What You Need to Know About Laser Hair Removal?
Best Laser Hair Removal in New Jersey
What You Need to Know About Laser Hair Removal
According to the National Laser Institute, an impressive 1.1 million laser hair removal procedures were performed in 2016. Laser represents a non-invasive procedure that has a high feel-good factor, helping individuals to feel their sexiest, smoothest selves.
Laser hair removal can effectively and safely remove unwanted hair from areas on the face such as the upper lip, chin, the back, armpits, arms, legs, bikini area–virtually anywhere, except the eyelids and area around the eyes.
The basics: how does laser hair removal work?
Highly concentrated beams of light emitted by the laser are absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft, generating heat which damages the follicle and inhibits future hair growth while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Hair grows in three stages:
Anagen (the growing stage)
Catagen (the end of growth stage)
Telogen (the resting stage)
Because laser only affects actively growing hair follicles in the anagen phase, multiple treatments are usually needed.
There are four different kinds of laser: ruby, alexandrite, diode, and Nd:YAG. The laser professional administering your treatment will assess your skin tone, hair color, density and the coarseness of the hair you wish to treat, and determine the appropriate laser for you. In the past, individuals with lighter-toned skin and darker hair were the best candidates for laser, but nowadays, there is a safe and effective laser treatment for nearly everyone.
So how permanent is laser hair removal?
One very common misconception is that laser hair removal is permanent. It isn’t. What it can do, however, is reduce your unwanted body hair by up to 80%. One clinical study showed that 80% of patients who had undergone diode laser hair removal were satisfied, or very satisfied with their results.
Patients may require as few as two or as many as eight treatments to see optimal results. The location of the hair determines the interval between treatments–hair on the upper lip, for example, grows relatively quickly, so treatments may be repeated every four to eight weeks. Hair on the back is generally more slow growing, so treatment might be every three to four months. Factors such as the size of the area being treated, the density and the coarseness of the hair will also affect the number of treatments necessary.
The bottom line: laser offers permanent hair reduction. The only hair removal technique that guarantees permanent hair removal is electrolysis; but it has limitations in the quantity of hair it can remove. Laser hair removal costs $235 on average per treatment, so can require a significant financial outlay, particularly if you require numerous treatments. Having realistic expectations about what can feasibly be achieved is important.
What happens after laser hair removal?
Following laser, the hair does not fall out immediately. Usually, it takes a period of days or weeks before the hair begins to shed. Results can vary significantly between individuals. For some, the hair removal process may last several months, while for others it can last years. When the hair does re-grow, it’s usually finer and lighter, and therefore less noticeable. After the initial treatment, many patients choose to undergo regular maintenance treatments, once every six months or more.
Helpful tips if you’re thinking about laser hair removal:
Allow the hair you wish to remove to grow for at least six weeks before treatment. The laser only works when it can target the pigment in the growing hair shaft. No hair means ineffective treatment.
Find a board-certified physician, dermatologist or plastic surgeon who has undergone training in laser and possesses an excellent reputation and track record. Laser is safe, but mistakes can happen when inexperienced practitioners deliver laser.
Avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure can hinder the efficacy of the laser treatment by darkening your skin tone, and cause unwanted side effects and complications.

CoolSculpting Away Muffin Tops and Love Handles
You love your favorite pair of jeans.  When you bought them they fit you like a glove, flattering your sleek silhouette.  But the last time you tried to put them on, something awful happened.
Muffin top.
Is there any look less flattering?  There is it, billowing over the waist band, defying the zipper’s ability to ascend to its rightful (closed) position.
And with muffin top come love handles.  They’re part of the battle of the bulge and the war on lumps that prevent you from wearing your favorite jeans.  They mock you were they jiggle at your waist, their presence preventing you from feeling as hot and slinky as you know you are.
But CoolSculpting away muffin tops and love handles is here.  This therapy is taking the aesthetics market by storm, with its ability to freeze fat away.  But CoolSculpting isn’t a weight loss tool.  It’s a spot reduction treatment that targets area of fat which are more resistant to diet and exercise – like muffin tops and love handles.
Dense and Stubborn
Mid-section fat is dense and stubborn.  It tends to be more difficult to get rid of and to make matters worse, it sits on top of the muscle in that area, making it look even worse.
But it’s not just the way it looks that should worry you.  It’s the fact that mid-section fat is the most dangerous type of all and can lead to obesity-related illnesses like diabetes and heart disease.
Your mid-section isn’t just to admire in a pair of jeans, it’s the site of your internal organs and when there’s too much fat in this area, there are numerous health risks you may be more vulnerable to.
Spot Fat Reduction
As we noted above, CoolSculpting isn’t a weight loss tool.  It’s a spot fat-reduction technology which targets areas of fat which haven’t responded to exercise and sensible eating.
People with a BMI (Body Mass Index) over 30 are not candidates for the treatment for this reason.  People who are physically active and following a healthy lifestyle, but who struggle with stubborn areas like muffin tops and love handles are the best candidates for CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting Technology
The process used in CoolSculpting is called cryolipolysis.  Approved by the FDA in 2010, following notable popularity in other parts of the world, including Europe, the process freezes fat cells.
This kills the cell containing the fat.  Once the cell is dead, the body itself eliminates its contents, once and for all.  This takes place over several months, but most people tend to see results one month after treatment, as the process takes hold.
In truth, CoolSculpting just helps your body get rid of something it doesn’t need!
Muffin Tops and Love Handles – Goodbye!
If your muffin top or love handles are keeping you from slipping into that favorite pair of jeans, maybe it’s time to explore the new way to rid yourself of problem areas of fat that just won’t budge.
Contact Ethos Spa, Skin & Laser Center to explore this groundbreaking treatment!

How Laser Hair Removal Helps Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown hairs are a painful, inconvenient fact for millions of people.  When a hair is ingrown, it’s trapped under the skin’s surface, where an unattractive bump forms.  Ingrown hairs may also provoke infections, so they can be somewhat serious.
You’ll find ingrown hairs primarily on the underarms, legs, bikini line and face.  Why?  Because these are places men and women remove their hair by shaving.
Remedies for ingrown hairs abound, with people trying everything from special razors to exfoliators to rid themselves of ingrown hairs.
But there’s good news – laser hair removal.  This post shares how laser hair removal helps ingrown hairs.  If you’re one of the many people prone to them, read on!
Kill the Follicle
The laser used in laser hair removal (there are, in fact, several which deal with different skin/hair color combinations) targets pigment.  Bypassing the skin, the laser seeks out the pigment in the hair follicle and kills it.
A series of laser hair removal treatments is performed, with a reduction in follicles each time the laser passes over the treatment area.
Facial hair is a little more difficult, as it’s governed by hormones, but maintenance treatments will keep ingrown hairs from shaving at bay.
For other parts of the body, your laser hair removal technician will treat only those areas which are in the hair growth cycle, which is the best time to kill the follicle.
And the great news about laser hair removal treatment is that 75 – 90% of the follicles in the area treated will eventually die, weakening with each treatment.
Laser hair removal treatment also treats the discoloration caused by ingrown hairs, so it’s almost like getting a fresh start.
Freedom from Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown hairs can be beaten and laser hair removal is proven to be the most effective method to get it done.
If you’ve been wasting your time and money on treatments that get few results, if any, then it’s time to explore what laser hair removal can do for you.
When you come to Ethos Spa, Skin & Laser Center for a consultation about this therapy, you’ll sit down with a skilled, licensed technician who will counsel you as to the best type of laser for your hair/skin combination.  Then, you’ll discuss a treatment schedule, session spacing and the number of treatments.
Everyone’s hair growth is different.  Some is heavier.  Some grows more quickly.  So, everyone who comes to see us receives personalized attention to achieve the best possible laser hair removal results.

Why You Need Dermal Fillers not Botox
Why You Need Dermal Fillers, not Botox
For many of us, the aging face is associated with wrinkles. Smooth, crease-free skin is held up as the standard of youth, leading many to believe Botox offers a panacea to the ravages of aging.
In fact, research over the past decades has revealed that while the erasure or softening of wrinkles provided by Botox certainly helps preserve a youthful appearance, preserving facial volume and fullness is equally important. Plump skin with full cheeks is synonymous with youthful vigor, and provides a softness to the facial features that Botox alone cannot achieve.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers, or soft tissue fillers, are products that are used to plump skin and temporarily address certain signs of aging that arise due to a lack of volume or thinning of the face. Most dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid binds water molecules and improves the skin’s capacity to retain moisture, resulting in a plumper, smoother look. There are a range of dermal fillers available with specific FDA approved uses. The most popular fillers include Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero and Radiesse.
So how are dermal fillers different to Botox?
Botox is a neurotoxin that blocks nerve signals in the muscles where it is injected. With the nerves blocked, the targeted muscle is temporarily paralyzed. This inhibits the muscles from contracting or moving, meaning that skin above the paralyzed muscle will not crease or wrinkle either. Over time, Botox can help soften or even erase the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, which are formed as a result of muscle movement.
Dermal fillers, on the other hand, do what their name indicates: they fill in the skin. Fillers help to soften or reduce the appearance of static wrinkles, which result from a loss of the skin’s elasticity and collagen. Dermal fillers, also known as soft tissue fillers, can be injected beneath the skin to add volume and fullness to these thinning areas, smoothing out static wrinkles and fine lines. Botox and dermal fillers can be used in conjunction with each other to improve the appearance of both dynamic and static wrinkles on the face, rejuvenating the patient without significant recovery time.
What can dermal fillers do?
Dermal fillers can address an impressive range of aesthetic issues, including :
Plumping thinning lips
Adding volume to hollow areas on the face
Decreasing the appearance of crepey skin or wrinkles beneath the eyes
Softening the appearance of recessed scars, or acne-marked skin
Softening or filling in static wrinkles
Subtly lifting and augmenting hollow or sunken cheeks
Filling in nasolabial folds
Filling in marionette lines (the lines that run downwards from the corners of the mouth)
Augmenting the chin
Correcting mild asymmetry in the nose
The benefits of dermal fillers
Dermal fillers can subtly reinvigorate your appearance when administered by an experienced practitioner. When injected in conservative amounts, they provide natural looking results that allow for full facial expressiveness. What’s more, dermal fillers are safe, and ideal for those hoping to achieve  improvements to their facial appearance without invasive surgery.
Three areas that can achieve particularly good results from dermal fillers include:
The mid-face
Dermal fillers injected along the cheekbones can help to plump the cheeks, restoring fullness. This is turn can have the effect of subtly lifting the skin of the mid-face, and softening the appearance of nasolabial lines and jowls.
The lips
Dermal fillers can volumize lips that appear lined or pinched. This also helps to smooth fine lines around the mouth.
The nasolabial folds
For patients with mild nasolabial lines, dermal fillers such Juvederm or Restylane can help to soften their appearance. Most expert injectors usually emphasize softening the nasolabial folds, rather than completely erasing them, for the most natural results.

5 Genius Tips for Glowing Skin
As the temperature drops, your skin needs all the help it can get.
Your face is exposed to the elements and when it’s cold, it can take a beating.  The winter air can be brutal to the health of your skin.
You want to be one of those extraordinary creatures whose gorgeous skin just never quits.  Someone whose fresh visage inspires with its youthful glow.
So, we’ve put together these 5 genius tips for glowing skin to help you put a brave, glowing face on winter, weathering it like a champ.
1. Masks Really Work
Masks (products which you apply to your skin and then leave on for extended periods) really work.  And if you’re thinking that the masks you’d really like to try are too expensive, we have great news.
The cheaper ones can be just as good.
Look for anything that’s made with Dead Sea mud.  This substance cleans your pores and over time contributes to a healthy glow.  The Dead Sea is noted for its high salt and mineral content.  In fact, there’s so much good stuff in the Dead Sea that people go there to cure skin conditions like eczema.
2. Use the Toner
Many people skip this step in their regular skin care ritual but it’s important that you don’t.  Here’s why:  after cleansing, toner serves to help your skin retain moisture and that’s not all.  Well-hydrated skin is a better medium for other products like serum, moisturizer and treatment creams.
3. Take Your Vitamins
And no, we don’t mean vitamin supplements (although there are special vitamin formulations for the skin that many swear by).  We’re talking about two things – the first is applying a serum with a high concentration of Vitamin C.
You’ll find many cosmetics manufacturers highlighting the benefits of Vitamin C as a topical product to treat your skin to before applying moisturizer.  With a distinct brightening effect, the Vitamin C serums on the market now will also reduce the appearance of brown spots.
And food is a far more desirable source of nutritional Vitamin C than supplements.  Choose sources like citrus fruit, broccoli and green and red bell peppers.
4. Massage Your Face
Massaging your face encourages blood flow to the skin, as well as lymph.  Performing a daily facial massage is a great tool to put in your toolbox, promoting healthier, more vibrant skin that’s brighter and fresher and better muscle tone.
The best time to perform your daily facial massage is before you turn in at night, so you’ll be happy to hear that it’s also relaxing.
5. My Ethos Spa, Skin & Laser Center
At My Ethos, you’ll discover a world of leading-edge treatments for beautiful skin, so we’ve made it our last of 5 genius tips for glowing skin.
We’re a doctor-directed facility that offers our guests medically-informed aesthetics therapies in a spa-like setting.  Discover a suite of products and treatments which standing at the apex of modern skincare and unlock your skin’s most glowing potential.

How Does the Kybella Treatment for Double Chins Work?
Kybella is the new, non-invasive, FDA-approved way to melt submental (under the chin) fat.  People are excited about it, but as with anything new there are naysayers.
And chief among those naysayers is a plastic surgeon who started a debate about the treatment last November.  Plastic surgeons insist that liposuction is the best way to rid your body (including your double chin) of unwanted fat.
But that’s not the whole story about liposuction and the plastic surgeon in question did not tell the whole story about Kybella, either.
This post answers question raised by the controversy around this injectable and explains how Kybella treatment for double chins works.
Reduced Dosages
Kybella is new.  Because of that, not all practitioners are well-versed in dosages or managing the expectations of those undergoing the treatment.
It’s clear that many people wish Kybella were a magical silver bullet, but it requires more than one session to eliminate the double chin.  Much relies on proper dosage, administration and the recipient’s understanding of the kind of results in the offing.
Some doctors reduce dosages to prevent swelling (which is a natural part of the healing process) and the downtime associated with it.  The pity is that they’re not providing the service they’ve promised.
But more importantly, they’re not preparing recipients for what happens following Kybella treatments. To maintain their customer base, they’re essentially giving in to the “silver bullet” mythology and doing their patients a great disservice.
How It Works
The Kybella injectable formulation contains a substance which closely mimics a salt found in the stomach.  This salt helps the body digest dietary fat.
When injected into the chin, Kybella serves the same purpose – melting fat.  Fat cells are eliminated, removing any opportunity for them to re-establish.
And the bonus is that Kybella’s formulation also encourages your skin to retract and tighten, in the absence of the eliminated fat.
Results
With a skilled, licensed practitioner, Kybella results are astonishing.  That said, this non-invasive treatment usually takes between 3 and 5 sessions to render ideal results.
But here’s a key advantage – with Kybella, there are no post-operative side effects because it’s not an operation.  Liposuction is.
The risks patients undergoing liposuction run are everything from infection to indentations (which are permanent).  You’ll also have to wear a head bandage as you heal.  And the fat?  It can return.
Let’s Talk About Kybella
A lot of the controversy around Kybella has been generated within the medical community.  Private cosmetic medicine is a competitive business, but Kybella is about providing a less risky way to rid yourself of submental fat than with a surgical procedure.
Naturally, plastic surgeons would much rather you visit them for liposuction than come to Ethos Spa, Skin & Laser for Kybella treatment for double chins.
If you’re on the fence about Kybella, we hope this post has informed you.  We also encourage you to come talk to us about Kybella and whether you’re a candidate for it.
At Ethos, we’re dedicated to helping you look and feel your best.

Filling in the Facts: 4 Benefits of Facial Fillers
Our faces matter.  They make us recognizable as people.  They express our emotions and they’re our special sign of individuality.
So, faces fulfill an important role.  But as we age, they’re also subject to wear and tear.  We all age and wear and tear, while varying according to genetics and lifestyle, can show up as traits we’d rather not have.
Wrinkles are one of those traits deemed “undesirable”.  While we all get them, not all of us welcome them.  They get in the way of our careers, our self-esteem and our social lives.  With facial fillers getting rid of them is relatively simple – without surgery.
In this post, we’re filling in the facts:  4 benefits of facial fillers that make them a worthy way to address the visible signs of aging.
1. For More Than Wrinkles
While lines and wrinkles are the most common use for facial fillers, they can do a lot more.
Skillfully deployed fillers can improve the look of your face in areas where it’s lost volume over the years.
If you have facial scarring you’d like to correct, dermal fillers can greatly improve its appearance by evening the surface of the skin.
Fillers can re-define your jawline, give your lips a more voluptuous appearance or enhance your cheeks.  Extremely versatile, new uses for fillers are continually being proposed.
2. Trying It On
Facelifts, while still frequently performed, are becoming increasingly less popular with the advent of fillers.  Fillers aren’t permanent (lasting anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, depending on the product involved and the location in which it’s used).
A facelift is a surgical commitment.  Anesthesia, an incision and recovery time is involved.  In addition, there’s the risk of complications.  There’s none of that with facial fillers and even better, you can try on a look to see if you like it without committing to it forever.
3. Working with Your Skin
Facial fillers, while derived from a variety of ingredients, very often contain collagen.  Collagen is naturally produced by your skin, but as we age, we lose collagen production.
What’s even better than injecting extra collagen into areas of your face which need it?  That’s easy!  The fact that most fillers also stimulate collagen production to occur naturally.  This is the way facial fillers work with your skin to greatly improve its appearance.
4. Extraordinary Variety
The galaxy of facial fillers available grows continually.  As we’ve explained, the uses for these products are expanding and now include procedures being pioneered on the hands and even ones which can modify the appearance of the nose.
At My Ethos Spa, Skin & Laser Center, we’re excited about all these developments and look forward to telling you more.  For now, though, you should know that our extraordinary suite of services is home to the most advanced facial fillers currently available.
My Ethos is a doctor-directed medical spa which prides itself on delivering state-of-the-art treatments.  We don’t oversell our therapies.  We ensure that they’re right for you.

Whats the Youngest Age You Should Consider Getting Botox?
Over the past three decades, since the Botulinum toxin has been available for cosmetic use, the age of patients receiving Botox injections has become increasingly younger. While the norm was once women in their forties or older using Botox to smooth out frown lines or crows’ feet, nowadays, younger women are queuing to receive their Botox fix. According to 2017 statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 19% of Botox patients were in their twenties and thirties. What’s driving this trend?
There is a growing shift towards minimally invasive treatments performed on a regular basis to maintain youthful skin.
There is a range of Botox techniques now available to achieve different results: for example, Baby Botox or Micro Botox caters specifically to younger patients or first-timers who are looking for very subtle anti-aging effects.
Botox is now recognized as a preventative anti-aging measure, helping to inhibit the formation of wrinkles.
So when should you get Botox?
In short, it depends on the individual. A wide range of factors will affect how your skin starts manifesting the signs of age, with some patients in their early to mid-twenties presenting with wrinkles while others in their late thirties exhibit none.
Key factors that affect how an individual ages include:
Lifestyle: Smoking, sun exposure, working outdoors and stress can have a negative impact on the skin, causing it to age prematurely.
Genetics: If your mother or father developed frown lines or pronounced crows’ feet at a young age, then chances are that you are genetically predisposed to developing them too. Skin tone, texture, and color also influence the way your skin ages, with fairer, drier and more delicate skin tending to show wrinkles earlier than oily or tanned tones.
Facial expressiveness and habits: Squinting at the sun, frowning incessantly at a screen or creasing at the corners of your eyes when you laugh will, over time, etch wrinkles into your skin. Those with more expressive facial animation or strong facial muscles may see these lines appear at a younger age.
If your face is starting to show the signs of fine lines or wrinkles when it is at rest, this could be a sign that you could benefit from Botox as a preventative measure.
 Preventative Botox Benefits
Preventative Botox helps to “train the muscles so they no longer habitually create expressions such as brow furrows, for example. The earlier the muscles that cause dynamic, unwanted creases are targeted, the less likely an individual is to develop permanent, static lines in that place. If you have mild resting wrinkles, Botox can reverse them.
Preventative Botox can also help with facial symmetry and aging. Precise Botox injections can target and relax muscles that are over-contracting, allowing for opposing muscles to become stronger, so the face ages more harmoniously.
Another advantage of preventative Botox is that ideally, over time, you should require fewer units as your facial muscles become trained. The earlier you start, the more likely you are to atrophy the facial muscles that cause unwanted lines, so you won’t need to get Botox as frequently when you are older.
If you’re in your twenties or thirties and interested in preventative Botox, consider scheduling an appointment at a reputable clinic to discuss your options with an experienced injector.

CoolSculpting for Non-Invasive Fat Reduction
In a recent post, we’ve discussed CoolSculpting® as a weight loss strategy and why it’s not adapted to that purpose.  But for the target candidate (active, nutritionally aware and having a BMI under 30), CoolSculpting® is an excellent strategy.
Because this FDA-approved treatment targets areas which stubbornly retain fat which has resisted focused strategies of nutritious eating and regular exercise, CoolSculpting® sculpts you to your vision of the ideal line.  Sometimes, genetics can play a key role in making those problem areas stubborn and resistant to reform.
But the best thing about CoolSculpting® is that it’s non-invasive.  Without anesthetics, incisions, recovery time or bandaging, CoolSculpting® can provide the results people used to have to go through the fires of surgical hell to get.
The Process
Using a special tool, your technician treats the problem area with a cold temperature which serves to freeze the fat cells, killing them.  When cell death occurs, the contents of the fat cell have nowhere to go but out of your body, using its natural processes.
The temperature of the tool employed is carefully monitored.  Most guests feel very little during a session, save for a tugging sensation.  It’s like when you place is a cube of ice on your skin – the initial shock quickly recedes, as the skin is numbed.
Results
CoolSculpting®’s results reveal themselves over time. Immediately following your session, you’ll experience numbness which may last several weeks but this is temporary.  Some guests also have minor bruising.
But in 3 months, remarkable results reveal themselves, As the contents of your fat cells are flushed out, smoother, tauter skin is revealed and the sleeker, sculpted look you’ve been looking for is suddenly there.
Without the pain and recovery time of liposuction, the risk of infection from incisions or complications due to anesthesia, you get satisfying results which bring all your worthy efforts to fruition.  And a session takes only an hour.
Cost-effective, aesthetically-effective and painless, CoolSculpting® takes you the extra mile to get that pleasing line we all desire.  It’s the icing on the cake for active people like you.
Your Part of the Bargain
If you’ve taken the additional step of seeking out CoolSculpting® for non-invasive fat reduction, then you’ll be only too happy to do your part to get the most from your treatment.
One of the most important steps you can take to optimize CoolSculpting® results is to increase your water intake.  Because you’re eliminating the contents of those now-dead fat cells, additional water intake serves to push the process along, while improving the health of your skin to ensure it’s ready to spring back into position.
Keep up your exercise routine.  That sweat you’re working up is another way to help your lymphatic system flush out that fat.  And please – eat well.  Don’t think that because you’ve dealt with problem areas that it’s open season at the burger joint.  You developed your healthy eating habits for a good reason – you love yourself.
Keep loving yourself because you’re about to be looking your very best.

Get Rid of Unwanted Body Hair with Laser Hair Removal in New Jersey
Fall is here.  And if you’ve been wanting to get rid of unwanted body hair with laser hair removal in New Jersey, now’s your moment!
There’s no better time than the fall and winter to start a program of laser hair removal.  Why?  You’re all covered up, for one.  There’s no risk of sun exposure on the parts of your body you’ll most likely want treated and sun exposure is a big “no-no” for this hair removal tool.
It’s also cooler, which means less chance of irritation.  And best of all, you’ve got time!  You’ve got all the time in the world to undertake a thoroughgoing program of laser hair removal to get to smooth in plenty of time for next spring and summer, revealing a silky smooth you that’s ready for the sun, shorts and swimsuits of the season.
Laser Hair Removal – A Process
There are a lot of misunderstandings circulating about laser hair removal and much of those have to do with inaccurate information on the internet.
Not every cosmetic therapy clinic is interested in truth in advertising and that’s a shame, because we believe that reflects poorly on all of us.  At Ethos Spa, Skin & Laser Center, we believe in telling you nothing but the straight up truth.
That’s why we don’t oversell our therapies and why you tell you exactly what you need to know about them.  Laser hair removal, for example, is not a silver bullet.  It’s a process which kills the hair follicle with laser light which bypasses the skin.  Once the follicle is dealt with, the hair’s not growing back.
But your body grows hair at varying rates and for laser hair removal to work optimally, we need to attack it during the growth cycle.  This ensures a better result.  As we treat the areas you’re wanting to rid of unwanted hair, there may be follicles that resist treatment.  That may be a pigment problem, as laser hair removal seeks the pigment to identify and target the follicle.
But if you’re treating two different area, you may be working with different growth cycles.  It can take time to get it all done and touch ups are required for best results.
Not Permanent – Long-Term
Of all the hair removal strategies available on the market, laser hair removal is the safest and most effective.  It’s also long-term.
Which is not the same as permanent.  We’d love to tell you that’s the case.  But that wouldn’t be truthful.  Rather, we’ll tell you that as laser hair removal proceeds, hair becomes less and less likely to grow back and fewer touch ups are required.  You stay smooth for the long term, tossing your shavers, waxes and depilatory creams in the trash, where they belong.

Should You Try CoolSculpting to Lose Weight?
CoolSculpting it attracting a lot of interest from people who desire a more sculpted appearance.  It’s intended use is spot fat reduction, employing a technology which freezes fat cells, causing them to die and their contents to be eliminated by the body’s natural processes.
So, should you try CoolSculpting to lose weight?  Let’s look at the question and arrive at an honest answer.
The Ideal Candidate
The thing about CoolSculpting is that it’s purpose-built to address areas of the body which haven’t responded to strategies like improving your diet and exercising.  These are those annoying little wobbly bits that won’t budge.  No matter what you do, there they are – taunting your every effort to rid yourself of them.
The ideal candidate for CoolSculpting is someone intentionally nurturing a healthy lifestyle which includes nutritious and conscious eating habits and regular exercise to keep as fit as possible.
Does that describe you?
Do you have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or under?
If you answered no to these two important questions, then CoolSculpting isn’t the right therapy for you.
Not a Weight Loss Strategy
To put it quite bluntly, CoolSculpting is not a weight loss strategy.  It’s a finely-targeted spot reduction tool that addresses areas which defy your best efforts to get them under control.
CoolSculpting refines your line.  It doesn’t help you lose weight.
So, what are your options?  Let’s put this in the simplest terms possible.
If you’re interested in CoolSculpting, then your best bet is to start the process of weight loss now.  No.  That does not mean you run to get liposuction.  This invasive procedure is painful, surgical and requires downtime and bandaging.
Not fun, right?  No worries.  There’s a better way.
It’s Down to You
We’re not going to lie to you.  We believe in being completely transparent about our therapies and treatments here at Ethos Spa, Skin & Laser Center.
If your BMI is over 30, CoolSculpting can’t help but key lifestyle changes can.  That means opening yourself up to possibilities that you may have been contemplating but haven’t been able to reach for – until now.
Start with the little things.  Choose to eat breakfast every day and make it a good one, including items like whole grain bread, fruit and yogurt.  If you feel you need a little protein, eggs are a great option, especially if they’re boiled or scrambled.  Watch your portion sizes for other meals and if you must snack, choose healthy foods like raw vegetables, fruit and nuts (a great source of protein, fiber and fatty acids).
Get yourself moving.  Again, start small.  Challenge yourself to walk a little further every day.  Get off the bus sooner.  Use the stairs instead of the elevator or get off the elevator several floors before yours.
As you ramp up your weight loss program, you’ll notice significant changes in the way you feel.  And don’t forget to talk to your doctor.
Before you know it, you’ll only be bothered by a couple of areas CoolSculpting can address.  Contact us.

Fall Beauty Routine for a Healthy Glow
Your skin is the largest and most exposed organ in your body.  It’s a living system in a constant state of death and rebirth.  As old cells slough off, they’re replaced by new ones.  But there’s much you can be doing this fall to keep your skin looking its best.
As the seasons change, so does your skin.  But skin changes aren’t only seasonal.  Your skin responds to environmental conditions as they shift every day.  Leaving your home, it’s presented with a new environment.  Entering your workspace, another still.
So, your challenge is to help your skin meet its challenges to keep it glowing through the changing weather conditions and ready to greet the cold months of winter at its very best.
Here, we offer you this fall beauty routine for a healthy glow.
Take Your Time
Now that the season of outdoor living and the freedom to let it all hang out has ended, it’s time to take stock of how our skin has responded and to prepare it for the long, cold winter.
You’re indoors more.  You’re connecting less with friends, as you prepare to nest in your warm, cozy home.  That gives you a unique opportunity to assess your skin condition and adjust your beauty routine to accommodate the new, seasonal normal.
You may be drinking less water and turning to comfort foods.  Both these realities can have a serious effect on your skin.
Bathing Matters
During fall, we’re tempted to linger in a hot shower or bath, but high water temperatures can have an impact on the health of your skin.
Choose a slightly cooler temperature and the minute you’re out of the water, apply moisturizer to maintain the positive effect of moisture from your shower or bath.
Heavy Clothing
Now that we’re moving into fall wardrobes, it’s important to remember that clothing close to your face can retain oils and other undesirable elements which can cause breakouts.  That’s why it’s important to protect your skin by washing the heavy garments which may come in contact with your face and neck after each wash.  Think about turtle and cowl necks and scarves, especially.
The Sun Is Still There
Just because it’s cloudy, it doesn’t mean to say the sun and its damaging UV rays aren’t still there.  That’s why it’s important to maintain the summer habit of applying a 30 SPF moisturizer or sunscreen every day, at the end of your normal cleansing, exfoliation and treatment regime.
Water, Water, Water
Remember – if you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated.  So, don’t let it happen.  Keep up your water intake to help your skin keep glowing from the inside out.  There is no facet of a beauty routine more important that this simple habit.
Moisture
Interior heating systems can do a number on your skin, so now that you’ll be spending all that time indoors, confront the drying aspects of this fall/winter reality by upping skincare habits like moisture masks and deep moisturizing, as you bathe.
Need support?  Contact us and let’s talk about fall skin care.

How to Prepare for a Coolsculpting Session
Coolsculpting® is a non-surgical answer to spot fat reduction.  If you’re reading this, you already know that, but you want to know more about what’s required from you before going to your first session.
This blog covers how to prepare for a Coolsculpting® session.  While there’s not that much you need to do, there are several key steps to take to ensure your results are all that you envision.
Let’s find out what you need to do before visiting Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Centre for your first Coolsculpting® session.
Medications
Unless medically necessary, you shouldn’t be taking any anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen) prior to your visit.  Also, be aware that herbal preparations containing St. John’s Wort or fish oil should be avoided, as well as aspirin, as these have the affect of thinning the blood.
If you’re taking anti-clotting agents following a surgical procedure, you should wait until you’ve completed your prescription.
Medications like these can exacerbate potential bruising from the treatment.
What Would You Like to Know?
Many of our guests at Ethos Spa have a lot of questions about their therapy.  Be sure to take the time to jot down any questions which may occur to you before coming in for treatment.
Educating yourself about Coolsculpting® is part of going into the treatment fully apprised of what to expect.  As you research its benefits, keep in mind that you’ll be able to ask your technician questions at the start of your session, so come prepared.
At Ethos Spa, we know that informed guests are empowered.  They know what to expect and they understand how their treatment works.  That makes our jobs here so much easier.
Take Care of Yourself
Coolsculpting® kills fat cells by freezing them.  When the cell membrane is destroyed by the cooling technology used, fat is released into the body and eliminated.
That said, Coolsculpting® is not a weight loss strategy.  It’s a spot reduction therapy which targets stubborn areas which haven’t responded to nutritious eating and exercise.  If you feel you need to lose a little weight, doing it before your Coolsculpting® journey begins is the best way forward.
This revolutionary spot reduction treatment is most effective on people with active lifestyles and a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30 or under.  Your results will be so much more satisfying if your body is properly prepared.
Bring a Positive Attitude
At Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center, we know that the better you feel abut the treatment going into it, the happier you’re going to be with the results.
That means not only managing your expectations but understanding that you’re giving yourself a very special gift.  Attitude is everything, so bring your best to your Coolsculpting® session.
Ethos Spa, Skin and Center
Ethos Spa is an aesthetics facility governed by a Board of medical professionals.  We bring you the highest level of medical cosmetic treatments available, coupled with exacting standards informed by stringent medical ethics.
We look forwarding to joining you on your Coolsculpting® journey!

When to Get Preventative Botox
Botox is the granddaddy of all cosmetic injectables.  It works by limiting the mobility of facial muscles to soften and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
But these days, people are thinking ahead.  They’re taking the future by the face (literally) and using Botox as a preventative measure.
If you can stop them from getting a toe hold, then why not?
This post is about when to get preventative Botox to stop time in its tracks, allowing you to put your best face forward.
It’s a “Thing”
Preventative Botox is a growing trend among Millennials.  If there’s one thing which may said of this generation, it’s that they’re not afraid to push the boundaries.
Do a google search on preventative Botox and you’ll see it featured in some of the most notable beauty and lifestyle publications around.
People in this cohort are, due to the extremely visual culture they’ve grown up in, acutely image-conscious and career-oriented.  They know that the way they look is one of the drivers of their success, so they consider preventative Botox to be a grooming tool.
So, preventative Botox is even more than a trend – it’s a “thing”.  Since 2010, preventative Botox treatments have risen by 28% among people between the ages of 20 and 29.
So, When?
At Ethos, we see guests in their mid-20s through mid-30s for this type of Botox treatment.  While making the decision to proceed with treatment depends on the guest, their expectations and the condition of their skin, we believe that starting with Botox at too early an age is ill-advised.  Here’s why.
Starting with Botox for prevention too soon can exacerbate the natural weakening of your facial muscles.  Repeated treatments at an early age have the effect of flattening and weakening muscles, which can cause your skin to appear loose in treated areas.
There’s also the danger of your face compensating for the limited mobility of that one area by engaging other areas of the face to form expressions.
Think about it:  Botox limits the mobility of muscles it’s injected into.  If those muscles aren’t moving as much, they’ll shrink (atrophy) and adjacent muscles will pick up the slack.  That means more Botox to address lines in the skin over the muscles implicated.
Choose a Trusted Provider
If you’re considering preventative Botox as a way to head aging off at the pass, proceed with caution.  Choose a trusted provider, like Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center.
Because we’re directed by a Board of medical professionals, all we do here is governed by stringent medical standards which preclude us recommending treatments which may not be right for you.
Because we’re well acquainted with what’s required for preventative Botox, we understand dosages and placement that get the results you want.  We won’t recommend the treatment if we think you’re jumping the gun.
When to get preventative Botox is a decision you should make in consultation with a skilled technician at Ethos Spa.
Contact us to schedule a consultation about preventative Botox.  We’re professionals you can trust.

Kybella Melt Your Double Chin without Surgery
Double chins aren’t always due to having a few extra pounds on you.  Sometimes, they’re just the evidence of your family tree.  Genetics are very often the reason that some people have a stubborn pocket of fat under their chins.
While for many it’s no big deal, you’re reading this because you want to get rid of that double chin and you’ve heard that Kybella can help you do it – without surgery.
Kybella – melt your double chin without surgery.  It’s not science fiction. It’s very real and we’re going to tell you about this amazing product in this post.
A Natural Bodily Process
Aesthetics treatments have dramatically changed.  Increasingly, they rely on mimicking the natural processes of the body to achieve dramatic results.
This is certainly true of Kybella.  Employing a synthesized formula identical to deoxycholic acid, Kybella destroys the fat cells that grace you with a double chin.
Deoxycholic acid is a chemical which occurs naturally in the body.  Its role is to assist the body in absorbing fat.  Kybella simulates this process, targeting it at the fat under your chin.
Non-Invasive Results
Until now, only liposuction could address the double chin.  Liposuction is an invasive procedure which involves anesthesia, an incision and the use of a canula.  The canula sweeps fat out by being drawing across the treatment area repeatedly, under the skin.
This process can cause excessive swelling, bruising and bleeding and requires a lengthy recovery period, during which the patient is bandaged.
But that’s no longer necessary to get rid of that double chin.  With FDA-approved Kybella, you get non-invasive results.  No incisions.  No anesthesia.  No being swathed in bandages as you heal.
Kybella is an injectable, so you go back to doing whatever you please after treatment, while it does its work and your double chin melts into the past.
Goodbye Double Chin, with Kybella
There’s nothing wrong with the way you look, unless you think there is.  Sometimes, it’s the little things that make you feel uncomfortable about your appearance – little things like double chins.  But with Kybella, you can kiss it goodbye and face the world with the sharp profile you’ve always desired.
Following a Kybella treatment, your body naturally eliminates the fat stored in the cells that Kybella has addressed.  With the fat cells in the treatment area eliminated, the fat has nowhere to go but out of your body.
Within 4 to 6 weeks, you’ll see incredible results.  While results aren’t immediate, they’re permanent.  You’ll never see the profile that bothered you in the past again.
Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center
Ethos Spa is a revolution in modern aesthetics.  We offer only the most advanced treatments to our guests, in a facility directed by a Board of medical professionals.
When you’re our guest, you’ll be treated to a relaxing spa experience that’s governed by stringent medical ethics.  You’re in good hands at Ethos Spa, where we’ll never recommend a procedure that isn’t right for you.
Ready to kiss your double chin goodbye, with Kybella?  Contact us.

4 Back-to-School Wellness Tips for Mom
Mothers are “it”.  They’re the pillars of the family.  That’s especially true of summer, when kids are home from school.  But it’s also true of the back-to-school season – a furious flurry of activity.
Now that the kids have their supplies in their backpacks and they’ve returned to the reality of learning, achieving and growing to the full stature of adults, it’s time for you, mom.
This is your moment.
Now’s the time to take good care of yourself, with these 4 back-to-school wellness tips for mom.  You earn your wellbeing every day, so we’re honored to support you.
1. It’s Not Your Homework
Homework helps your kids internalize what they’re learning at school.  Helping them out with the tough stuff is admirable but try to remember that it’s their homework – not yours.
Let your kids experience struggle with the subjects they’re working on.  Struggle is part of life.  While the temptation to put on your “Supermom” cape and leap tall piles of homework may be overwhelming, allowing them to experience the joy of discovery through struggle is a much better strategy in the long run.
Allow your children the satisfaction of achieving their learning objectives independently.  They’ll thank you later.
2. Be Their Model
Sending the kids back to school needn’t be a nerve-wracking experience.  Kids are reluctant to leave summer behind and that’s understandable.  Summer is a season of freedom from responsibility and enjoyment.
But school isn’t the enemy.  School should be framed as a joyful experience and an opportunity to grow.  Be the positive role model your kids need, reminding them that going back to school means learning new things, seizing on new opportunities and reconnecting with friends they may not have seen all summer.
Education is a gift, so share with your kids the experiences you had in school that shaped and formed you.  Remind them of the overwhelmingly positive experience education is.
3. Community Lightens the Load
We all know it takes a village to raise a child, so why are some moms so reluctant to live out that reality?  The “Supermom” cape sometimes seduces moms into believing they can do it all.  But that’s what community is for – to lighten the load.
Connect with other moms to create a carpool to get the kids to school.  Your neighbors will be just as grateful as you’ll be to have this aspect of back-to-school responsibilities made that much lighter, through sharing.
And don’t forget your spouse.  Divvy up the lunchmaking, the school meetings and all the other stuff that demands attention.
4. Take Time for You
Take time for yourself.  It’s often the case that mothers put everyone else before themselves.  But if your personal resources are maxed out, how can you be there for your family?
Find the time you need for you. Whether that means swimming at the local pool, going for a long walk, or scheduling a treatment at Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center, make sure you take that time.  You’re indispensable and you deserve it.
Mom time needed?  Contact us.

How to Update Your Skincare Regimen for Fall
As the leaves begin to change and the air becomes crisp, it’s time to start thinking about how to update your skincare regimen for fall.
Your skin’s needs change with the seasons.  Moving from summer’s heat, humidity and sun exposure to fall’s freshness demands giving your current skincare routine a think.  With different weather conditions come different imperatives for caring for your skin to keep it looking its best.
Let’s talk about some strategies for maintaining your skin as the seasons change.
Switch Up Your Moisturizer
That crisp air we were just talking about is also dry.  That means changing to a moisturizer which reflects this shift in humidity.
When the air is dry, your skin can follow suit, so protecting it with a rich moisturizing agent is crucial.  Gel-based products are great for this, as they won’t clog pores, while delivering a hydrating punch.
If you’ve been a bit over zealous with your sun exposure, it may be a good idea to repair some of the damage with a product to address hyperpigmentation, also.
Exfoliation
While it may seem counter intuitive to scrub your skin, that’s not the case.  Gentle exfoliation has the effect of brightening your skin but it also prepares it for treatment serums and moisturizing by clearing away dead skin cells, oil and ambient dirt.
Exfoliating twice a week will keep your skin looking its best, especially if you follow up with a gentle cleanser.
Don’t Forget Your Lips!
Drier air means drier skin but it also means drier lips.  Using a good lip balm in the fall and winter is a great habit to get into for this reason.
Choose a product with a lanoline base to keep lips silky smooth.  But did you know that exfoliating your lips can also help?  Use a soft bristle toothbrush prior to applying lip balm to exfoliate dead skin.
PRO-TIP:  Wearing lipstick is an edge that women have over men in the realm of keeping lifts soft and supple and it’s also a highly effective sunblock.
Hydration
In the cold months, people tend to forget how important water intake is for their skin.  Just because the seasons have changed doesn’t mean to say your body doesn’t need water.
Don’t scrimp on your water consumption.  Continue drinking at least 8 large glasses of this wonderful stuff every day.  Not only will your skin glow, you’ll be doing your internal organs, skeletal system and weight regulation a tremendous favor.
Hands and Body
Just because you’ve busted out the leggings and woolly scarves to cover the better part of your body, you can’t forget to treat your hands and body to fall skincare.
Even if you’re wearing more clothes, the dry air can still affect your skin.  Following every bath or shower, be sure to apply a rich body lotion while your skin is still damp.  This serves to hold in moisture and protect your skin from dryness and cold.
