You mean well, but I don’t think you’re considering the way all the Loreader fic erases the possibility of Lorax being gay or bi, and how homophobic it can be. Like it’s always assumed the reader  pronouns are she/her? What’s up with that? There’s nothing in the movie that conclusively says Lorax is 100% straight (and wow, would I see the whole movie very differently, if there was), so fic that treats it like the default is homophobic and you know it.

i know i said this blog was going to be discourse-free, but recent events have got me thinking. one of the biggest problems i have with onc*lax is that it’s erasing women, female-identifying individuals, and female-bodied people. m*n already have so much media devoted to them, and it’s so disappointing to see fandom skew in the same direction. women have been fighting for rights since forever, and now that it’s 2020, i think it’s time we start to take the fight for gender equality seriously. it doesn’t matter if you’re female-identifying, if you ship slash ships that exclude women, you’re contributing to the erasure and marginalisation of female identities.

There is a reason you don’t see the Onceler after the total destruction of the environment he precipitated so ignorantly and without a care for anything but his own money-making schemes.

He is changing.

The truffulas cast their dying curse on him and have begun a transformation that will leave him shorter and oranger and with a fancy yellow moustache and looking very much like his once-nemesis, the Lorax.

And you know why? The true secret?

It’s because the Lorax is the Onceler. Sent back into the far past via a strange time warp through a dead truffula tree trunk, he realizes his role, his true place in things. To try - and fail - to stop his horrible younger self, and then to teach us all the true nature of nature’s truth.

The movie kept this transformation secret because they thought it might be too powerful for young children, too strong of a message of how we all have to change, to be less like the Onceler and more like the Lorax. But you know, they managed to keep it in there anyway? Hint at it so well that it is inevitable.

Think about it. You know I’m right.
