She wouldn’t prod----- lord knew, he’d never tell anyhow. “You boys and your roughhousin’.” The roll of her eyes is playful, dismissing concern from her face as she eased forward to inspect the wound. “Did you clean it properly?--- I’m sure I still have a bit of peroxide in the first aid kit out in my trunk.”

Maybe it hadn’t been the wisest thing to, all but, insist they went ice skating. Gliding along the ice, and any other sort of balance-oriented activity, had always come [pretty much] effortlessly to Melanie----- with years and years of gymnastics to thank for. A skill she’d eagerly passed onto her children, spending every Christmas down on the small pond at the edge of their property. It was easy to forget that not everyone was so graceful... 

Watching the other with a twinge of guilt, she extended her hand, gloved fingers lacing tightly around her date’s to offer some semblance of support. “----It’s easier if you bend forward a little bit.” It’d also lessen the blow of a tumble, should they topple over, but she’d chosen not to voice that oh-so-helpful tip. 

“We could stop and sit for a while, if you’d prefer.” Poor thing. Slowing, her smile is sheepish, free hand lifting to tuck an errant curl behind her ear. “It’s a little cold for me, anyhow.”

So the biggest alterations to Melanie:

Melanie’s husband, Ted, was murdered by Francis and only Francis. 

The original bit with Mel indirectly assisting him was a scrap from my very first concept for Melanie, who was a much more powerful and ruthless woman (and named Melinda) and it just feels… ooc.

Addensfield High School is getting shorted to “Addensfield School” and is a charter school, meaning that it was a private school that accepts government funds. Because it is the only school in the area, Addenfield residents receive free tuition. Although there are non-magical students, magic is incorporated into the core curriculum.

Switching about some family names: Melanie’s Mother’s name was Martha and her mother in-law is Adrienne. 

Harley Quinn ( @diiscordia) is her niece through her older sister, Tammy.

Watching the younger witch frolic, a laugh escaped Melanie;s lips. "There's more in the spring; they're not too fond of the cold." Following after her down the small path, she paused to pluck a weed free from the patch of daisies that bordered the west wall of her home.

             “OH wow!” An exclamation and she was off, bounding towards the greenery and the fluttery butterflies present there. She resisted the urge to swirl around, not wanting to seem a fool in front of the other witch. “Always this many? That’s amazing!”

She stifled a small gasp, involutarily wincing on his behalf as she watched the blade bite---tear into the soft flesh of his palm. There was something about blood, that’d never sat well with her. It was all she could do not to retch. “...And, what is ‘this’?” She prods, finally finding her voice; praying some semblance of color still remained in her face, as she dragged her gaze upward from his weeping cut to look at him.

“It is.” Melanie replied with a smile, a distinct note of, almost maternal, pride in her voice; proud her little town’s growth--- of her pushing for more greenery, more community, more and more, that went unrecognized, taken for granted, far too often for her preference. “I could give you a ride if you’d like. It’s not too far from here.” Snapping back, her grin broadened, warmer, open— compensating for the small lapse in conversation. “I’m Melanie, by the way.” Coppery waves bounce slightly with the puckish tilt of her head, hand extending.

She’s at least not feeling boxed-in by this conversation, which is a first for her, as always, and she’s realizing– she must not be familiar. Funny, and somewhat wonderful. She lets that quiet apprehension turn neutral, friendly, “Curiosity and a desire for a change of scenery.” She’s being vague, but honest. “It seemed kind of lovely so I elected to consider it. I think I’m making the right decision.”
