“I think it’s just twisted… probably shouldn’t have been on it so much after the moon, but we got pay to live somehow,” he argued gently as his foot was angled into place and wrapped up, though his voice had no real bite to it. Sure, if they were low on money, Clare had the ability to charm people out of asking, but Lonny also wasn’t one to stop, even when his body was telling him to do so. It definitely didn’t make him the best person to live with or have to take care of; the Melks had already given him what for about how he pushed himself back in the day… and it seemed like none of it stuck too well. Bud would be pretty frustrated at this point if he was still around.

He almost wished Bud was around, so he and Clare could bond over all the stupid shit he pulled under their watchful eyes. Maybe Bud would’ve been good for Clare too.

When the vampire looked down at the ring, Lonny wasn’t sure what to expect. It could easily be a compliment of how well he’d done restoring it, or a question of why he had in the first place. As much as he’d tried to think to himself why he decided to put so much effort into it, he didn’t know, beyond the simple want of something to do with his hands at the end of the day. But his friend’s expression softening, saddening, the small curse that left his lips… that was nowhere near what he had thought would happen. It looked like recognition on his face, of melancholy for whatever the piece of jewelry represented. He considered asking, but the question died on his lips.

“‘Course,” he said with a nod, gingerly holding it out to him. The moment felt tender, though not in the same way the earlier position implied. Maybe some of that still lingered in the back of his werewolf-brain, but now… this was tender like a healing wound, not like love. He could tell that a mile away from the shake in Clare’s voice. “Like I said I… fixed it up a bit. So it’s not all original. Mostly around the gem, some hardware needed replaced. It was a bit tarnished when I found it. But I tried to keep it as close to what it pr’y looked like as I could.”

Lonny had been so focused on not smashing his face into the side of the building or falling straight down once the door was open, that he didn't fully realize what this looked like. He figured it looked just as it felt, him being an idiot once again— never mind that there wasn't much he could've done to prevent a spasm on pain in his body. For a moment, seeing the confusion and shock on Clare's face, he stayed put, looking up at him curiously.

"What?" He asked with furrowed brow, before looking down at himself, the ring he was holding in his hand. The pieces clicked together to what Clare may have thought was going on. "Oh! Oh, no. N-no. It ain't like that. This isn't for you." He quickly shoved the jewelry into his pocket, hands on the doorframe as he wobbled to his feet.

But the second realization broke over him, thinking that his response may have come across a little cruel, especially with the... indefinite answer to a question not directly posed. "Not that...! I found it in the woods and was cleaning it up. Somethin' to keep me busy. Maybe pawn it... that sort of thing." He didn't want to think of how flushed in embarrassment he might be. "Leg's been botherin' me, and it kind of gave out on me. Guess it just kinda combined into lookin' like that."
