Decals are on. Eduard decals are just quality I must say. I only put a little of softer to make sure I can weather them later or and revise the panel lines. Propeller drying on the spray booth. Looks like this wolf is ready for assembly and weathering... I am pleased with the results so far but it has been a nice learning process. Paint in progress. Using mainly MRP paints, lacker and acrylic. I must recommend it because it is a problem free airbrush paint, and the pigments are good quality. Here we can see the underbelly done plus staring with the main cammo... notice the strong yellow, it will have to be tone down with washes and filters. I can’t wait to start the weathering 😎. Yamato hull painted. 71cm long so apologies for the poor quality shoots but it’s kind of difficult to fit everything in a square photo. It has been treated with a layer of Gauzi by @akinteractive.official ready for weathering. Been doing some first coat spraying. The wolf is sprayed with MRP paints... a pure joy to work with, no spitting, no clogging. On the other hand the first layer on the Yamato is a different story. Lifecolor paint are a bitch to thin, doesn’t like Vallejo or Tamiya thinners, so if anybody has tips of how to make it run smoothly through the airbrush pls tell me. It states on the label(in Italian) to thin it with water, but I am not sure about it. Update on 1979 Yamato(yes it is that old!). Here one can see the huge ejection pin that has to be fill and sand on the turret “ears”. Landing gear and side panels ready to go. I would say I will dare to give the first layer of paint on her if not tomorrow at the weekend. Time to tackle the canopies... and start to put all the masking and pieces together!. Yamato update: Aftermarket propellers cost a fortune for what they are at this scale so I decided to do my best with the plastic ones. First try was painted by hand... and I didn’t like the results. Second try and final was with airbrush and revell gold enamel 94. I also sprayed a strypstyrene 2mm thick from evergreen, item 212, which gives a much better finish for the shafts than the Tamiya. Quick update of what’s cooking at the weekend. One of the scratch build side panels is almost completed: sanding, priming, painting and weathering still to go on, but one can at least see the shape 🤓. Hopefully it will look better than the plain panel that Eduard supplied. Spray booth full on with small parts 😅 too!. On the other photos, a much needed drop of for the Yamato , it came without decals and since I want to get the colours right lifecolor paint set to the rescue. One engine done, another half way. Eduard has done a pretty good job with them... just to be completely covered by the fuselage at the next step. Not option given to show it, so one has to decide to follow the instructions and cover it or scratch build the hatch somehow to make it visible. Rust and metal effects done with @officialflorymodels washes and @Tamiya panel line wash. Yamato hull primed. I had to take cared of a big joint line that run along her belly: Sharp blade, sanding and a touch of Tamiya compound did the job. So much for a side project when you have to put everything aside!. It is big... 75cm long. I still haven’t been able to find the propeller shafts pipes which were missing from the kit so if anyone has an idea pls DM me. Side project which I have always fancy doing... the almighty Yamato on 1/350 scale. Double the pleasure, double the pain: I read reviews and some of you guys warned me about some part fitting issues with this kit. I particularly found it a bit hard the wings. Somehow the inner structure on the lower wind sat too proud and gave some problems to get a gap free fit. Some after some sanding and test fitting I positioned the upper wings. This left still some gaps and seams that had to be dealt with, so Perfect plastic putty by Deluxe Materials was used. It is water based, so as you can see from the short video is easily removed, once dry, with a wet cotton bud and rubbing gently along the seams. Once it absorbs a bit of moisture, it will start to dissolve leaving you only with the almost perfect fill.
