okok so i've been around the block with buying art dragons so even though i've never sold my own art this way, i do know a few things!

at least back in the day (no idea if it's still actively maintained), this was the pinglist i would use whenever reselling dragons with art

a lot of the time, though, when buying art dragons, i did so through hatcheries dedicated to it! the ones i have seen that are most successful are ones that give the dragons super fun and unique designs :oc and because they're hatcheries as well, a lot of the time, certain pairs would have certain themes to them! eg, plant inspired designs, dolls, etc–@steampunk-fr highkey one of my faves for this, i've bought sooo many fuckign hatchies from their art hatchery!! it's on hiatus atm but if you want a good example of what i mean then i super rec peeking through their hatchery :3

i've also seen it done as rescues where people snipe fodder they think is neat and give them a second chance, when normally they would just be exalted otherwise!

i think the selling point tends to vary from person to person, and at least for me, i want the dragon to be one i'll enjoy in my lair, but for the most point, the art is absolutely the selling point! it's the fun designs that inspire character thoughts for me that i usually go for :D i see it a lot like when artists will offer adoptables of character designs that people can buy, except these are based off of a dragon you can own!

the price point definitely varies wildly depending on the artist and their personal preferences; some find commissions, since there's less artistic freedom to design your own guy, to be more taxing, so they might be priced higher, while others might prefer just being given a guy to draw and whipping smthn out real quick instead of having to make the character decisions themselves! some might just price it all the same bc they don't really care! additionally, if the dragon has some added value on top of their art that's significant (eg; a colour/gene combo that's rare but sells crazy well, a pre-gened g1, a 6 digit dragon, a glitch dragon, etc), then they will likely sell for more regardless, since pricing tends to be the price of the dragon itself (as long as they wouldn't just be fodder otherwise) plus the price of the art!

and i will say, at least when i was more active in buying art dragons, there was absolutely a big market for it! people love cool designs, myself included :3

as for why lore dragons tend to sell worse: i'm pretty sure this is just because it's way easier to make art fit with the rest of your clan than fit new lore into your pre-existing lore. people that like lore tend to already have some sorta something happening in their own clan, so if a dragon's lore is written without that exact clan in mind, there's a good chance it's gonna need a lot of edits! so generally i think lore commissions are what people tend to prefer over buying lore dragons, if they are interested in getting lore written by others!

ok flightrising fans i need to hear opinions/reasonings/information about a world i don't step into often. Art/Lore Dragons. this is mostly relating to art dragons but i'm also curious if people do this with lore dragons.

i've been seeing more art dragons around, aka dragons who are bought and then drawn art specifically to increase selling price. here are my questions:

is this popular? as in do people buy these dragons a lot? are there pinglists/forum threads for these?

is there any particular choice in the dragon you are drawing? is it just pretty, is it rare colors, what about the dragon do you consider?

is the selling point do you believe more so the art or the dragon?

for pricing, do you do a lower cost than what you would charge for a commission, or the same cost? why?

do you also take commissions of flight rising dragons/gijinkas/equivalent of what you draw for an art dragon?

i'm just really curious because i don't tend to see them a lot but they're priced at amounts i would consider for a commission of an oc i already have, but not a random dragon. i don't think it's bad to do, but i am curious of how well it goes and what's people's reasoning to do it ^^ if you also do these with lore dragons, i'd love to hear answers! i just don't tend to see lore dragons go as high up in prices as i do for art dragons.

bessarion would absolutely be 👀 at absolutely any sort of Manipulation Of Life Forms (one of the other dragons working under him is experimenting with bringing ghosts back to life via dolls, for example!) so he would absolutely yap for ages and be all oho.. such clever tactics to gain test subjects....! they should absolutely never meet they would be terrible influences on each other <3

LOVE the idea of dragon friend asks so I thought I'd stop by with one of my progens if your dragons don't mind the company! :3 this is bessarion! he's a bit of a mad scientist, wants to find a way to live forever via machinery, has been doing lots of Very Ethical Experimentation on how much one can replace of their body before they are no longer Themselves anymore and if that holds promise for immortality

he's a bit stubborn and prideful, but loves chatting scientific theories with like-minded individuals, or even just those that can respect an interesting hypothesis! will probably disappear into the lab for days on end, ideal for your local introverts and whatnot !

TERRIBLE NEWS - Your dragon has attracted the attention of Nolan. EVEN MORE UNFORTUNATE NEWS - Nolan is very good at pretending to be normal if he thinks it'll get him valuable information. He would totally get chatty with Bessarion to talk hypotheses and about their Totally Very Ethical Experiments. And they'd have a great time as the conversation gets further and further into madness and both gradually reveal how messed up their respective interests are . And anyone overhearing this conversation would be like ⁉ but this isn't about them. This is about two dragons on their respective conquests for science, very ethical science, very normal science.
