Something I've noticed and found interesting is that we've seen Valentino utilizes smoke as part of his power, both in incapacitating others and manipulation into constructs that act like solid matter.

It also only appears to be red smoke he has control over, which seems to be tainted with his venom and thus is why he can control it vs just regular smoke. (I know Val supplies drugs as well, but who's to say said drugs don't have his venom in it since we already know Velvette's love potions use his venom as an ingredient. Plus, you can see the cigarette smoke is grey as it burns, but is red after he puffs it into Angel's face. :/).

Now, the reason why I think he uses smoke is more than just a preference for smoking, but because it's just another contrast/connection/way for him to copy Ozzie.

As many know, Valentino's look is heavily based off of Ozzie's disguised form as seen above with it initially being because a Sinner's form is based off what sin they committed in life and how they died, so Valentino being a pimp plays into the sin of Lust despite us seeing him not actually embodying the same values at Ozzie does such as consent and actual pleasure being key vs pure exploitation; obviously, Valentino takes his mimicry further by wearing that large hat and adding heart-motifs to everything.

As we've seen though with Ozzie:

Fire is literally his core power/essence and comes as easily as breathing to summon it thanks to him being a Deadly Sin with immense abilities and unfathomable magic.

In Valentino's case however:

Valentino is dependent on the cigarette for smoke. He can't generate this aspect of his power on his own and smoke in it of itself is a byproduct of fire after all. ;) Also, while fire can undoubtedly be destructive, Ozzie's fire is seen to be used for light and warmth vs actual harm (unless you're Mammon ;) ), while Valentino's smoke is for delivering control and pain; this perhaps is liken to the dangers posed by carbon monoxide/carbon dioxide/VOCs when something burns compared to the fire itself that is providing necessary heat and light.

So, if anything, I think this once more proves when it comes to comparing the two, only one is the original powerhouse and the other is a poor imitator. ;)
