Not at all. I assure you Miss Danvers, I want to see a resolution to this as much as you do. Anything I can do to assist, I’d do gladly. I’ve given you everything I have there in that file, but if you have any other clarification questions or comments you are always welcome to reach out to me on my personal line.” He informed her as he scribbled his cell on the back of a business card and slid it over to her.

Tim was an odd one, someone he just couldn’t really figure out. He felt as though he was walking on eggshells and wasn’t sure why he just didn’t float over them. “A lot of people refuse to see it that way and see us as the freaks.” He kept hitting the bad as he spoke, deep breaths falling through half parted lips. “It’s not… Well it’s not fair so many like to judge, even other’s like us.”
“Well, then that’s their loss. Human kind is on the precipice of an evolution. In a hundred years...two hundred, everyone will be a meta like you. The bigots that would call you freaks? Their descendants will look back on them in shame for having been on the wrong side of history. I’m certain of it.” He told the Kryptonian with confidence as he braced the bag for hit after hit, hearing the chain above rattle slightly.

Cassie glanced up as Tim entered the office, noting the wet hair. That certainly explained what had taken so long. Well, longer than she’d expected. “I was looking through the images your drone was able to take, and it certainly explains what I got from the cops.” She swallowed hard, bringing up the photos but not quite looking at them. “The forensics guy said it looked like they were alive when that smile was carved. Based on lack of defensive wounds, at least none I could find in the pictures, he’d have to have been paralyzed somehow.” She paused, gaze focusing on anything else. “They think it’s a Joker fan. Can’t say I disagree.”
“Paralyzed, to an extent.” Tim exclaimed as he picked up a tablet that had a Wanye logo on the back, stepping next to her to show what it displayed. “Labs came back from the blood sample. Based on the toxin used, he couldn’t move but he surely felt everything. Akin to a night terror. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Its...advanced.” He said in awe and terror as his brow furrowed.

Even if she was able to get out of his hold, Stephanie was not satisfied. Sure, Tim was bigger and faster but she should not be able to put as much effort as she did. The only way for her to beat him is to throw him off balance. When she finally faced him, Tim seemed like he had no time to waist as he quickly moved that Stephanie almost did not see it. She was able to block but she was not able to properly shift weight so she still ended on the floor on fours, coughing a little when her breath was momentarily. Thanks to the endurance, agility and physical resilience she was able to developed through the years, she was able to recover. Steph reached for her his leg to grapple, raising one of her legs in preparation to lock him down.
In a stunning turn of events, at least to Tim, his attempts to subdue her failed and in a reversal she had managed to lock him down with her leg. He writhed and twisted in her grasp but ultimately couldn’t seem to wiggle free. In earnest, she had bested him, and he flattened his hand and smacked it on the padded floor twice. “Alright, alright,” He said through shortened breath at their spar. “I’m tapping out. You can release me from this python-like hold.”

“Sounds good.” Flying through the air after him, Cassie soon leveled with him, occasionally glancing over to try and get a read on him. No such luck with the serious facade he wore. So instead, she turned her focus to getting back to his place, speeding on ahead of him and back to the penthouse where she quickly changed and got settled.
As he left Cassie to get settled he took the liberty of sneaking himself into the shower. After his workout and then their patrol he didn’t want to smell of musk as they pulled an all nighter going over the results of his computer’s analysis of the data provided. Stepping into the darkened office with a litany of monitors displaying various things, he stepped up behind her as he fumbled in the dark with his shirt. “Alright, what do we have?”
