Hovland farm, located in the foothills above the valley, was established in the Middle Ages. Like many farms in Norway, it was decimated by the Black Death in the 14th century. It never recovered and remained a small holding. Census and tax records indicate that it was occupied by one family for most of the 19th century, assisted by a handful of hired laborers. Hovland had only one husmannsplass, known as Bakken, occupied by a tenant family. However, Bakken had been essentially abandoned before the end of the century, as the remaining tenants appear to have emigrated to America.

I really want to start setting up and playing my new legacy but I’m still waiting on the computer! I’ve got the storyline planned out until the kids are born since, y’know it’s hard to write when you don’t know who your characters are
But let’s be real, I’ll still be taking forever redownloading mods and cc and playing in cas and buy build forever 🫥
#once I get the founders and starting lot built maybe I’ll do some teaser posts#but I don’t want to get too far ahead posting#preferably at least half a decade ahead in game by the time I start posting

Quick update!
Sorry for the unintended hiatus. Unfortunately, it’s due to a combination of being too busy last year & losing steam in the Lynch Legacy. I had a few more screenshots I didn’t post and an outline for the next generation, but I haven’t had the inspiration to play the Sims. One of the reasons I lost motivation is that I felt pulled to have more story-driven posts and a storyline I felt more connected to. I’ve been spinning a few ideas in my mind, and landed on one. I have the first generation outlined already, and a couple ideas for some of the second generation, depending how it plays out. I’ve gotten a few books for research (though it’s a culture I’ve researched in college and grew up in, so it’s more of a refresher) if anyone has any guesses! :)

My partner is currently building me a PC, so as soon as that gets up and running, I’ll be booting up the Sims, moving CC and mods over from my laptop, and playing with shaders. I’m really excited to start playing and telling a new story!

Hey all! Popping in for a quick update: I have had no time to play my legacy for months, I’ve taken screenshots for like 1 more post and that’s it, whoops. But it’s not abandoned, I’ve got the rest of the 70s planned and vague ideas about the 80s. With only two generations left before we reach the 2010s, I’m determined to see it through! And I’ve already got another legacy, more focused on storytelling, vaguely planned.
I may or may not participate in Simblreen, though only the second weekend if I do. It will be a build or buy/build item, if I do. Unfortunately, this was bad timing for the internet archive to go down, since that’s where the materials I get inspiration from are 😭

Bringing home Miguel Hernandez 1965
Joan found out she was expecting again very soon after the wedding. Despite Jeffrey's less than enthusiastic response to a new sibling, Joan and Estevan were excited to build a family together. Miguel Hernandez was born in 1965.

Mr. and Mrs. Estevan Hernandez 1964
Joan and Estevan dated for six months before he popped the question and she said yes. He was gone for work a few days at a time, but Joan didn't mind. He was down to earth, didn't ask much of her, and cared about Jeffrey. They had a small ceremony in Oasis Springs and held the reception at the community center.

Miss Copperdale Diner 1963
To keep food on the table and the lights on, Joan often worked dinner shifts at the local diner after all the kids were picked up from daycare. The owners were okay with Jeffrey sitting in one of the corner booths, quietly coloring or playing with a toy.
Customers were a mix of eclectic locals, tourists, and strangers passing through. One of those strangers was Estevan Hernandez, a trucker that came through Oasis Springs once or twice a month. He’d sit at the counter nursing a coffee until closing time, chatting with Joan.
A big thank you to @antiquatedplumbobs for the Miss Copperdale Diner lot!

Daycare at Joan's home 1961
With Jeffrey to take care of and no husband to bring home a paycheck, Joan started offering daycare at her home to the other moms in the neighborhood. It gave them the opportunity to work outside the home, as most people here were barely scraping by.

New home in Oasis Springs 1960
Once she was 18, Joan set out on her own with Jeffrey. Using her savings from her job, as well as a little help from her parents, she bought a one way bus ticket to Oasis Springs. No one would know her, there were certainly no hip Beatnik boys to fall for, and most importantly, it was cheap. Joan was able to afford a small trailer home.

58 Joan at work
Once her condition became more publicly known, Joan was expelled from school, despite her good grades. With a few months until her baby would be born, Joan took up a job at a local diner to build up her savings. Though her parents were supportive of her and would help her care for her baby, Joan didn't want to be a burden.

58 Joan & mom at home
They'd been dating for nearly a year when Joan discovered she was pregnant, despite she and Jake being careful. She told her parents first, who reassured her everything would be alright. When she told Jake, he clammed up and told her being a dad isn't his style, and made up an excuse to leave. Joan tried calling and writing him, but he never answered.

57 Young lovebirds
It wasn't long until Joan and Jake were going steady. They went out on dates as often as they could. Jake would take her to the art galleries and poetry readings, as well as the more mainstream teen spots.

56 Joan and Jake Feng
Being a teenager also meant Joan could stay up late for her parents' parties. It was at one of these parties she met Jake Feng. He was a year older than her and had run away to the city to escape his suburban life and meet real movers and shakers. He had dreams of changing the world through his art, and Joan was smitten.
