Vintage Revival of the Week: Breton Stripe
Land ahoy! Do you see what I see? Nautical, maritime breton stripes are in the horizon!
So, what exactly are breton stripes? Breton stripes are the horizontal blue and white striped pattern that have been worn by French Navy sailors since the late 1850s. Breton stripes were seen as relatively unstylish during their time of creation until designer Coco Chanel incorporated the pattern into her 1917 couture collection. In the post-WWII 50s and 60s, breton striped were now being worn by those in the anti-materialistic and nonconformist Beatnik counterculture.
Now, the real question is how is this utilitarian turned couture turned counterculture trend being revived? Many designers incorporated nautical themes and patterns, like breton stripe, into their Spring/Summer 2025 NYFW looks. Additionally, breton stripe is also being seen in streetwear, with instagram influencers posting their breton stripe looks. Take a look!
What do you think? Should we embrace sailor-core, or should breton stripes walk the plank to their fashion grave? Let us know!

Vintage Revival of the Week: Leg Warmers
Welcome back to Revival of the Fittest! This week you might be able to go through your parents closet and find something that has comeback into style, but be careful not to dig to far or you might find an old prom dress that should stay in your mom's closet. Fortunately, we are talking about leg warmers!
Leg warmers first became popular in the early 1980s. They were mostly worn by dancers and people that went to the gym to keep their muscles from cramping after stretching. They became more popular after the movie "Flashdance" in 1983 and the aerobics craze helped push it along. They can be seen in a lot of other 1980s movies and T.V. shows. I remember first seeing them in an episode of "Full House." They were worn in all sorts of fun colors! They were usually paired with bright leotards and leggings, but they were also worn with street clothes on rare occasions.

In the 1990s fashion trends changed and popularity in leg warmers began to decline. But guess what? They are back from the dead! Leg warmers have started to come back into fashion. As a retail worker, I have had many people come into the store looking for leg warmers and have seen many people including them in their everyday outfits. They have started making a comeback since 2024! We predict they will be bigger than ever in 2025! Take a look of modern versions of leg warmers and how they are styled.

Leg warmers are no longer something you only wear to the gym, but have now become part of street wear. Will you be digging through your mom's closet anytime soon to find a pair of vintage leg warmers or look for a modern version online? Let us know what you think! Should leg warmers have stayed in the 80's? Join us next week for a new fashion trend revived from the dead and don't forget to comment below!

Revival of the Week: Knee-high and lace-up sneaker heels
Hello and welcome back to Revival of the Fittest! This week, we're lacing up and reaching new heights with the electrifying return of knee-high and lace-up heels! While we had the western charm of the cowgirl boots and the presence of platform heels making a comeback that was fueled by the captivating style of Sabrina Carpenter, having dominated recent trends. We take a deeper dive into the vintage and second-hand corners that reveal more exciting resurgence: the sneaker heel and its close cousin, the lace-up bootie!

For those of us who remember the dawn of the new millennium, sneaker heels might conjure up images of a vibrant and unapologetically bold era. Lets think back to the days of the sneaker heels were the perfect footwear to bridge that gap between athletic comfort and a touch of unexpected elevation. Icons like Rihanna was often spotted wearing these unique shoes as she's known for her love with streetwear fashion.

Now, as a significant subculture passionately revives that early 2000's aesthetic, we're witnessing the nostalgic pull of sneaker heels once again. This comeback isn't just a carbon copy of the past though. Today's iterations often feature sleeker silhouettes, innovative material combinations, and a fresh take on the original chunky platforms. We're seeing everything from sporty, streamlined designs with hidden wedges to bold, statement-making sneaker-boot hybrids. Alongside this, the boxing-inspired lace-up boot, with its sturdy construction and edgy vibe, is also gaining traction.

Now we want to hear from you! What are your thoughts on this bold comeback? Did you rock sneaker heels back in the day? Are you tempted to embrace this revived trend? Let me know how you'd style a pair – would you go full Y2K with low-rise jeans and a baby tee, or would you create a modern contrast with a tailored skirt or wide-leg trousers? Share your thoughts and styling ideas in the comments below – We can't wait to see what you think!

Vintage Revival of the Week: Opera Gloves
What's long, sensual, and will make a woman feel like a million bucks? If you said a pair of elegant opera gloves, then you would be correct!
Opera gloves, also known as evening gloves, were immensely popular during the Regency and Napoleonic Era (late 1700s to mid 1800s). And by the Victorian and Edwardian Era (mid 1800s to early 1900s), opera gloves became a symbol of social status for women. However, the opera glove wavered in popularity during the years after World War I. They were now primarily worn to special events by women who wanted to add a touch of luxury to their formal attire.
And now opera gloves are trending once again! Designers are adorning their models with opera gloves to give their Fall/Winter 2025 looks a sophisticated flair. Celebrities are even wearing opera gloves to events such as fashion shows, the Golden Globes, and the SAG awards. Take a look!
What do you think? Should we embrace vintage glitz and glamour or send opera gloves back to the fashion grave? Let us know and we'll see you next week with a new Revival of the Fittest blog post!

Vintage Revival of the Week: Mary Jane Shoes
Hello everyone and welcome back to Revival of the Fittest! Did your mom ever make you wear those shiny black shoes with a strap and a pair of white lacy socks? My mom sure did! Those shoes are called Mary Jane shoes and they are making a comeback!
Mary Jane shoes first came out in the 1900s and were designed for young girls to wear with their school uniforms and made from leather. Mary Jane shoes got their name from a cartoon character popular at the time. The design made it easy for young girls to put on their shoes without help and for moms to quickly put on the shoes of baby girls. By the 1960s both young girls and women were wearing Mary Jane shoes. These shoes had also developed into a variety of styles including heels.

Although Mary Jane shoes have never really gone away they have been making a big comeback since 2023! Mary Jane shoes are no longer just for women and young girls, men have also started wearing these popular shoes. We predict Mary Jane shoes will make a big revival this year! Take a look at these modern Mary Jane shoes and the different styles!
Mary Jane shoes are no longer the shoes your mom forces you to wear, but a fashion statement. Will Mary Jane shoes be the new addition to your wardrobe or do you think these shoes should stay in their grave? Let us know what you think and join us next week to see what new fashion trend is being revived from the dead!

Revival of the Week: Capris

This week we are talking about Capri pants! Capris were a staple in the early 2000s fashion, and their revival began in 2020 as capri jeans and leggings regained popularity. These cropped styles evoke nostalgia, reminding many of their youthful fashion choices from the late '90s and early 2000s.
Do you remember wearing capris as a child? I certainly do! I recall my mom dressing me in jorts, plaid capris, and cargo capris; but especially Paul Frank capris. Paul Frank wasn't just a trend for young girls in the early 2000s, it's the designer I associate most with capris.
Capris have recently made a significant comeback, and they've remained popular longer than I anticipated. When influencers first started wearing them again, there was a lot of buzz. With the resurgence of Y2K fashion over the past few years, their revival was inevitable, and I'm loving it.

Capris can be styled in a variety of ways. One trend I've particularly enjoyed is the 'office siren' look. It's refreshing to see people express themselves more in professional settings. You also see cargo capris styled with high heels during the warmer months. Here are some brands and influencers I've noticed wearing them!

What are your thoughts? Have you been wearing capris and do they remind you of your childhood? Please let us know how you would style capris!

I’m seeing a lot of subcultures growing online lately, reintroducing unusual or older styles to new audiences. Feels like scene and emo and lolita are more…commonly seen irl now?
thoughts on how the internet is affecting modern fashion, if at all? 🎤
Hi there~! Thanks for your question~! 💖
I agree that as of lately, we've been seeing a rise in vintage fashion trends. I believe that this is due to a nostalgia-based megatrend. Megatrends are widespread and long-term social, cultural, economic, technological, and environmental trends. These megatrends often impact the fashion trends we see. In order to escape from the stressful and uncertain state of the current world, many people have been seeking comfort and familiarity in the past, which includes fashion styles.
Additionally, Gen Z in particular has been opting for vintage and unique fashion in response to the impersonal nature of mass-produced fast fashion. Gen Z tends to value sustainability, individuality, and authenticity, which is something that is difficult to find from fast fashion brands.
As for the internet, social media such as Tik Tok and Instagram have increased the visibility and spread of new or reviving fashion trends. I believe that without social media, fashion subcultures such as lolita fashion wouldn't have had the impact that it had. Personally, without YouTube, I wouldn't have learned about and grown to love lolita fashion.
However, social media has also sped up the fashion cycle, leading to short-lived fashion trends and ultimately over-consumption.
I hope I answered your question~! If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to send them our way~!

Vintage Revival of the Week: Fringe
Hello and welcome back to Revival of the Fittest! This week is all about the funky trend that dominated the 60s and 70s - Fringe! And wouldn’t you know, it’s making a revival in 2025!
Fringe was first introduced into mainstream fashion in the 1920s, however it didn’t gain widespread popularity until the 60s and 70s. Those in the hippie counterculture movement of the 60s adopted fringe into their fashion style as a way to reject mainstream fashion. However, fringe became mainstream in the 70s and eventually fell out of fashion.
And now, twenty years after the boho-chic fringe trend of the early 2000s, is fringe once again being revived from the dead? We think it is! Many designers have been using fringe in their recent collections for the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2025 New York Fashion Week. Take a look!
What do you think? Should fringe make another comeback or should it stay in the fashion grave? Let us know and we’ll see you next week with a new Revival of the Fittest blog post!

Vintage Revival of the Week: Corsets
Welcome back to Revival of the Fittest! This week we're going to talk about something that has had women holding their breath for centuries -Corsets! They have been spotted making a comeback in recent fashion trends!
Corsets have been around for a very long time. They date back all the way to Ancient Greece, but were especially popular when it reached Europe later on during the Middle Ages. Both men and women wore corsets to achieve a smaller waist. By the 1500s, corsets had become mainly worn by women and had the structure we know of today except the boning was made of actual whale bone, horns or wood. They continued to be popular through the Victorian Era especially in French fashion.
During World War I women started to ditch the corset for a bra, but guess what? Corsets are being revived! They have been seen making a slow comeback in runways and streetwear since 2023 but we predict they will make a big comeback this year. Take a look at these modern versions of a corset!
Will you be going out to buy a corset and jump on this trend or do you believe corsets should stay in their grave? Let us know and join us next week for another fashion trend that is coming back from the dead!
