a brief demo of this game my friends & i are developing just dropped as part of the latest rpgmaker horror game jam!

it's about a restless young girl, delphine, trying to investigate the secrets of the institution she's been sent to, with the help of a mysterious dream spirit- who thinks she may be the key to the questions of their own.

♱ ACOLYTE PEREGRINUS ♱

Peregrinus comes across a small town after being exiled from where he previously stayed. The town is full of very eccentric people who continuously warn him about a supposed witch, all to varying degrees. Some say they speak from experience, others just paranoia. A woman claims her baby was stolen, a farmer experiencing famine.

Peregrinus chalks this up to mass hysteria, and needing to point a finger for their shortcomings. Believing in sorcery would work against his beliefs.

But a man who is missing an eye claims he was attacked, that he saw the witch himself. This surprises him a little, but he is not easily convinced, despite how frantic this man is. It proposes an interesting situation. If he could prove there is no witch, he could invoke faith into these people.

He exclaims to everyone that he will prove that there is no witch occupying the woods. The townspeople rejoice, except for the one-eyed man, who begs him not to risk his life like that. Peregrinus does not heed his warning.

He travels to the forest, with a lantern and crossbow, but he needs only his cross. As he travels deeper and deeper, the trees become more barren, the grass more dead and sounds of bugs and birds slowly fade. He eventually comes across a worn down hut in the middle of a clearing, and he suddenly realises how hot the surrounding area has gotten. It feels like pounding heat is shoving against his body, it makes him dizzy. His eyes feel fuzzy the more he stands there. He feels as if he’ll pass out, reality slowly becoming hard to distinguish. Staring at the house feels like staring at a flat painting thats coaxing him in.

He now recognises, he has stumbled upon the witches domain full of her spawn - her womb.

He immediately turns around, head heavy and feet light. He has yet to recognise that he is directly leading the witch to town.
