Yes, it is believed that there could be other megas out there that just haven't been discovered! There were some discovered in Hoenn, after all. It could be that were not looking in the right place, or that these stones are so rare that none currently exist.

We know that the mega stones are somehow fundamental to the process, but we don't know WHY that is. By all means, they're just rocks. Not even radioactive! I believe the organization that was once Team Magma is studying them, but they haven't found anything yet. Hell, we don't even know how they're all somehow perfectly round.

The only Pokémon ever witnessed mega evolving without a stone were Rayquaza, who some argue isn't a true mega but rather a primal form, and Mewtwo, who's just generally an affront to both Arceus and science. Mewtwo would be the best bet research wise, and its been spotted in Kalos, but no ones managed to capture it. Personally, I think the poor things had enough testing done on it for a lifetime...

I'd like to remind everyone that the "mega evolution is insanely painful and you're torturing your Pokémon" thing was a single paper by a Galarian scientist living in Alola who had never even seen a keystone in his life.

Mega evolution IS a strenuous process and one that must be trained for. Just like professional battling, or even some normal evolutions. You wouldn't expect some random skinny guy to be able to deadlift his weight; why the hell would you expect a random Pokémon you just caught to be able to mega evolve hassle free, if at all?? Your Pokémon needs to know how to use its new powers. That's also part of why trust is so important to the process! Your Pokémon has to feel safe!

It's not even that HARD to bond with most Pokémon, you know. Some berries and a dream go a long way. I've seen people who most people would consider a fundamentally bad person safely mega evolve their Pokémon; I'm sure you can handle it if you actually try.

But, you know, "BAD SCARY DEATH TIMES" is a lot more interesting to the media, so they latched onto that one single paper. Putting in hard work and dedication doesn't really get clicks.

I guess flying on Pokémon is nice in the summer. The wind is really refreshing. Talonflame is way too warm though, so I normally end up renting a fly Pidgeotto. Once in a blue moon, Yveltal allows me a ride or two. It's really special.

You know, I really wish I could tell you. We can tell you a possible reason Mewtwo has two, but Charizard? No clue. Best bets are that;

- Many Pokémon have multiple Megas that simply haven't been found (Not... IMpossible?)

Or

- One of the Charizards was artifically created in ancient times (Extremely unlikely, but hey, they managed to build a death beam)

Or??

- Charizard is just built different?? (Unlikely, Charizard isn't a particularly strong Pokémon and has no interesting evolution paths or weird genetics)

I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't know enough about gigantamax to answer that. But from what I do know, while it is likely it could make things easier, its equally likely it could be too much strain for one Pokémon. It's one of those things you can't really know for sure until it happens.

Theoretically speaking, Gengar would be the safest bet to test; ghost types recover quick, and generally aren't as prone to fatigue as most other Pokémon. You know, on the account of being ghosts and everything. Gengar in particular are pretty hardy Pokémon. But, you know, ethics and all that.
