watch your step. jia&jongup
[` with her long hair released from its tie, jacket off and shoes switched to ones more comfortable, the only quality identifying jia as a student is the backpack hanging of her shoulder. here is one of the rare places she feels comfortable, although unlike the clubs where she's in control of the music pumping, she is a mere observer. it's a popular spot for many students her age, and many of them are her age though she talks with none. jia is much too involved in the music and impressive dancing of the dance crews that come out and strut their stuff. it's when someone familiar steps on stage that jia moves to the front, cheering along with the others]
[` his name is moon jongup; a dancer and fellow dj who jia met a short while ago. jia doesn't generally like people but jongup is pretty rad, plus his dance moves are kick-ass. the fact that he is brave enough to get on stage and willingly dance for a crowd of randoms (excluding the nutty fangirls who over-cheer jia's encouragement) is also admirable, in jia's opinion. when the performance she meets his gaze and sends him a thumbs up, expecting him to go wherever he usually goes. however, that isn't the case this time as he makes his way towards her]

. xx meng jia's personal playlist
i. prince charming // adam and the ants
prince charming ridicule is nothing to be scared of don't you ever, don't you ever stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome -- this song perfectly displays jia's mental encouragement for her onstage persona, alexis. she's no fool; aware that acting like her usual self while performing would only lead to her audience losing interest, and that would certainly be a disaster. therefore the moment she's on a stage, and her headphones are on or she's posing for a routine, she puts on her dandy and livens up the room with the magic of music.
ii. jeremy // pearl jam
clearly i remember pickin' on the boy seemed a harmless little fuck but we unleashed a lion gnashed his teeth -- during jia's schooling years she was an outcast; teased and bullied day after day because of her appearance and nationality. some of the first korean words she learnt are the ones she hears in her nightmares. moving onto high school made no difference, as if fate had placed a cloud over her to follow wherever she went. eventually, during her final year jia decided she was sick of the shit she'd get from the bullies. one day after school, when she was alone with the leader, she grabbed the closest stick and jabbed it into the bully's left eye. this song shows off her strength from that day, and describes her situation almost to a tee.
iii. dread in my heart // mother mother
there's a devil in my brain with a pitchfork and a flame, yeah, he likes to poke around and he likes to tell me things and whenever i begin to feel like i might be deranged i remember there's a little shitty devil in my brain, yeah. -- while jia does try her hardest to remain positive, or at least enough so that she isn't difficult to be around, some days are harder than others. the cloud hasn't lessened, only few days have sunlight, and the words she heard even from before moving to korea continue to haunt her. she really does have a shitty little devil in her brain; one which pokes and prods and cackles as it does.
iv. chandelier // sia
i'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist, like it doesn't exist i'm gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry i'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier -- not only is 'chandelier' one of jia's favorite songs, but it is also one that connects closely with her onstage life as alexis. in music she loses herself completely -- trusts it with her happiness and her heart. the nights she spends as a dj are wild ones, especially when the crows is large and excitedly intoxicated. nights like these are for everyone like jia to let it all go; responsibilities, anxieties, nightmares and reality.
v. believe in me // demi lovato
i don't wanna be afraid i wanna wake up feeling beautiful today and know that I'm okay cause everyone's perfect in unusual ways so you see, I just wanna believe in me -- jia strives for happiness. onstage she comes alive with the booming music, and her heart beats so loud she can't control her smile. but once those lights go out she's an empty shell, her craving for more music shown through the drumming of her knees and tapping of her fingers. jia wants to be happy offstage, and feel something similar to what she does onstage. after everything that has happened in her life, she hopes that she can smile with confidence and truly believe in herself.

— RISING STAR: ALEXIS ! —
❝ You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. ❞
— WHO IS SHE ? —
“ [` jia sends a nervous smile towards the camera before remembering her manners and bowing politely, her smile growing only slightly] Hello, my name is… Meng Jia. Yes, Meng Jia. [` she laughs softly in embarrassment of forgetting her own name before remembering the camera’s presence and continuing her introduction] I’m better known as Alexis. I attend Korean National University of Arts. I’m a DJ and enjoy dancing. I have a black belt in kung fu. [` jia pales as she realises how robotic and stupid she sounds, as if the viewers want more of a reason to be uninterested in someone like her. she winces a little before smiling once more into the camera. sadly enough, she knows that even is she spoke chinese she would be this nervous. say something from the heart. her brain wills her, oh so cheesily. jia takes a quiet breath and wills something from her heart] Honestly, I may seem like not much of a person. But what makes me who I am, is music. I’ve never loved anything more than music; never tried harder nor gave up so much of my life for anything else. Just music. To have someone sing and dance to the music I made, or the choreography I taught, would make my life complete. Yes… [` a blush paints her cheeks now, but jia pushes embarrassment aside as she hurriedly bows and lamely waves goodbye] Thank you for watching. ”
— WHAT DOES SHE WANT ? —
“ [` jia bites gently into her lower lip, staring off into the distance as she ponders over her aspiration. she wants to be many things, and even if none of them work out, it’d be okay as long as she was happy and could continue the things she loves] When I started dancing, I remember I really wanted to be a ballerina. Then a break dancer, and then a broadway star. [` she chuckles lightly, covering her mouth as she does] I think now, as a DJ, I’d love to just get my music out there. And I know I’m not good enough to become an idol. So, thinking sensibly… Maybe a producer? [` she nods in confirmation] Yes. A producer… And choreographer would suit me perfectly. ”
