Ugh
So attempting assessments after not being on skates for about a month was not a good idea, especially at my current level of dehydration ._. I know that there is no way in hell that I passed, because I fudged up even the small things that I had 100% down last month.
....can't believe I only got 17/5 ._.

In other news
I feel sick to my stomach, I am so anxious for tonight. I have assessments tonight, I didn't take my first chance to access because I was too anxious about it, but I realize now that the worse thing that can happen is that I just keep doing what I'm doing now.
It's alright to fail, I just need to learn to get back up after.

Fitness
So I'm not the smallest of girls, I'm pretty sure I'd actually be labelled obese by doctor, though I don't look very large. It hasn't always been this way though, I was actually fairly skinny until my later years of HS and post-HS.
One of the reasons I started derby was actually to become active and lose weight, however with how spread out our practices are (4 a month), and with some of them being at the same time as my classes, I really haven't become all that more active, so each derby practice feels like death to me. The practices get harder, but my body isn't building the muscle to deal with it. I'm overweight, I have had asthma since birth, my biggest obstacle in derby has been my own body and I can't even begin to express how that knowing that has affected me mentally.
I decided to kick my fitness in gear, but in order to do that I had to figure out how to get my body into a healthy-zone. So I decided to give Derbalife (herbalife centered toward Derby players) and I spoke to my fitness coach yesterday about my eating habits. I grew up eating one meal a day, sometimes less than that. I never had the money for school lunches growing up, or breakfast, and my parent was too proud to sign up for free lunch. By the time I got to high school I would schedule out my lunch to take another class because I just couldn't sit in the cafeteria with everyone anymore. My body has been in starvation mode for as long as it can remember, to the point that it is eating at it's own muscles to get protein. I'm not healthy on a normal level, let alone even dreaming of being on an athletic level. I feel exhausted all the time, but I resigned myself to the idea that that's just how life is when you get older.
I am taking my fitness into my own hands now.
Some major things I will be changing:
- going from 8-16oz of water ever 2-3 DAYS to 120oz PER DAY!
- going from eating well under 1000 calories a day to about 1600 calories per day, more on practice days.
- running. every day. There is a gym down the street that I have a membership to, I need to use it.
It's such a strange concept that I need to eat MORE in order to get into a healthier shape, and I understand the reasoning behind it, but my mind is so afraid of eating so much more (especially several servings of meat a day). I'm afraid of it making me sick. This is a big step for me, and I'm so so so glad that my partner is here with me to see me through it and support me.

Some pictures that one of the new girls took at the second bout from our Season Opener yesterday!
Calamity Janes (Maine) vs. the Queen City Cherry Bombs (NH)
It was an awesome game and considering most of our girls were playing/jamming in the bought before that (Nightmares vs. Troopers) they really put there all out there!

If your core dosesn’t improve after doing this workout say 3 times a week, then your doing it wrong. This looks painful but worth it

as much as we groan about practice, we all know that it’s amazing for us, as exercise, for bonding, and to make us better derby players.
remember, the next time you groan about practice, somewhere there is an injured derby girl that wished she could go to practice… and even retired derby girls that would give anything to have one last season. cherish it while you can!
