aa fans love to complain about how much this or that case sucks, often citing it "being too long" or "dragging on" and don't get me wrong, i can be frustrated by things moving at a snail's pace, but i don't think i've ever gotten to the end of a case and thought "ugh i hated that." especially not because "it was too long." the moment-to-moment gameplay and writing are almost always enjoyable and snappy.
as much as i dont care for soj as a whole, i still had fun with the game, because ace attorney is a fun game series that makes me laugh and feel big feelings i have fun with the mechanics.
sometimes i wonder if ace attorney fans actually like playing the games or if they would prefer reading an in-depth summary.
.
#thats the point youre enjoying the game in the moment and its great#but with time you reflect on the whole experience analyze it and go 'yeah [the case] was bad' and irs ALSO okay#you can do both#its called having preferences#like yeah i liked playing aa2 in the moment and hell im still loving it ->#<- if im playing it while replaying pwaa trilogy in general#but i still wouldnt consciously start replaying it solo because i know its not worth it for me#the only one case that was physically exhausting for me in the moment ->#<- and the one id really like to skip is aai1-5 sorry it sucks ass#ace attorney

so i decided to make a word count of the ace attorney series because i'm a nerd and i love stats, and i wrote down some stuff i found out from it here. the word counts include all optional and penalty dialogue, so they're higher than in an actual playthrough. the numbers may not be entirely accurate, but they should be close to the actual number. all numbers except the entire series count is rounded to the nearest thousand
the entire series comes to about 3.1 million words
aa4 is the shortest game at 214k words, while aa6 is the longest at 371k
despite having less cases, aai2 (333k) and tgaa2 (337k) are both longer than aa5 (322k)
6-5 is the longest case at 118k words, and 1-1 is the shortest case at 6k words
tgaa2 has the highest mean number of words per case at 67k, while aa1 has the lowest mean at 45k (excluding plvspw, where the mean is 19k)
the mean number of words per case across the canon games is 57k
the mean number of words in a tutorial case is 24k, and 87k for a finale case (excluding 1-5 and plvspw)
the longest non-finale case, and the only one to be over 100k words, is dgs2-3 at 101k words. it is the fifth longest case overall
the five cases to be over 100k words are dgs2-3 as stated above, i1-5 at 103k, dgs1-5 and 3-5 at 110k (3-5 is just slightly longer), and 6-5
the longest tutorial case is i2-1 at 40k, and the shortest finale case is 1-4 at 51k, followed by 5-5 at 56k
the last three chapters of plvspw that make up the final trial adds up to 99k words, which is 4k longer than rfta
the shortest case with a separate trial and investigation segment is 1-2 at 31k words
the games in which the finale case isn't the longest case are aa1 (if you don't consider 1-5 to be a finale case), aa5, and tgaa2
i2-3 is shorter than i2-2 by about a thousand words. idk but this was very surprising for me
phoenix is the franchise's biggest yapper at 460k words, second place is edgeworth at 318k, third place is ryunosuke at 196k. apollo and the main judge are the only others to have more than 100k words (162k and 114k respectively)
buddy faith and hilda hertz have the lowest amount of words at exactly 1 each (according to my date anyway). go girl give us nothing
the award for the most amount of words by one person in one game goes to edgeworth in both investigations games (130k in aai2 and 126k in aai1)
45 characters have over 10k words across the entire series (take this with a pinch of salt because dialogue with the ??? tag wasn't counted)
the biggest gap in first and second place for number of words by character is in aai1, where edgeworth has 104k more words than franziska (22k)
the smallest gap is in aa5, where phoenix has 20k more words than athena (50k)
excluding the dlc case, apollo has more words than phoenix in aa6. what can i say he finally got that plot relevance
excluding the investigation games, aa1 and aa2 are the only games where the judge has more words than the assistant. this is probably because maya keeps getting arrested for murder
eustace only has 8k words, which is pretty embarrassing. if you're a major character with less than 10k words what are you doing
phoenix has 21k more words than layton in plvspw (52k compared to 32k when rounded), probably because the trial segments take forever, and iirc layton doesn't have internal dialogue. luke has more words than maya though (20k and 17k)

AITA: I killed my ex’s mom
I (33m) dated my ex (dead, f) before she was killed by the CEO of an information-gathering company while I was in a coma due to being poisoned. the woman who poisoned me got executed and I got better. my ex is part of a powerful spirit medium community and her aunt gave my ex’s cousin (9f) instructions on how to kill my ex’s sister (19f) but my ex’s mom intervened and channeled the spirit of the woman who poisoned me instead, so I stabbed her as revenge. now everyone in the courtroom, including my ex’s ghost, is mad at me but she literally looked like the woman who killed me and stopped me from being able to protect my ex??? so AITA??
edit 1: I woke up because I smelled coffee
edit 2: no, my ex didn’t ask me to do this
edit 3: STOP ASKINT ME ABOUT THE DL-6 INCODENT

Because I'm sick and tired of people assuming Vocaloid/CeVIO/SynthV "AI" is generative AI just because it has the word "AI" in it: a quick and easy explanation on what vocalsynth "AI" is and why you need to stop freaking out.

i went to "mad at me" island expecting to find people i knew, something i understood. but when my boat landed, standing upon the shore were a million empty husks wearing my own face. every foot of the island was occupied, and everywhere i went, they watched me with contempt. they never spoke, never breathed. they simply watched. no matter how i grovelled and begged, snarled and cursed, tried to hide or kicked and hit, they simply stared. the hatred in their gaze was inescapable, but i could hardly return it, knowing that their doomed existence was of my own creation. knowing that the hatred was nobody's but my own. in the end i just wept, unable to stand the relentless gaze of my own infinite glare.
the guy who i accidentally cut off in traffic last week was there also
