He knows damn  well  not to let something witty or sarcastic escape his lips so he opts to stare at the ground. There had to be a hero out there, Kid Flash refused —– hell, Wally refused to believe everyone had this tragic and upsetting backstory.  ‘ It’s not about that ‘ he wants to rebut , but nothing comes out and through this rare silence, one would assume he had given this argument up but no ——– not a chance, anyone who knew the young speedster would know he would go for ages, not to prove his side was right but if only to get to a conclusion .. that was wally.

he honest to god wants to know, is there anyone who can name one? oliver made it pretty clear that their lives couldn’t have the happy ever after they once had the chance for it to be. barry thought he was wrong too, thought he could be with iris and things would be . . . great. and every time joe comes to him with iris is here or there or where ever trouble is going to be and HE’S AFRAID-- what if, JUST what if . . . he’s not fast enough? 

or what if he is, but what if he makes a mistake somewhere ; something goes wrong and he ruins a relationship somehow. there is A LOT of stress that comes with trying to be normal when that doesn’t exist for any superheros. is barry happy? yeah, sure . . . sometimes. hearing wally . . . he want’s to BELIEVE that, believe he can be THAT hero . . .

but he doesn’t know where to start. ‘ that’s the problem wally . . . i can’t imagine.     any of it, anything . . . i don’t know. ‘ it doesn’t have to be this way BUT IT IS. and barry doesn’t like it just like anyone else ; he shakes his head, an aggravated thrust combing digits through his hair.

 And she thought dad had abandoned her. That he wasn’t coming for her, that nobody would come for her. It’s what Zoom said – and she feels a pang of SHAME now in her gut because there was a whole team out there looking for her. She shifts, suddenly uncomfortable. “Thank you,” she whispers. She doubts she would ever thank him enough. “For not throwing him out, too. I know my dad isn’t exactly the easiest to work with.” There’s a little laugh here, a joke very much based in truth. He isn’t. But he also seems to genuinely like these people – that’s new. She glances up at him, slightly curious. “It’s been a while since he made any friends.”

 Barry’s determination, his total lack of hesitation, makes breathing slightly easier. Zoom has methodically put her fire out but it’s like Barry’s bringing the flame back to life; making her feel a little braver. A little more hopeful. It makes her sit a little straighter, too. “And then we can go home – “ Dad says they never will but maybe she can believe Barry on this one. “I’ll help, in any way I can. Which. Which might not be that many, I’m no superhero.” She smiles, slightly sheepish. “I don’t know a thing about crime fighting.”

there is a laugh that can’t help but be audible ; because harry . . . harry was certainly an ACQUIRED taste. and whilst it was difficult to overcome the face of a person who deceived you once, barry could be forgiving enough that it allowed him to move on ; but it took time. her father had certainly shown he was not the same, a jerk, yes . . . but different from the harry of his earth’s time. ‘ yeah, he REALLY isn’t. ‘ it took patience, persistence, and honesty . . . but they got there. enough that it allowed them to save jesse. it took having the friends he had to really get through all this ; being the flash, saving lives, people, people he even knew and loved. 

‘ yeah, totally . . . then you two can go home. ‘ the slight turnaround in her mood, that is what barry wanted to see. hope---- still alive, restored. that is what would help them make this all possible. ‘ hey, take it from one superhero . . . i NEED all the help i can get! ‘ he beams, a bright smile now breaking through from a previous serious talk that started out. she can leave the crime fighting to him, he just need that big helpful brain of hers to figure out . . . well . . . everything else. ‘ the fighting, you can leave that to me. i’ll just tire them out. ‘ it was a completely purposeful pun . . . that did sharpen the grin on his face.

EVEN IF THIS WASN’T HER BARRY SHE COULD TELL. Just like she could tell with her boyfriend of THIS timeline, she could tell when he was lying. Or just TRYING to cover himself for what he did. “Yes. Time travel. We’ve had many conversations about this.” Well — THEY didn’t, if things were getting technical. Her Barry and her had conversations about this. Luckily the Barry standing in front of her wouldn’t have to worry about this earth’s Barry coming around at the moment. “You and I both know that you didn’t even REMOTELY try with that answer.” Narrowed eyes and hands on her hips signified she wanted answers and she wanted them immediately. “What is happening?”

clearly she was not going to cut him ANY slack. when those hands nestled on her hips it was SERIOUS business. hell, this type of demeanor from iris brought about the best posture in barry as he was about upright as a person could be, blurting out the necessary truth that wasn’t what anyone wanted to hear. ' there’s another timeline. ' wow, shocker, right? if she doesn’t give him the face, he knows his iris will . . . if he can get back to her ; because it’s actual worse than that sounds. and if this iris was any good as the iris on his earth . . . she might figure out there is a but coming.

  “Family – ?” Is that what Barry thought they were? For so long, family meant dad and her – just the two of them, against the world. Where did these people come from, instantly accepting her as one of their own? She laughed, humorless and a little desperate. “You don’t know that. You don’t know me.” Of course, the few hours Barry had kept her company in that cave were hours she would likely never forget.

  But he didn’t know her. She would help, if she could, but what could she do? Scream at Zoom to stop, like it could change a thing.

  She tugged at the sleeve of her sweater, sighed. “I’m. I’m not sure.” She wasn’t sure what OKAY meant anymore so it wasn’t technically a lie. Her eyes landed on Jay’s helmet, exposed in the middle of the Cortex. She still couldn’t believe her world’s hero – her hero, for so long – was dead. “Do you really think you can defeat him? Reopen the breaches?” While she missed home so much, the thought of Zoom having a way back here was terrifying.

               fair enough---- he did not know her. but after what she been through, knowing what zoom is capable of . . . would not helping have been her way? it doesn’t matter anymore, they escaped and found themselves somewhere much safer for now. ‘ look, we’ve been working with your dad for a while to find you, to help you. if you need anything . . . we’re here for you. ‘ that is what mattered currently, because even though they still had to stop zoom, they needed to have each other to rely on.

               ‘ yes. ‘ oh, barry is certain. hope filled and determined to save the people of earth two from their villain, his heroism may be a little over the top for the team as of late but he could not give up. ‘ i know we can. ‘ between his team here and the addition of harry, how could they fail? some of the best minds were all in this very place. ’ with your help . . . ‘ no scratch that, he needed to give her the choice---- whilst also giving her the courage to assist them. ‘ IF you decide to help us . . .  i know it can increase our odds. ‘ because she's smart, as harry put it---- smarter than him. she is so bright and has the potential to really be a great team member. if she wanted it, that is.

 “Oh, was you? Thanks then, that’s really heroic of you.” Cisco laughed because okay, if there was one thing he absolutely adored, it was Barry’s speed puns. Puns, in general. His bro and him punning their way through life. “Why would they store them in an organic source, though? Isn’t hard drive like, way more reliable?” But the next words had him shaking his head immediately because, “That, bro, that doesn’t proof a thing. Maybe someone has planted pain receptors, or something like pain receptors, in you so you wouldn’t even know something was off. Maybe we were NEVER supposed to find out. Maybe they’re already coming for us to keep us quiet.”

 Cisco rolled his eyes, still grinning. “Gross, dude. Gross. I’m regretting ever suggesting that.”He gave Barry’s shoulder another nudge and sure, the speedster could just run them there but hanging out like this – not worrying about the weight of the world, just two friends talking about dipping a burger in the coffee – it was a moment to treasure, not a moment to rush. “Hey, it’s not exactly a catch. Not a big catch. Not a game changing catch. It’s not like I had poisoned the dude or anything, it’s so not my fault he was having a bad day. No rules broken so the victory’s mine.”

               they were a team, the best broduo in existence. his laughter mixes with cisco’s ; their conversations being some of the best experiences, as they are never difficult to keep going. they could nerd out and it was completely natural ; the way a friendship was truly meant to work. ‘ yeah, you know me, got to do what i can. ‘ without a doubt, as the speedsters heroism stretched the boundaries, from life threatening to humor saving. ‘ hard drives are for storage, and they need backup . . . doesn’t seem like they would function for that. wait, why are we getting into this? ‘ right, right, it was for the science---- but it was definitely a WEIRD topic, animatronic reproduction. wouldn’t it just be easier to engineer duplicate automatons versus providing them reproductive purposes; just how lifelike were scientists and engineers willing to go? ‘ this is just freaky weird. ‘ what if they had more than metas on their hands-- yikes!  they do not need androids in the mix.
