i like to think about Courier having a lot of little things 'wrong' with their appearance (in a 'you are breaking the laws of physics' way). they don't cast a shadow properly - it'll be too defined, or missing entirely. their clothes and hair are completely still in a windstorm and rustling like there's a strong breeze indoors. no reflections in their eyes. their spurs don't jingle jangle if they're trying to be sneaky. voice is unmuffled even if their mouth is covered by their bandana. sand doesn't shift under their tread. etc.

Danny is a coward.

The girls (Nova, Echo, & Whisper) always took lead in fights. Nova with her fists, Echo with her guns, and Whisper... giving the gift of migraines if she's completely done enough. So, Danny (or Barclay for that manner) never really had to pick up a gun and protect himself. Why should he when the others clearly preferred fighting anyway?

When he is scared, he is hit with freeze. He shuts down. Someone points a gun at him? He doesn't try to run away. Sometimes he'll even faint if he's scared enough. He's great with coming up with plans, and having multiple back up plans should the first one fail. But soon as he's met with danger, all logic leaves and he's frozen where he stands.

Also, he is absolutely terrified of radroaches. The man has fainted from one jumping at his face. It's seriously a wonder how he's still alive.

are the dogs in fallout suppose to parallel the protag or??? in fo3 you find dogmeat lost and fighting for his life with his owner gone/dead, like lw with their dad, rex in fo;nv is pulled apart and put back together, like the courier. in fo4 sole finds dogmeat, purebred, waiting for you. ????? did todd do this on purpose or am i just losing it

The other day I was re-reading the wikis on the different tribal gangs in New Vegas and I decided to try designing a sort of religious effigy for the Jackal Gang. They’d be propped up in a few spots around their territory lines, and a much larger and more complex one would be burned on the night of the full moon to appease the God of the Mojave Wasteland.

i really like fallout because, unlike a lot of media that uses retrofuturism as just a cool aesthetic, fallout’s obsession with 1950s americana actually means something. it’s not just chrome fins and googie diners, it’s weaponized optimism. it’s that sickly-sweet propaganda sheen slathered over nuclear terror, where smiling mascots tell you to duck and cover while the government quietly preps for the end of the world. it’s about a country that believed so hard in its own greatness it signed its death warrant in cursive.

fallout takes that warped, post-war idealism, the “gee whiz!” charm of suburbia on lithium. and drags it through the dirt, showing us what happens after all the white picket fences melt into radioactive slag. in a world shaped by that specific brand of McCarthyist exceptionalism, the future isn’t flying cars and robot butlers, it’s a dinky holotape of your last moments before the bombs hit, looping forever. like vault 11, the one where the final recording plays after everyone’s already dead, revealing the whole “sacrifice one person every year or everyone dies” mandate was a lie. a loyalty test. a sick joke. and the vault passed, right before it failed, because paranoia and desperation had already eaten them alive.

that’s fallout. not just the end of the world, but the punchline that comes after the moral.

and honestly? that hits way harder than any sleek utopia. because fallout remembers: beneath all that pastel patriotism and canned laughter, something was always rotting.

for the original piece being 5 years old, it surprisingly holds up. but i still wanted to give it a shot now that my style has evolved a lot and i have a better understanding of skin variance and such ^_^
