When I grow up I want to be Jeff Minter

With that Jeff Minter collection being announced this week, this lead me to find out that Jeff Minter has a YouTube channel where he posts daily videos of him feeding biscuits to his donkeys, llamas and sheep every morning, and I just think that's pretty neat.

Yeah, he used to post those live on Twitter before he switched over to Mastodon. Sometimes I'd wake up at weird hours because of living with babies and I'd manage to catch some of it live. He really seems like he's figured something out about how to live life and all that.

Found the old Blue Sky in Games campaign site! Yep, it's still up!

This brought back memories of first encountering the Sonic silhouette Blue Sky in Games banner on, iirc, the FFVII Citadel forums. I think it was Empy Claw who used it first?

Anyway, this was back when the internet was filled with distinctive and wonderful fansites (I may have been responsible for a few, meself >_>), and places like UK Resistance were fun to browse on the regular. Weird little personal blogs, character shrines, over-engineered fansites with fifty billion little images to make them look slick in plain old HTML, GeoCities pages devoted to the most obscure stuff imaginable, ninjas.

Those were the days. Now? As UK Resistance might say, the internet has gone SHIT and DARK and RUBBISH and WE WANT IT BACK! Cardboard wikis, nightmarish social networks, garbage blogs riddled with SEO nonsense and ads. Even Google search sucks now.

So to this garbage situation, I say BLUE SKY ONLINE, and obviously I don't mean that new thing Jack Dorsey has going on.

Do you know where the term blue sky games originates from, in reference to Sega's former design aesthetic?

I first remember it being something the site UK Resistance used to describe that era of Sega's releases while also talking shit about how grim and gray modern games had become.

Pretty sure new users on Tumblr are already being force-fed the For You page as the default, rather than the Following tab. So it's already kinda crappy, but there's also already stuff in place that potentially keeps older users from getting flipped over to the garbage feed. Hopefully whatever Tumblr is thinking about changing doesn't fuck over existing users.
