New Mutants Special Edition (1985)
Comparing the original pencils to the published art, I think there was some editorial censorship removing a lot of the blood. Notice the clear liquid in the panel above that does not make any sense.
New Mutants Special Edition (1985)
On this page, we see Enchantress scratching the simulacrum of Illyana, which, as she explains, should cause a wound to appear on the real Illyana. In the original pencils, there appears to be a streak of blood on her cheek, but in the published art, only a flesh-colored outline remains.

It's New Magik Day! Refered to by some as "New Comics Day."
Spoilers and opinions under the cut:
Some mixed feelings on this one. Which admittedly may be because of my expectations--I don't like Maddie running Limbo, and I really wanted this issue to just put an end to that. But you can only write with the continuity (and editorial decisions) you have.
While Illyana doesn't retake responsibility for Limbo (which I think is the right wording for ruling over it), I do like how clearly it is acknowledged that her connection to the realm is unbreakable, and that all the demons know it.
This is pretty bad-ass. Also, new sword? Over a decade later, are we finally getting an explanation why modern Illyana is sometimes drawn with both the Surfboardsword and a regular-sized sword?
This bit I hate, though, Illyana being this casual about what is basically her teenage trauma? If she and Maddie are going to work together, I wish she'd push for Maddie to be more careful with the responsibility. Yes, I remember Dark Web.
Maddie makes several remarks about how she's more involved in ruling Limbo than Illyana ever was, but that's nonsense. In recent years, yeah, Illyana's role in Limbo was sadly underused, but she fought to keep Limbo under control and to keep anyone else from being hurt throughout the entire original New Mutants run.
If Illyana can't rule Limbo, I'm glad to see her at least take a semi-ongoing role in guarding the realm. We'll see what comes of it.
And a note on the art: Poor Hérvas. I liked his art in Blood Hunt, and I like it here. But man, Peralta has set a high standard to live up to.

Othertongue - Magik Spells Here

Magik (2025) #6
In Magik #6, we see more use of Othertongue, this time by Magik and Gar’hn the Alchemist.
In the first panel, we see Gar’hn saying “Magik spells here”. While it could just be funny placeholder text for a demon casting a spell, it’s interesting that it’s “Magik” spells and not “magic” spells.
And in Illyana’s case, we see her saying “Bangv”. I wonder if the ‘v’ was meant to double as a ‘!’, which would make her saying “Bang!”

Magik's logo through the years
Classic Logo

Magik's first logo was created for her 1983 mini-series by Alex Jay, under the direction of Louise Jones. You can read all about it first hand from Alex Jay on his blog. It's still a powerful logo with great identity and easily adaptable for a variety of colorways.
Notable appearances: Magik (1983) #1, Marvel Super-Heroes Spring Special (1990) #1
Notable appearances: Magik (1983) #2
Notable appearances: Magik (1983) #4
Notable appearances: New Mutants (1983) #14
Modern Logo

In 2007, Magik got a one-shot called Mystic Arcana: Magik, which has persisted to this day with many different colorways. I believe the logo was created by Marko Djurdejevic, as he was the cover artist for all Mystic Arcana covers. At the time of this writing, I have not been able to confirm this. The image below is the colorway used for the "logo variant" of Magik (2025) #1.

Retrovision Logo

In July 2025, Marvel is publishing a retro-inspired variant line. For Magik (2025) #7, Joe Quinones created what is only the third published Magik logo in 50 years! Joe Quinones based the retro logo on an old "House of Mystery" logo. We'll likely only see this logo used this one time. Below is my attempt to isolate and recreate the logo.
Unused Logos
Remember how Alex Jay created the original Magik logo back in 1983, and shared the history of it on his blog? Well, he also shared the logos that got rejected. This post wouldn't be complete without a look at those, so I made an attempt at remastering them.

Quote Magik

"Quote Magik" - Magik (2025) #5
Did you know that the demons of Limbo have their own language and script? Thanks to Cypher's ability to understand any language and his run in with Limbo demons in New Mutants (2009) #17 we can also read Limbo script! Limboscript? Limbospeak? In the above panel from Magik (2025) #5 released today, we see Magik saying "Quote Magik".
