Environmental technology and Internet addiction
Environmental technology (envirotech), green technology (greentech) or clean technology (cleantech) is the application of one or more of environmental science, green chemistry, environmental monitoring and electronic devices to monitor, model and conserve the natural environment and resources, and to curb the negative impacts of human involvement. The term is also used to describe sustainable energy generation technologies such as photovoltaics, wind turbines, bioreactors, etc.Sustainable development is the core of environmental technologies. The term environmental technologies is also used to describe a class of electronic devices that can promote sustainable management of resources. Internet addiction is described as an impulse control disorder, which does not involve use of an intoxicating drug and is very similar to pathological gambling.  Some Internet users may develop an emotional attachment to on-line friends and activities they create on their computer screens. Internet users may enjoy aspects of the Internet that allow them to meet, socialize, and exchange ideas through the use of chat rooms, social networking websites, or "virtual communities."   Other Internet users spend endless hours researching topics of interest Online or "blogging".  Blogging is a contraction of the term "Web log", in which an individual will post commentaries and keep regular chronicle of events.  It can be viewed as journaling and the entries are primarily textual.Similar to other addictions, those suffering from Internet addiction use the virtual fantasy world to connect with real people through the Internet, as a substitution for real-life human connection, which they are unable to achieve normally. What are the warning signs of Internet addiction?Preoccupation with the Internet.  (Thoughts about previous on-line activity or anticipation of the next on-line session.)Use of the Internet in increasing amounts of time in order to achieve satisfaction.Repeated, unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop Internet use.Feelings of restlessness, moodiness, depression, or irritability when attempting to cut down use of the Internet.On-line longer than originally intended.Jeopardized or risked loss of significant relationships, job, educational or career opportunities because of Internet use.Lies to family members, therapists, or others to conceal the extent of involvement with the Internet.Use of the Internet is a way to escape from problems or to relieve a dysphoric mood.  (e.g. Feelings of hopelessness, guilt, anxiety, depression.)What are the effects?Internet addiction results in personal, family, academic, financial, and occupational problems that are characteristic of other addictions.  Impairments of real life relationships are disrupted as a result of excessive use of the Internet.  Individuals suffering from Internet addiction spend more time in solitary seclusion, spend less time with real people in their lives, and are often viewed as socially awkward. Arguments may result due to the volume of time spent on-line.  Those suffering from Internet addiction may attempt to conceal the amount of time spent on-line, which results in distrust and the disturbance of quality in once stable relationships. Some suffering from Internet addiction may create on-line personas or profiles where they are able to alter their identities and pretend to be someone other than himself or herself.  Those at highest risk for creation of a secret life are those who suffer from low-self esteem feelings of inadequacy, and fear of disapproval.  Such negative self-concepts lead to clinical problems of depression and anxiety. Many persons who attempt to quit their Internet use experience withdrawal including: anger, depression, relief, mood swings, anxiety, fear, irritability, sadness, loneliness, boredom, restlessness, procrastination, and upset stomach.  Being addicted to the Internet can also cause physical discomfort or medical problems such as: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, dry eyes, backaches, severe headaches, eating irregularities, (such as skipping meals), failure to attend to personal hygiene, and sleep disturbance. How can someone get help? The first step is to determine if there is a problem.  A Certified Addictions Counselor trained in identification and treatment of Internet addiction can effectively perform an assessment to determine what level of care is most appropriate.  For a free confidential assessment, call the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery at (800) 522-3784.  An assessment can be completed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are always welcome.   Sources:  "Virtual Addiction" David N. Copyright infringement
Copyright infringement (colloquially referred to as piracy) is the use of works protected by copyright law without permission for a usage where such permission is required, thereby infringing certain exclusive rights granted to the copyright holder, such as the right to reproduce, distribute, display or perform the protected work, or to make derivative works. The copyright holder is typically the work's creator, or a publisher or other business to whom copyright has been assigned. Copyright holders routinely invoke legal and technological measures to prevent and penalize copyright infringement.
Copyright infringement disputes are usually resolved through direct negotiation, a notice and take down process, or litigation in civil court. Egregious or large-scale commercial infringement, especially when it involves counterfeiting, is sometimes prosecuted via the criminal justice system. Shifting public expectations, advances in digital technology, and the increasing reach of the Internet have led to such widespread, anonymous infringement that copyright-dependent industries now focus less on pursuing individuals who seek and share copyright-protected content online, and more on expanding copyright law to recognize and penalize, as indirect infringers, the service providers and software distributors who are said to facilitate and encourage individual acts of infringement by others.
Estimates of the actual economic impact of copyright infringement vary widely and depend on many factors. Nevertheless, copyright holders, industry representatives, and legislators have long characterized copyright infringement as piracy or theft – language which some U.S. courts now regard as pejorative or otherwise contentious.[1][2][3]

Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying or cyberharassment is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means. Cyberbullying and cyberharassment are also known as online bullying. It has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers.[1]Cyberbullying is when someone, typically teens, bully or harass others on the internet, particularly on social media sites. Harmful bullying behavior can include posting rumors, threats, sexual remarks, a victims' personal information, or pejorative labels (i.e. hate speech).[2] Bullying or harassment can be identified by repeated behavior and an intent to harm.[3] Victims may experience lower self-esteem, increased suicidal ideation, and a variety of negative emotional responses, including being scared, frustrated, angry, and depressed.[4]
Awareness in the United States has risen in the 2010s, due in part to high-profile cases.[5][6] Several US states and other countries have laws specific to cyberbullying.[7] Some are designed to specifically target teen cyberbullying, while others use laws extending from the scope of physical harassment.[8] In cases of adult cyberharassment, these reports are usually filed beginning with local police.[9]
Research has demonstrated a number of serious consequences of cyberbullying victimization.[10]
Internet trolling is a common form of bullying over the Internet in an online community (such as in online gaming or social media) in order to elicit a reaction, disruption, or for someone's own personal amusement.[11][12] Cyberstalking is another form of bullying or harassment that uses electronic communications to stalk a victim; this may pose a credible threat to the victim.[13]
Not all negative interaction online or on social media can be attributed to cyberbullying. Research suggests that there are also interactions online that result in peer pressure, which can have a negative, positive, or neutral impact on those involved.[14][15][16]

Environmental protection is a practice of protecting the natural environment on individual, organizational or governmental levels, for the benefit of both the environment and humans. Environmentalism, a social and environmental movement, addresses environmental issues through advocacy, education and activism.[1]  The carbon dioxide equivalent of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere has already exceeded 400 parts per million (NOAA) (with total "long-term" GHG exceeding 455 parts per million)

We are already at risk of many areas of pollution...It's not next year or next decade, it's now." The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated "Climate change is not just a distant future threat. It is the main driver behind rising humanitarian needs and we are seeing its impact. The number of people affected and the damages
10. FURTHER, OCHA HAS STATED:  Climate disasters are on the rise. Around 70 percent of disasters are now climate related – up from around 50 percent from two decades ago.  These disasters take a heavier human toll and come with a higher price tag. In the last decade, 2.4 billion people were affected by climate related disasters, compared to 1.7 billion in the previous decade. The cost of responding to disasters has risen tenfold between 1992 and 2008.  Destructive sudden heavy rains, intense

By year 2050, the global human population is expected to grow by 2 billion people, thereby reaching a level of 9.6 billion people (Living Blue Planet 24).[4] The human effects on Earth can be seen in many different ways. A main one is the temperature rise, and according to the report ”Our Changing Climate”, the global warming that has been going on for the past 50 years is primarily due to human activities (Walsh, et al. 20). Animal welfare
Animal welfare is the well-being of nonhuman animals. The standards of "good" animal welfare vary considerably between different contexts. These standards are under constant review and are debated, created and revised by animal welfare groups, legislators and academics worldwide.[1][2] Animal welfare science uses various measures, such as longevity, disease, immunosuppression, behavior, physiology, and reproduction,[3] although there is debate about which of these indicators provide the best information.
Respect for animal welfare is often based on the belief that nonhuman animals are sentient and that consideration should be given to their well-being or suffering, especially when they are under the care of humans.[4] These concerns can include how animals are slaughtered for food, how they are used in scientific research, how they are kept (as pets, in zoos, farms, circuses, etc.), and how human activities affect the welfare and survival of wild species.
There are two forms of criticism of the concept of animal welfare, coming from diametrically opposite positions. One view, held by some thinkers in history, holds that humans have no duties of any kind to animals. The other view is based on the animal rights position that animals should not be regarded as property and any use of animals by humans is unacceptable. Accordingly, some animal rights proponents argue that the perception of better animal welfare facilitates continued and increased exploitation of animals.[5][6] Some authorities therefore treat animal welfare and animal rights as two opposing positions.[7][page needed][8][9] Others see animal welfare gains as incremental steps towards animal rights.
The predominant view of modern neuroscientists, notwithstanding philosophical problems with the definition of consciousness even in humans, is that consciousness exists in nonhuman animals.[10][11] However, some still maintain that consciousness is a philosophical question that may never be scientifically resolved.[12]

THE POWER OF YOUTHBy: John Paul DelfinAs the new technologies and modernization come and change our way of life, it comes with new ideas and of course, innovations. It takes away the attention of the youth from what really is important as their age goes near to the voting age. We always hear and see everywhere the saying “Every vote counts,” and yet nobody seems to care about it. One vote can change results because in the end, the large sum of votes are just votes of many different individuals.According to Ma.Lourdes Tiquia and Ma. Irene Cariaga in their book Campaign Politics, “The Filipino voters are young”. The voters aged 19 and below comprise approximately 49.21 percent of the total population. This means that young voters have a great effect in the result of the election. With the aid of the social media, Filipino voters, specially the youth, have greater access to different information about the candidates that will gradually help them in choosing who are the ones they will vote. The voices and votes of the youth comprise about half of the Filipino voters, yet the problem lies on their attention, it is directed to other things such as the technology that many of them don’t care about what happens to the election and leave it to the adults. The Youth has Power and yet they don’t realize it and make use of it. They rely on the older people and concentrate on the things that interest them.Fellow youth, realize your POWER and BE the VOTE that brings CHANGE. Don’t leave it to others, rely on yourself. Together, we can bring an end to the problems that surround us.HOPE OF THE NATIONBy: Ike Dave BestocaWho will be the one that saves the future?  Youths, is the time when something is new and not yet established. No one is perfect in this world, because everyone can make mistakes. We are searching for who will be the one that can make our future brighter. Our country is one of the poorest country, this happens because of the corrupt politics. But change is coming! Everything will change because of youths, where they are the hope of the nation in everything depends on them. Change starts in simple way, not just simple and ordinary because it can make a big difference.  This is the vote of the youths, where it is the beginning of everything.   Some of the youths just ignore their votes because they think that their votes are useless. So encourage them to vote wisely, to choose who will be the one to be the leader that starts the change. As Nikki Reed says that “young people need to vote. They need to get out there. Every vote counts. Educate yourself too.  Don’t just vote. Know what you’re voting for, and stand by that. Because the ballot is stronger than bullet. So get out of there and change the dark color of yesterday to brighter color of today. So youths don’t be shy just jump and shout your vote because it’s your voice!POWERFUL WEAPONBy: Ruel Orpilla               The youth is the most powerful weapon that we have in our dying country. This is the hope to acknowledge our faith in our life. To build a better nation and to start a strongest society of all. But there are also a barrier in our society that can manipulate the corruption of the officials. We us a people we need to fight the corruption on our country to give our best to our love one’s. It’s so hard for us to adjust in the society the there is no hope and faith but we do as part to motivate our youth to vote the right person and the right officials in our country to fight and change the whole nation that we have right now.  Can also help by the technologies and high tech devices that can increase the knowledge and wisdom of the youth to vote the right officials.            It’s time to change our society to stop corruption, drugs, crimes and other non-human treats. It’s time to guide the youths in the right way to achieve our goals in our society. So let’s have a unity to build our own society with the help of technology.VOTE WISELY…BE A FUTURE INSPIRATION!!!.....THE YOUTH IS THE FUTUREBy: Mila Grace Espada“Young people need to vote. They need to get out there. Every vote counts. Educate yourself too. Don’t just vote. Know what you’re voting for, and stand by that.” --Nikki Reed            Why do youth need to vote? Everything starts from the youth; change begins with them in just their one vote.            Youths are the hope for the future, they need to volunteer to vote and stand for what they believe. As they make a choice to whom they will choose they should know first who they are voting for. The one who will listen totheir voice, the one who makes their responsibilities.            Youths needs to be educated, they need to educate their selves, so that they will be not ignorant enough. Youths are the one who can do the things that aged can’t do anymore. Through volunteering and sacrificing their time and their dedication, there are lots of works will be accomplished and problems are being solved. Even through the use of technology they can work, they can send their message to the world.            Youths, don’t take your votes for granted. Do not hide from the corners of this world. Come out and let your voice be heard.            Therefore, the hope are the youths, the voice to be heard, they are the one improves their environment. One vote can change the world; a wise voter has a good future. Actual or online let’s do volunteering to help make our place better.            Youths!!!Click for the change.TODAY’S YOUTHBy: Kier MatiasOld people are always saying that the youths are the key of shaping the future of a nation. But why the youths today has out of control.  There are many teenagers who got used to alcohol and cigarettes and also many young people  suffer from drug addiction. Today more girls become pregnant under the age of 18.The majority of adults saying that it happens because young people don’t know how to spend plenty of free time  that they have, that’s why they gather in groups in the streets  and create lawlessness. But at the same time today a lot of teenagers practice sports, visit art school, attend various study groups and voluntary help like planting trees at the mountains and collecting garbage along the road etc. To avoid such things we must join to any activities that makes our life happy like volunteering your selves in any. We must also listen to our parents to have a better future also with our teachers.BE A VOLUNTEERBy: Geraline GabolAs today’s generation, we youth are now engaging on active participation of volunteering during election. With the help of this new created Technologies,we are engaged in the success of election. Because mobilization helps us a lot to be more useful in sending or reporting any manipulation, unfair treatments to the voter's, uncomfortable place of voting, and some opinions and mga sumbong ng mga mamboboto. And we can also one of them, Be A Volunteer!! Because everyone must participate on this to avoid and beat the corrupts, and selfish candidates. And for us to have a progressive country, and for us to have a better future. And we Youth must continue to do our responsibilities, either in small or big ways that ee can help; And as for they say that "Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan."And let's prove this saying said by Rizal, in action. So, let us start now!THERE’S A POWER IN YOUR VOTE, SPEAK OUT AND BE HEARDBy: Jessel NabulayVolunteering to elect will bring a big differencein our country. Let us be one, together for our childrengenerations’ generation.Come out and vote, when you cooperate to vote we have new hope. Hope for our country: hope for new peace, hope for new happiness, hope for new beginning and hope to start a new life. Let us come into one group because when we are united we rise but when we are divided we fall.Prior research states two well-known ideas: 1) that young voters are not voting at the same rates as other eligible voters and 2) politicians do not view youth as a voting bloc that impacts their campaign strategy or public policymaking strategy. What would it take for young people to feel like they were being heard and for candidates to speak to young people in a way that was authentic, rich and relevant? Will candidates have to reach out to young voters first, or will young voters turn out, grabbing the attention of candidates? What issues, messages and techniques did candidates and campaigns use to reach out to young. Candidates, some more than others, can successfully make the first move and reach out to the core, untapped constituency of young voters to seek support for their candidacy. Individuals tend to vote more when they are asked to participate than those who were not asked. After acquiring the right to vote, people have the freedom to choose their candidates. They must not sell their vote to a corrupt politician. Remember, if you will vote wisely and freely then your voice will be heard. So in conclusion, we youth must vote for our future mobilization, development and security of the nation. I would encourage all the youths to vote cause there’s a power in your vote, speak out and be heard!KABATAAN ANG PAG-ASA NG BAYANBy: Edward TomlayenYouth, are as its said in Filipino “Pag-Asa ng bayan” agree or disagree, for me it depends on the youth or from the person himself/herself if he/she would really be one of a good model or just a bad image that he/she only shows negative side of his/her attitude and also most of the youths today tend to be this kind of image to others that’s why our community needs youth that would be a leader a good image and for them to lead and guide those young one’s in terms of election and how important it is.For these young youth’s who are still ignorant about election ,this are the jobs for those youth’s who is well educated and have a knowledge about this for them to volunteer themselves and mobilize/gather and to talk about these matter and share their ideas and knowledge’s also to share why would some of the youth’s wouldn’t want to vote on election days and to know what is the real reason why.Oh and some of us call it as SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) for the purpose that even though we are still not considered adult but we are at the age of voting that we would have also the right to choose what we would want our government to be and that is an important reason why youth’s would really vote, and that is why one barangay/community would really require that these SK would really apply underneath it and for the youth’s also to contribute to the community and not only a pain, but would be of help  and so that we would also let out our opinions and ideas. For some youth’s are really stubborn that they are still a pain and a disgrace in the community, this is also where some of the SK or volunteered youth’s would somehow find a way to help ,talk to these bad influenced youth’s that they would discipline and would give a punishment for these troublemaker’s and that they would give them the real nature and meaning of being one of the so called YOUTH’S of today’s Generation that “We Youth’s of Today’s Generation would not be the problem but would be the Solution”, and that we would not contribute hardships but would contribute an ease with these everyday problems of the society. That one day youth volunteers would progress and will someday live to its true potential and to its creed as its said (Pag-asa ng Bayan). I would pray that one day all of the youth’s of the future generation would continue and would upgrade and develop the project the works of the past generations of youth volunteers and that they would surpass he ideas, solutions and would be one of the great help to nation and would one day be the country, that adults also would support and would appreciate give consideration to the call of the youths so that they would not be discouraged but be encouraged and would continue doing what is best to the community and also to all of these youths of today’s generation would wake up .come into their senses that hey! Instead of doing those vices why not be a solution and a partner of change in a society.YOUTH LEADERSHIPBy: Raffy WanasYouth Leadership is when we practice the teens exercising authority over themselves or others. Providing all students with leadership opportunities helps them grow into responsible adults. If we want students to work in partnership with adults, we must give them the opportunities to develop leadership skills by allowing them to manage time, work as a team, set goals, solve problems, facilitate meetings, defend positions, and make effective presentations. In other words, we must help them develop effective life skills. This lesson might use to lead usually in community organizing activities. We must know that leadership will not depend on our position. Even though you’re the Mayor, the Vice-Mayor, nor the President yet you can’t still have a good decision, you are not a leader. Leader is a responsible, have patience, determined, and have a right decision to command his group. And this group might in the form of organization, country and all the scope of his territory. Therefore, any individual can be a leader. In our country, we have the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) which we can enhance our skills in leading an organization. And we must respect what the rule of our government for a better leadership. As youth, we are the leaders!INTERVIEWWe  conducted an interview about the given topic, "YOUTH ELECTION VOLUNTEER MOBILIZATION" and there were 2 respondents, Ms. Jonalyn Opino and Mr. Joe Sugot. They were asked to answer the Questions: Why do most of the youth have no interest in voting? Why is voting important? And Why does the youth need to vote? According to Sir Sugot, Youth has no interest in voting because they are not informed and they lack information about the benefits and the purposes of voting while Ma'am. Opino says that the reason don't want to vote is because their place is far and so they can't go and don't have a flexible time. Mr. Sugot also said that it is important to vote because we are under democratic country does all citizen applicants should be involved or should be responsible while Ma'am Opino said that if you don't have your vote you’re just like a citizen without citizenship. Ma'am Opino said that the youth needs to vote in order to be recognized and because they have the right to vote but Sir Sugot says that it is a need to vote but we still have the choice to participate or not. One of my favorite sport is badminton but when I was at Benguet NHS Alno-Annex I've met some people there and they teach me how to play that sport and now that I’m here at King’s College of the Philippines, I'll train hard to become stronger and also to be a king of excellence.Once there was a beautiful Igorot girl was born in August 18, 1999 in the province of Mountain Province, in the municipal of Bauko, in the barangay of Monamon Norte, in the sitio of Bansa and that’s me named Mila Grace Espada in English sword. I’m the sixth child among the eight children of my parents. We are seven girls and one boy. In my hometown they call me either Mila or Grace. I finished my elementary in Bansa Elementary School; I took my high school at Bansa National High School and completed my Junior High (2015-2016). We belong in Assembly of God religion. And I’m now 17 year old.   My family’s occupation was gardening. We are not that rich and not that poor. When I was young, I like to dress white, work in the hospital and care sick people especially my mom because many times she’s getting sick. I want to be a nurse someday and that’s what I want to pursue in college. That’s what my mother wants me to be in the future also my aunt in USA and wishing that I will fulfill this. My favorite colors are blue, yellow, green, violet and white. I love dancing, playing volleyball and fun joining beauty pageant just like my one elder sister. Sometimes I’m avoiding cooking viand especially if there are lots of recipes and serve by a visitor.  I also like wearing dresses and clothes that are simple and not that expensive but elegant. Me and my mother are Christian but my father is not, wishing and praying that one day we all go together in the church.    Currently I’m living now in La Trinidad together with my two elder sister and I’m studying in Kings College of the Philippines inLa Trinidad, Benguet  for my Senior High. I don’t know why did I take STEM strand but I know God has a plan. And I’m  wishing that there are no distractions with my study. I have lots of crushes butI’m praying that I will not have a bf until I graduate. Coz I know….True love waits!!!. I’ve opened my world in July 10,2000 at Tubao, La Union. As I grow, I became a fool. So I started my studies at Natubleng Elementary School in Buguias until grade 5. Because my parents cannot sustain my education, I transferred to La Trinidad Central School and there, I graduated. Thirteen years, I rebelled from my parents. Gotta run and went to my aunt at Bayabas. Let say because of quitting education and not able to continue. After a week, I realized that without them nor any support, I can’t reach high. Igo back to my parents and still, continue my mind process at Benguet National Highschool. A great school where I start again and build myself more. Four years passed, Im already here. Standing at a private and foreign school of KCP. Continuing my-self to build up more. Thanks to God and I have friends that supports me until here and I hope that they’ll do the same until I finish. And I know that it’s not on my mind that I will waste it. I will pay them for what they’ve done to me. By the way, I’m Raffy and it means “Reaching High”, I’m reaching high for future and to see my-self as a great. My name is Ruel OrpillaJr in short “Rue” I was born at Benguet General Hospital 1999 July 31 but it changed on July 30 right now I’m already 17 years old. The name of my father is Ruel P. Orpilla Sr. and my mother is Mary annYasayOrpilla . I have brother and sister Rizzalyn and Renz. We live in Buyagan La Trinidad Benguet. My favorite color is black and white. The food that I really like is something rear and unique. I like adventures, action and horror movies. My both parents right now is working abroad. My sister is grade 7 student at CCDC while my brother is 2nd year college at KCP. I am second child in the family while my brother is first and my sister is last. When I was Elementary they always bully me by the color of my skin and my height. But I fight for my own and never asking help from others . I learn how to face my fair in my life and how to cope it. I have a dream that one day  I want to live in a place where they won’t judge me but judge me by the content of my character. I finish my Elementary at Buyagan elem. School and I finish my junior High at Benguet National High School.I like the people who have a motivated dream and high class basis. I want to know more about myself by improving my wisdom in life and explore more about life. Someday I will found myself standing at the stage to graduate and become a Police inspector that will punish all the criminals.YOUTH ELECTION VOLUNTEER MOBILIZATION This blog/project was made with the purpose of sharing and giving out the voice of the youth through posters and articles made using computer softwares or programs. Published: 21 May 2013
Broadening Campaigns and Strengthening Advocates
Community outreach programs and advocacy programs are constantly conducted in different key settings such as schools, communities, and workplaces. During these activities, members of the DDB staff serve as resource speakers orienting the participants on the country’s drug abuse problem, the ill effects of drug abuse and the legal consequences of being involved in illegal drugs activities.
Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD, Peer Groups Against Drugs)
As an effective peer-based preventive education and information program to counter the dangers and ill effects of drug abuse, the Board has institutionalized the BKD program in order to enlist the participation of more in and out-of school youth, and eventually organize them into a movement of young people who are catalysts within their peer groups in advocating a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
As of this year, there are 50, 277 BKD members from 251 chapters nationwide. The DDB has also launched the “Nationwide Search for the Best BKD Program”.
National Youth Congress on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control
This annual three-day live in Congress is designed to provide an open and comfortable atmosphere for fun, real work and innovative strategic planning to address the drug problem in the respective localities of the youth participants. A team of anti-drug advocates and facilitators provide participants the opportunity for positive discussions/dialogues, structured learning activities, workshops, and inputs. The team approach is employed throughout the congress to foster teamwork, learning, camaraderie and harmonious relationship of youth delegates.
In 2012, 195 participants from different organizations nationwide who attended the 20th Youth Congress held in Dagupan City, duly hosted by the Local Government Unit of Dagupan, were added to the 2,735 youth leaders who have participated in the training since 2002.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (DARE) is being enhanced to complement the implementation of NDEP. DARE offers a variety of activity-oriented techniques which are designed to encourage student-generated responses to problem-solving situations, specifically on drug abuse. This is being implemented in collaboration with the Philippine National Police.
Since 2010 to 2012, 156 DARE Police Officers have been trained and have already conducted classroom teaching among grades five and six pupils in various public elementary schools.
Kids Against Drugs Program
To bring the anti-drug advocacy to the children, the DDB participates in the annual celebration of the Children’s Month every October. The DDB conducts the Kids Against Drugs program, a primary prevention activity that aims to inculcate the skills of “Saying ‘No’” to children as a firm foundation for preventive education.
922 children have been reached-out to since this program’s implementation in 2006.
National Drug Education Program (NDEP)
This program which is currently implemented in elementary and secondary schools, in cooperation with DDB-member agency DepEd, entails five components – curriculum and instruction, co-curricular and ancillary services, teacher and staff development, parent education and community outreach, and research, evaluation and monitoring – which is comprehensive in nature and provides a holistic approach to the problem of drug abuse. It was designed to enable all sectors to work collaboratively, with the school system as the core, thereby, unifying all sectoral endeavors.
240 school administrators, guidance counselors, school-based health officers and teachers have attended several trainings held on NDEP facilitation and implementation nationwide.
Drug Abuse Prevention Program for the Transport Groups
This is a primary prevention activity involving the public transport groups designed to ensure the safety, well-being of the commuters and pedestrians by having drug-free transport personnel. Cooperating agencies are the DDB, DOLE, DOH, PDEA, LTFRB, LTO, and the Philippine Global Road Safety. It seeks to reduce the incidence of drug related vehicular accidents, promote public order and safety on the streets; and organize anti-drug patrol among drivers and other transport personnel.
Since its implementation in 2011, the DDB has been able to mobilize 288 members of the transport sector.
Nationwide Caravan of Youth Against Drugs
This new advocacy program, done in partnership with DDB-member agency National Youth Commission aims to intensify youth empowerment efforts to zero-in on drug abuse. Project coverage includes six (6) key cities of the country namely: Metro Manila, Davao, Cebu, Zamboanga, Naga, Cagayan De Oro, and Baguio City.
The caravan has enjoined at least 1,400 youth from various communities, organizations and academic institutions into the anti-drug abuse advocacy. It also aims to impart the ill-effects of substance abuse and dependence and to highlight best practices of youth groups and networks in the intensified campaigns and initiatives in combating drug dependence.
